A Hard one!!! So you can spend 2000 but not 3000...kind of
It is hard to recommend coz I do not know you, but lets say you are interested in Djing because it is cool etc then I would say spend it on the least expensive setup. Now if you are the music man of your group, and I would know you really are into music and djing is really going to be something permanent or at least for a few years...anyway in this case I would say get 2 800mk2 and the dxm06 (Off course if you can afford the djm400 then go for it) but at least you have something to play with, then when you have more money you can purchase the DJM400 and resell the dxm06. The reason I say get the 800mk2 is because obviously you have a strong interest on it already so just get it, but also they are similar to the 1000 in a way so...well you know what to do.

i'd go the first option... you'll get more money back for a pair of cdj1000's than u would for a djm400 if you decide it's not for you...
and it's a fair bit cheaper to upgrade your mixer later on than it is to upgrade your cdjs... also the price differencer between a dxm06 and djm400 is less than a cdj200 and cdj1000 (times that by 2)...

Id go option 1...but im the type that doesnt step on the cracks in the sidewalk.
If you can affored 2x 800s and a mixer go that though, a DJM400 is nice and all, but its not really needed in a bedroom setup imo...its good to get a handle on the 800s though becasue its likely that if you eventually move to a club environment you'll be more comfortable after playing with them.
You will probably have an easier time learning on a pair of 800s rather than the 200s, so I would go with your first setup.
Just buy the best gear you can afford, it will make the learning process far more enjoyable.
whoops... I read the first post as CDJ1000's... I'd still go the first setup though...

I don't see how this is relevant to us, the real question is "would that put you off???
I have seen people with one turntable & PC hook to mixer doing cool mixes, reason being they could not afford second TT. I have seen the same as well with one CD player and PC...I have seen a few with 1 CDJ800 and 1 CDJ1000. As a matter of fact I have seen quiet a few of these kind of setup.
The only thing that may be a bit inconvenient if you are starting up (Not if you have certain experience) is that you will have to get the feel of 2 different pitch sliders and nudging on 2 different wheel, so the sensibility might vary especially beetween 200 & 800.

I bought two CDJ200's as my first CD players. Would have liked 1000's but the price is way over the top. They are a bit tricky at first but you will figure them out after not too long. DXM06 is a great little mixer to start with. Good value. I had mine for 3 years with no problems.
I really wish Pioneer released teh CDJ800MKII with .02% pitch increments. Would have been perfect!!!
My 2 cents:
I'd go for the 1st option...
I've got a dxm06 and it a great unit to start with.
As for using 2 different turntables with different pitch sliders and shit, might be slightly harder to pick up but once you do u'll be better off. Your skills will have that extra depth which will make you a better dj and better at using the unfamiliar equiptment that you may encounter.

lol would did not own the DXM06??? I sold mine to a friend then re purchased another one. Although I am not using it that much, I still have it for back up purposes...They are cheap, full of features and definitely awsome to start with...

Well not sure about the price...tought you could get the 800 for $1050 at JB if getting 2, surely if it was the case I would have gone $2100 for 2x800. But not sure where the price stands right now...can you tell how much you got the 800 for?
Anyway what do you think now that you have them?

When I purchased my CDJ800s from JB hi fi a couple of months ago I managed to get the price down to $2000 for both. In my opinion spending that $112 and getting 2 x CDJ800s is a much better option.
Its always funny seeing people selling second hand CDJ800s for way over the price I bought them brand new :?

Yeah I have seen that quiet a few times on ebay, I thing the last pair of second hand 800 Mk2 I was watching sold for $960 each...nothing against the cdj200 but sure would have put the extra money even if it was up to $250 more...

Option 3 - save for another few months and get 2 x CJD800's or buy them now and skimp out on the mixer!
For learning, you don't need a flash as mixer, extra bells and whistles just get in the way. You do, however, need quality decks/CDJs (well, not even really NEED, but it's best) Even that DMX has bells and whistles which you just don't need when learning to beat match. Pick up a cheap as chips, or 2nd hand, 2 channel basic as fuck mixer and if in 2-3 years time when you know you're sticking at this mixing thing, upgrade it. You'll outwear a CDJ 200 faster than you will a crappy low end mixer...

huey - permitting you're an OK credit risk, any place will do you finance. But shop around for low interest rates.
It makes no difference to the stores as they "sell" the debt to a finance company in most cases. Finance company pays for your CDJs, you pay them back (usually at criminal rates of interest in the realms of 20%)
Better yet, personal finance loan from a bank, usually around 12% if you have car as colateral.

