View Full Version : DJM400 or 800
Im trying to decide bw the DJM400 or the DJM800 when i get my new setup. My setup will be 2xTechnics 1200s and 2x CDJ1000s. I wont be using any of the midi functionality of the DJM800. So can anyone see why it would be worth it to spend the extra $1000 basically on the colour effects and the few extra beat effects that the DJM800 has? I was thinking I could just use the DJM400 as a 4 channel mixer by flicking bw phono and line btw.

Will you - or anyone you may care to team up with in the future - ever want to plug in a laptop, sampler, or synth?
With your vinyl and CDs sorted, you've maxed out your inputs before even getting the thing.
Just a thought. :)

^^ agreed you can pick the 600 up for a reasonable price these days!! But, if you"ve got the extra spundollies than you can go past the 800.
if you're not buying the 800 then get an xone 62 or an ecler mixer....
the 800 is a great mixer, even I'll admit it. but the 600 is not.

Good point Spectrum..
Im leaning towards the 800.. I like the beat effects it has which is why I hadn't considered the Xones, as for the elcer nuo's.. I havnt been able to find a place that has them on display/for demo (Im in sydney). And the 600.. well, yeah you can pick them up for a good price 2nd hand, but resale value will be pretty low in about 5yrs when I'll be thinking of selling most likely cause you'll be finding 800s for sale 2nd hand.
Thanks guys for the feedback :thumb:
spank records in sydney have the whole range of ecler mixers.
effects get tired after a few months... i certainly would never base a mixer choice around it.

Do a search in here for DJM600. This has been done to death. Short version: square waves.

I'm not a huge fan... definately a step up from the 600... but long way to go before it's on par with a xone:92 (fair bit cheaper though)...

They're shit!!

Im still to get my paws onto a Zone 92, I would like to own one, but there aint been any demand for it in the ACT.

I think general consensus here = http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b112/Bapt/SoulStrut/naglfinal.jpg
Yeah dude. dont get a 2 channel mixer.
go the 600 or 800.
personally 800 is my dream mixer (if i ever get off my ass and get a job) but i would settle at a 600. I mean.. im using a behringer DJX700 for fucks sake! Its gunna explode at one of my gigs soon i reckon.

everyone says the 600 is shit
the 800 has harmonic mixing which im pretty sure the 400 doesnt.

as anyone on this forum knows, I'm very critical of DJM series mixers.
the 800 i think couldn't have been a better answer to the critics of the 600. the sound i will admit still isn't up to par with a 92, but it's an easier mixer to use and while it took some time to be comfortable with the DJM mixers I felt instantly at home with the 800 within my first gig using it.
if i was going to buy a mixer i would seriously consider this unit :-O

i think I'd rather have a 2 channel mixer that wasn't complete arse than a behringer mixer any day fo the week.

oh definately... it'll probably be my next mixer unless i'm made of money :)
maybe it's easier to use cause you've had previous experience with the DJM's before??

Oh you dont understand.
my behringer is a step up from the old numark 2 chan mixer i used to have. Yanno those old ones with the transform buttons. You can't change the curve on the fader or anything.
Yep, as the owner of a 2-channel mixer I can tell ya -don't do it!
Of course you can switch between Phono & Line but screw that, using only 2 sources is gonna drive you crazy and limit what you can do.
Oh, and on the 600 vs 800; I only know what I've read in mags. 800 sound quality is good, 600 sound quality is not.
Save your $'s by buying only 1 x CDJ (or 1 x 1210?) and put the saved $'s into a better mixer, maybe?

My half-completed new setup! :)
drumroll for which mixer was selected please....
djm800 was the winner. Im picking it up this week some time when it arrives. ill post a pic of the final setup when its all done.
still have to get some good headphones.. any suggestions? I was thinking something from the HD series but not too expensive.. like.. around $200?
and yes.. my setup is ontop of the front door to the house.. and yes, it is a little bit windy inside these days.

Search this forum. Plenty of Info RE headphones. You will definitely find your answer IMO
Word up Djmarc. Enjoy your new kit. Click on the link -below -to my blog when you wanna put your door back on its hinges ;-)
On second thoughts, you'd need 3 of those $99 shelve units to fit all that kit on. :stroke:

HD25's over HDJ1000's easily - I've owned the 1000's for over a year and put some 25's on last weekend and was literally blown away by the comfort and sound quality/ loudness
For those of you that were following this.. heres the final setup. :)
Still have to get those headphones though.. I'll search the forums, but just searching some webpages there seems to be difference of about $100 bw the Sennheiser HD25 n HD25sp...
HD25s for around $390 n HD25sps for about $275
For those of you that have tried both of these headphones.. is there much difference between them? Do you think the double headband feature is worth the extra $100? Does it add to comfortability of the headphones?
Thanks

HD25s for $390 is cheap - grab em!
better still, buy all the parts and put em together- works out cheaper if you were any good at Meccano
And i know it's a moot point now that you own the desk, but I would've gone the 800 too.

Very impressive setup for the home!
If you cannot afford HD 25 "pros" go the "SP's" i own a pare of SPs and i am quite happy with them for the same price as 1000's i think they are much better.

So I guess you will get the hd25...any effects with that? EFX1000 or KP3 (Or both), then get Serato, a fast laptop with a huge hardrive...
Then get 4 speakers stands, 2 pair of kick ass speakers, 2 speaker monitors, a huge subwoofer. A few amps to drive the speakers and plug them to a speaker management system.
Then get a Mirror Ball, 2 heavy weight light stands, 2 fog machines, 2 bublesmachines, 2 strobes, 2 laser ligths effect a couple of rotating gobos all plug to a light mixing system (Might have to get a second laptop for that) lol...and cables lots of cables and gaffer tape...
Then wait until 11:46PM on a saturday night, serve yourself a Jager Bomb (Jagermiester shot dropped in a full glass of Red bull), then have a "Brain Fucker" (half white Sambucca, half black sambuca, poor a line on the bar to the glass, light it, throw a bit of pepper once the flame reach the glass, apply your hand on the flaming glass, wait for the vaccum effect, put your hand in the air, then drink it) by this time it is about 11:56PM, get a shot of staight Tequila, salt in mouth first, lemon straight afer tequila. Then load your meanest Mother F electro tune and blast it off at 12AM...if you have more cash don't forget, air con, pool table, and a complete bar with 4 stools (Plus lots of beer, get into homebrew much easier, so you can have kegs)....and please get a proper furniture for your equipment there is a guy that sells them on the Buy & Sell forum...When the cops knock on your door, lol don't worry you will not hear them...probably neighbor will have a shit face Sunday morning...don't worry...that was a hell of party...
