View Full Version : dodgy pressing of dj shadow - endtroducing?

I bought a brand new, sealed, vinyl copy of endtroducing on the weekend.

The first thing I thought when I played it was 'why the f.ck did it take me so long to get this?'

My second was 'what the hell is wrong with my turntables?' The records (both the first and second record) jump... quite a bit.

No scratches, nothing. The records are perfectly flat, no warping.

When I looked really close, from certain angles, I could see little circular imperfections. They're generally at least a couple of centimetres from the edge of the record. They aren't holes or scratches - the groove still seems fine. They seem to cause the needle to wobble until it jumps out of the groove. Maybe they're slight indentations?

Nothing else I play causes any problem.

Anyone else experienced this before? With this record or any other?

my copy is not the greatest pressing in the world - a bit noisy, and the needle tends to jump during scratching

why are some of the greatest rekkids of all time pressed on such poor quality vinyl (ie, the entire public enemy back catalogue)

My CD plays perfectly. And I accidently left it out in the sun once. There ARE some advantages of CDs over vinyl.

there are lots of advantages of cd over vinyl... but those (few but significant) advantages of vinyl over cd more then make up for the disadvantages, I think...

That happened to me with Endtroducing - Not once, but twice. That was about 18 months ago... amazing disappointment. It seems that there was a hleaa big batch of dodgy pressings, something about the particular pressing plant being used...

I would go straight back to where I got it from and get the shop to sort it out....there's no way you should stand for that kinda crap riley.

If it was sealed and the imperfections are visible then you should be able to get them to re-order it and replace it or alternatively get a credit. This sounds like a clear case of sub-standard merchandise.

Good luck
