View Full Version : AIR - Pocket Symphony
Fuck this is a good album. Very very very different to their previous offerings. It is about as close to chillelectroniclassical as you will get.
Very much a red wine kind of album, but it is niiice. Just dont be expecting Sexy Boy.

sounds promising ... release date ?
their site says it's exclusive online release was feb 19
i like what i heard from the clips.
It has been released online before CD format.
Check out BigPond Music, Sanity Online or JB HiFi if you don’t like iTunes.

I think release date for hard format is today.
I gave this a few more spins over the weekend and it just got better. It definitely won’t be everyone’s cup of tea and Air will probably alienate some fans as it is quiet a move away from their previous stuff. But I like it :)
i've noticed this one but haven't heard it yet, and haven't actually been all that keen. i really enjoy some of air's stuff, but i also find it very hit and miss. spose it can't hurt to listen, though.

You think so? I'll have to go have another listen, but really what hit me first of all was this was actually too Air like... but yeah I'll come back with a final opinion on that later after more listenage... Don't really get the sexy boy comment though, seeing as though it was an anomaly on the album from which it came to begin with.

yeah, i'd agree with that, actually. sexy boy is about as un-Air as Air actually gets.

I kindof disagree, the first album really was about french kitsch, moog synths and to a certain degree avant-pop, which Sexy Boy was all about.
Anyways, I do really agree this album looks the goods, will need a few more digestions before I have a proper idea of it. The Jarvis Cocker track is very very good though

Had a bit more of a listen to it.... I do agree that it has more of a classical sensibility but stll disagree that it is that different to stuff they have done before...
It's a good album for background music, but what I always loved about Air is that they could deliver great, standout, memorable tracks, which, when you're workng in the kind of area they are, is hard to do... nothing on this album is like that for me yet, but I will endeavour to see if it ends up being a grower :)

I actually thought that Pocket Symphony was quite a step up from Talkie Walkie (which I personally thought was their weakest effort yet). I like the fact that it has a perceptibly darker edge (hell, my fave Air is still 10,000Hz Legend by a country mile)...I also tried it over dinner last night and it really worked...

Yeah Chris I loved 10,000Hz too!
Maybe I'm just all Aired out

Hehe - I can't really blame you there Nick - from what I could hear, apart from a bit of shamisen and koto I don't think the Air fellas have added a lot different to the equation here...

same, to an extent, at first anyway. agree that it's different to their previous, but it's grown on me.
