View Full Version : Recommend a Mixer

Putting it out there:

I'm planning on upgrading my Numark DMX06 (good mixer for price) and am after any advice on offer.

My budget is about $700-800 and i need at least 3 channels.

I'm more interested in good sound quality than BMP counters, effects and flashing lights. However some effects (especially looping capabilities) would be a bonus.

I'm thinking i'll probably go with something 2nd hand.

If you use or have used a mixer that fits my description above let me know about it and whether i should consider it or steer clear..

Also Behringer is 'off the list'.

cheers

well considering your budget exceeds behringers range, it's safe to be assured no-one will recommend it them.

Thanks guys ecler nuo's sound very nice especially the nuo4 with the midi functions (not that i would use them atm but u never know about the future).

How does the DN- x1500 compare with the djm-600?

Bracko
14-May-07, 05:58pm
generally speaking it's a lot better.... but it's not a common mixer to see in a club.

it all depends on what you you view as important... the best possible mixer, or what you might see out and about in your gigs.

Agreed. Home-wise, or private-party wise the Denon shits all over the 600 in most areas, but for the purpose of getting used to it to eventually gain familiarity in the nightclub environment, it has little advantage over the 600 due to rarity.

Yeah that is a massive point actually I hadn't even considered that aspect (haha :( am i that far away from club djing).
I'm sure Pioneer sell alot of gear based on that fact. (surely worthy of discussion but not in this thread.)

I have heard that the djm600 hasn't got the greatest sound quality and in fact the djm400 is better and more similar to that of the djm800. Maybe i need 2 wait and just go all out 4 the djm800 when i have the moolah skipping the in-betweens....... :stroke:

get a couple of behringers? if you had 2x that one wit teh three channels and effects you could have 6 channels and double teh effects and if one craps out on you, the other one you still have? just because you want to spend that much, dont rule out behringers buddy

personally if i was going to save the money for an 800, I'd buy something different and better.

Nuo 3/4/5, Xone 62/92, Rane Empath - they'd be my recommendations. DJM800's aren't that great... At all.

they're a giant leap from the 600, which is a good thing.

Very true... still a bit of a toy, but they sound a lot better, the FX are much nicer, and it doesn't clip quite as harsh as the 600 does, which is a good thing..

Heard the sound quality on Numark 5000fx was awsome.
Now people will say it is shit...your budget is what it is, so no DJM800 no Xone 92 for this much money...but 3 channels, effects, and the money you want to spend will buy it:

can i ask why everyone puts shit on the 600? im thinking of getting one. why is the Denon DNX 1500S better?

richcur
17-May-07, 10:12am
Features Denon has that the 600 does not:

* the matrixed inputs (allowing any combination of line-in/phono across any or all of the 4 channels)
* fully digital with USB port for firmware updates
* totally seperate Send/Return section so you can use onboard EFX and external EFX at the SAME time
* limiter (which removes any chance of overloading the mixer no matter how high you crank it)
* smooth-as-silk Penny & Giles cross-fader with curve adjust
* 2 microphone controls (main and aux) with voice-over control

There's one for sale at: http://www.inthemix.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=193744

poor sound quality
stupid effects
squarewave mania

basically it's a mixer that has long been superseeded in terms of quality. the 800 is a serious contender and if i were to buy another mixer I'd be considering it without a doubt, but the 600 is long dead and burried in terms of options.

happydayz
17-May-07, 10:31am
800 is too expensive for me, looking more around the 600 price range, so DNX 1500S is a winner you reckon for its price?

did some say seperate Music Production and DJ'ing into seperate forums?

richcur
17-May-07, 11:14am
With or without my obvious bias, yes, the Denon is winner for its price. I say "without my bias" as I know plenty of people who have used, but don't own the 1500 and have talked about the same experiences. It's no different to their CD players, fantastic units, cheaper than the competition, but over-shadowed by the more heavily marketed and complacently requested Pioneers etc

seperate forums mixers are boooooooooooring. the best mixer ever is da tascam ones that cost $260 and are amazing. built like a tank ,good sound, smooth faders. which is all you nedd on a mixer.

Wow I put my Nuo 5 on a system last night and I really believe that it out shone the
Xone 62 that is normally on the system. The sound was great.

Reinforces just what a freakin mixer that it is.

NUMARK 5000FX

I have one, two cdjs, two technics, I scratch and abuse the shit out of it for a year, still sounds sweet. 30 second sampler, nice fx, 5 channels all up because one is dedicated to the mic, sounds better than a DJM600 and worth 800 odd

get one.

i've had mine for ages (2 years i'd say) and got it just to 'be going on with' thinking i was going to get something 'decent' however i haven't contemplated this until recently when my 5000fx's crossfader started to bleed. $55 from SPANK for a brand new, shipped crossfader (overnight) and my mixer is absolutely fine again

there isn't an actual dedicated mic channel though, it's Line / Mic and isn't crossfader assignable :thumb:

there was a dude selling one in the buying + selling forum recently for a decent price etc etc. check 'em out fo sho

my crossfader is starting to snap crackle a bit, but only on the ends because I scratch.
You can upgrade it to the CP- PRO which is a digital fader for 120 bucks, which is what I think I might do

55 bucks for a spank replacement through...

Sounds like your crossfader's going the same way my first one did. I bit the bullet because when scratching (which i do quite a bit) the static bleed or whatever was just pissing me off too much.

The standard crossfader is digital. The replacement from SPANK is digital too. I'm not 100% sure but i don't think the crossfader you mention will fit in the 5000fx. I say this because i did quite a bit of research while i was looking to replace my cross-fader because i was originally planning on upgrading it if possible, and couldn't find any cross-faders to suit it other than the standard one.

I just had a quick look at the CP-Pro and "Will suit the Numark DXM 06, 03, 09 and Pro" so unfortunately it won't fit in the mixer. On the brightside you can buy 2 replacement crossfaders for the amount of cash you were going to spend!

You'll be amazed at how much life a replacement fader will bring to the mixer too

Just had a gig with a DJM800 and must say it was impressive. It also has the one feature I need on an ideal mixer - separate external (send/return) effects section with the ability to use onboard filters at the same time, ie. the "colour" effects section. Was superb.
Will add to my list of Denon DN-x1500 and Xone62 or 92 as the "mixer for me"

hmmm i've seen that on the sites in australia, but a guy in some forum in the USA said the cp pro would suit....

however, with a new fader (at half the price) i'm not complaining!!!!!

I'm suspecting they put budget faders in there to begin with to keep prices low?

if you're looking in the $700 mark i'd personally go the vestax vmc004fx

it's got 4 channels and fx and you can upgrade the cross fader to the pcv (i think some come with the upgrade for free if you look around)

i can't comment on the fx one, i've got an older vmc004 but it's been a nice sturdy little unit

I was looking hard at those mixers when buying my new one.

The only thing against them was they were a bit small, and I have unusually large ape hands.

I went with the numark.

both mixes pack value for money
