I've got a gig coming up in a little while and am just considering a track selection/flow.
Now whilst I'm confident personally, it gave me an idea to start a thread as to whether what I'm thinking in my head will be palatable to others.
Bear in mind it is a warm up for a techno type gig.
Anyway here's my thoughts as to artists, I have a few specific tracks in mind, but as I'm at work and can't be stuffed with the discogs search, I'll just put the artists and maybe an album I've got in mind to snatch the track from.
As stated, is this thread dumb...probably.
Here goes.

Aphex Twin: 1 or 2 maybe tracks from SAW2
Surgeon - Another Body ambient track off "screw the roses"
Autechre - Garbage ep
Autechre - tracks from chiastic slide and/or tri repetae
Astrobtnia - tracks from either Part 1 or 3
(Maybe here or later on) BoC - Sunshine Recorder...prolly later
Delikatessen Records - Track from Metamatics, track from Deru
Funckarma - tracks to be decided upon
Gridlock - tracks from either Envane or Formless
Vromb - Either Rayons or Episodes....possibly Jeaux de Terre, but not really where I want to go
Silk Saw - Tracks from 4th Dividers
Scorn - Tracks from Plan B
DJ Krush - prolly tracks from Stepping Stones/Instrumentals
Maybe BoC here?
Analord - prolly one of the tracks from #11...not sure
Jamie Lidell / Luke Vibert Remix
Tracks from Kerrier District
Lusine - Various tracks from various albums.

This is by no means a track by track run down as stated, but just a brief outline of my thought process.
I figure the Lusine sounds on a few of the Ghostly releases should be tough enough for the next techno guy to be able to work with so end with those.
Thoughts?
Also what do others do in preparation for there gigs? do they prepare or fly by the seat of the pants as it were? Curious...

doesn't seem that dumb to me... thread title edited accordingly... ;)

looks good though. having a vague idea of what you want to do is probably helpful, but i spose to a degree you've also gotta freestyle it on the spot, see what the crowd's digging and what you're digging. but yeah, as far as i can see, it looks pretty dope.

Thanks mang. It's not that I need help as such to put together, just wanted to see if anyone else would dig that kind of sound mesh. I did a preliminary recording this arvo and it was 30 or so seconds shy of 2 hours, with some minor track adjustments/rearrages, which is my slot time.

As I'm first up, I'm not expecting there to be heaps of people there, hence I guess I can pretty much play what I like for the first hour, and make it a bit more techy towards the end.

That thread title makes me look like a loser now! :emo: :P

yeah i reckon that setlist kinda thang you've got there looks pretty good, but yeah i'd say just get a rough idea then freestyle it

the first time i played out i had this set planned exactly and yeah it was ok, but i've found i play heaps better when i just try and see what people are digging and not worry tooo much about pre-planning. i'll have some stuff that i wanna play picked out beforehand though

I know exactly what you guys mean. This isn't my first gig or anything, but this is the first time I'm playing to a more "educated" crowd, thus I want it to flow properly.
Last few gigs have all been seat of the pants, go with the flow kinda stuff, which is fine apparently, at the time, but listening back (to my ears at least) it's always a case of "that track should've gone a bit longer" or "those tracks should've been in the opposite order" or whatever.
Basically I don;t want to look like an asshat infront of my peers is all ;D

Here's the draft if anyone's interested

it's pretty large and there's a couple of mistakes such as a needle skipping, and a toggle fucking up on the xfade, the most annoying being right at the end when g/f started talking at me.
Please enjoy anyway. Despite foibles. Now to work on a few of those transitions. :D
