Finally have made the decision of how to enter the digital world after banging my head against a wall over the serato vs cdj thing and reckon I will get serato. But does anyone know if any future software upgrades will include effects?

I know serato is great for hip hop style dj's but does it have the ability for precision beatmatching/mixing of tha tech genres?

not sure about effects, but serato is more precise than cdj1000s

u can get pitch increase/decrease in +/- .01% compared to .02% for the cdj

Check out the new Traktor Scratch from NI. It runs on Traktor 3 with a good compliment of fx, Xone92 modelled mixer - and an 8x8 ASIO soundcard with vinyl + CD control. And you can run 4 decks at once....

Does sound good. Buuuuut I have a lot of mates with serato and I am no tech wizard. It is bloody solid setup as well.

Wait till the Merc has clogged diesel injectors and the turbocharger blows up. You'll wish you had the Mitsubishi.

Bit of a thread mine here, but relevant none the less

By the looks of things, the only reason to get Traktor Scratch over Serato is for effects, yes?

I am a tech kind of DJ (trance/electro etc) and Serato seems to be the best/easiest to use, but Traktor has effects which is handy...however you need a device to trigger them (like a trigger finger) to use them, unless you dig clicking effect buttons with a mouse during a gig!

serato has come out with effects for the tm57 on a beta testing version, the full version will be out soon. and very soon will have effects which you can control like tracktor

huh? the ttm57 has had effects for ages, these new beta effects are just ones they are adding to them.

i don't think serato will add effects to SL1 anytime soon, they seem to concentrate on stablity and low computer requirements and it would make the ttm57 a bit useless (compared to a ttm56, SL1 and midi trigger)

TTM57 have had FX since it came out, like entropy1 says, they are unlikely to come out with effects on the SL1 because it will take away from sales of the 57. Most likely Serato SL1 and TTm57 will never come out with support of more than 2 decks, if you want this you are better off getting the Traktor Scratch package four decks, plus FX built into the software.

I don't get this...isn't it only as accurate as the turntables/CDJs your playing it on???

^^^ In serato you can also adjust the pitch up and down by pressing E & R, and pitch bend by pressing T & Y on the keyboard.

isnt the whole point of these programms to alow the user to play vinyl just like vinyl yet using mp3s? last time i checked normal vinyl doesnt have effects

if you want that other stuff get ableton, why bother with traktor? if traktor is so cutting edge with effects and crap why do you even need the control viny? just use the laptop, what is the point of the control vinyl? is it that you still want to be seen as being a dj? rather then an IT technician

yea it has to be but if you had the most accuruate cdj or turntable it would keep up with it

i use serato without the cd or vinyl control, i use the keyboard which gives you the plus +/- .0.01% pitch resolution

With serato yes that was hte point and is the reason i bought it initially. but without the control vinyl i find i can do much more with loops, cue points and i find i can mix much cleaner with the hgiher pitch resolution

So you're just tinkering on a PC and lining up tracks with no CDJ/Vinyl...what about a mixer, or is that controlled from PC too?

Sounds lame...

Most likely Serato SL1 and TTm57 will never come out with support of more than 2 decks,

actually, i think it might, however the current SL1 box physically can't have 4 sources plugged in (even if you changed the firmware), however they might enable to plug two SL1 units into the same comp - but you would have to buy two SL1s

that wouldn't bother me at all, how come you can't run two instances of the program, can it be done?
