Disappointed

I have got to say I'm a little disappointed in the pricing of this gig. $60 is probably $15 more than it should be. This is not discounting Cox (as he is one of the best dj's playing the funkiest techno around) but considering Digweed was $25 (probably underpriced by $10 - but who's complaining!) I do believe the promoters are taking the piss.

I rang one of them the other day and brought this matter up and his response, "Well, it can't be that high as tickets are selling really well".

Please do us all a favour and don't go to this gig as all it is doing is supporting these kind of prices.

i understand what you are saying, but try going out in europe (i.e--london, ibiza , italy) and then u will know what expensive im talking close $100 to walk into most clubs...most clubs in ibizia charge about $10 for a bottle of water and about $15-20 for an alchohlic drink, but then again u can rock it pretty hard in other parts of spain and greece for pretty reasonable amount of money.........u have to realise that all these promoters are simply in it for a buck.........which is sad but they will try and scam as much from u as possible.

I agree the Cox/Emerson night is way expensive, but dont go comparing it with the Digweed night at $25. That was **extraordinarily** low. A one off price, and prob 'cause Fut. Ent. made enough money out of Melb punters at NYE and NY day. Maybe some sponsorship from Global Underground helped keep the price down too, as they were giving out flyers for GU 019?? Whatever reason I was grateful for the low price. I would have paid way more to see him though.

I'm going to see Cox and Emerson at BDO- a totally diff vibe tho'.

Rumours were that Digweed played that gig for free as a way for Future to recoup the money they lost on NYE. That's why it was so low.
Blame Lees and West for the high cost of Rotation 7, no doubt they're fucking Agent MAD around royally on this one to protect their own gig.

Emma - Clubbing in the UK is expensive, but not as much as you say. Cox has his own weekly, Ultimate Base, which is 8 pounds ($20). He also plays regularly at The End, tickets no more than 15 pounds ($37.50). This year he has started a residency at Renaissance @ Media (one of the biggest venues in th UK), tickets 12 pounds ($30).

I have never been to Ibiza but from what I know, your fairly correct in that instance.

$60 is still too much either way...

agree dissapointed... when in london i went to the following
oakenfold, mr c, brandon block, alex p, zombie nation - 10 pounds ($27ish)
mark farina, dj disciple, mustapha - 10 pounds
norman jay, commie, slacker, burger queen - 15 pounds
tenaglia, tom stephen, dopesmugglaz, soul of man, lee combs - 15 pounds

the lineups for the price in london are a bargain.

actually in sydney, cox and emerson for $60 looks like a bargain. In the last year
BT and Seb Fontaine $70
Mark Farina and Doc Martin $60
Dimitri $60
Derrick Carter $60
Oakanfold and Chicane $75 (?)
...

i think melbourne is going to get a look into sidders prices now that future hasn't had a string of glowing successes.

agree with price probs, but bob u r mistaken re: BT and seb at metro that was only $50. what da hell is the booking fee for!!!??? if u r not booking over the phone or via the net? i am from sydney and would be forever grateful if i had of been there for the evening with john digweed. i made it for welcome but after that i just craved digweed moreso like u wouldn't believe. never have i been so satisfied by a set.
according to the news segment here on in the mix, promoters are reducing the nye tix prices next year. lets see if they live up to their promises. u guys in melb seem to get the better nye gigs anyway so i'll probably be back next year.
1999/2000 welcome in melb, was a sick lineup and i missed thatone. pappa, mills, phats and small, carter, hybrid....we got cox(awesome) but bad venue(bondi).
anyway, hope u all enjoy cox and emerson.

I think what a lot of people don't understand is how the GST, coupled with unfavourable exchange rates and petrol-driven inflation, has really increased the costs of touring internationals.

The thing is that the international DJs want to be paid in their currencies, then they want the full treatment with five star hotels and business class travel. Maybe they want their agents and gfs to tour with them too - so add that to the costs. This all has to be passed on to consumers.

They said that the GST would hit the entertainment industry hard, here is proof.

Having witnessed the extravaganza that was the Cox/Emerson show @ Salt then at the BDO, I would pay it all again ten times over for the sheer pleasure of seeing that man do his thing. Coxy is GOD!