12% Is still abit high though..... Some places like DJ Warehouse off interest free payments which is cool. Banks are just rorted so yeah.. DON'T GO TO BANKS, but if you have to them check out the personal loans at a credit union

when on "interest free payments" you buy the units almost at list price... you have no grounds to argue a lower price.
it may actually be finanically more efficient to buy them on a bank loan sometimes if you can pay cash.

Just my 0.02 but..
I have owned CDJ-100s, 200s, used 800s and now own 1000s. I would have gone for the 200s over the 800s and save up to buy 1000s. The waveform display on the 1000s is invaluable and its missing from the 800s so you might as well get 200s. I know that the 200s dont have the same interface but once you get used to the 200s they are actually a similar amount of "push" to tend tracks as vinyl.
Actually, I would probably buy a 1000 and a 200, then save up for another 1000.
Using 800s I always feel like they are missing something... which they are.. waveform display :)
The waveform display on the 1000s is invaluable
Agree.
It adds a whole new dimension to your mixing and is worth the extra $.
Save my friend, and you will not regret.

Why do you need the waveform?
If you know how your tracks work / sound wouldn't it be pretty much useless?

When I bought my gear a while ago I went with this option ^^^. I bought brand new Stanton 180's (as they were cheaper than 1200's but do the job just as well in my opinion, and in the opinions I sought) and to those I added a crappy Behringer djx700 mixer. The mixer was only $400 and hasn't missed a beat since I got it. I still don't think I'd be able to tell the difference in quality between my mixer and a $1000 and up mixer. Vinyl sent me poor so I grabbed 1000's and the TT's sat in the corner of my room as I didn't have any new vinyl to play on them (my crappy $400 allowed me to have both cdj's and both TT's running though :thumb: ) Anyways had to sell the cdj's to fund another motorbike and now I'm looking at buying serato. I tried to use a cdj100 or 200 the other day and nearly spat it. It just felt so much harder to use than the 1000's.
Crappy 2 channel mixer is all you need, second hand 1000's mk2 would set you back around $1100 each (I'm not EXACTLY sure on market value of those but I sold my mk2's for $1250 each before the mk3's came out) I'm glad I didn't drop a k on a mixer considering I don't mix more than a handful of hours per month. It's just something I like to do every now and then. If you end up using yours every day for the first year maybe it would be worth investing in a higher quaility mixer but until then you could even be let loose in a club with some experience on the 1000's
Hope you find what your looking for :thumb:

agreed. learn your tracks
also on the thing about the cdjs... all those pioneer cdjs are piss easy to mix on.. the 100s are awesome in their own little way (always liked the jog wheel on them). i have an 800 and have absolutely no problem with it, the only thing that would make me get a 1000 is the looping function is a bit better. waveform display is pointless

when on "interest free payments" you buy the units almost at list price... you have no grounds to argue a lower price.
it may actually be finanically more efficient to buy them on a bank loan sometimes if you can pay cash.
Also "interest free" payment plans often have a monthly account keeping fee which is the same no matter how much you still owe so these can sometimes be as expensive as a loan where the interest is only on money owing. Not too mention some payment plans have really long terms and you could often pay off a loan in a shorter time.
I'm also pondering buying a setup, I'm also a complete n00b, not wanting to learn to mix because its "cool", I have a genuine passion to want to mix so I want a decent setup (doesnt have to be shit hot though). In the MP3 / CD market.
JB HI FI stocks all this kind of stuff do they? I cant remember ever seeing DJ equipment in there.
Also does anyone have any Australian DJ equipment websites? Just so I can have a gander.

To add to that. Lightsounds are having a massive sale at the moment and they are selling CDJ800s for $999 cash.
www.lightsounds.com.au thats their site - they are a walk in store and have a few locations depending on where you are. The sale prices are in the pdf catalogue pages on the home page.
hope that helps :thumb:

Well mate, I started on Stanton C.303's and they were terrible - 1 kept breaking over and over again so I'm sus on cheap decks. I had them for about 6 months before upgrading to CDJ-800mk2's and I never looked back. They are close enough to CDJ-1000's in feel and layout which have been in every club I've ever played in and they are a well built solid unit with enough features (and none of the crap) to keep you occupied at any level. Some clubs that can't be fucked buying a 3rd CDJ-1000 have 1 CDJ-800 as a 3rd deck. I highly recommend them because they are a great deck, but lack a few features (SD Card / Loop in adjust) that the CDJ-1000 has which aren't that important at home anyway and so it keeps the price down. Great beginner deck if you have the cash for them.
Aiight cool. I noticed you're a fellow Queenslander, you picked yours up from JB HIFI you were saying? I'm in Brisbane, which JB did you get yours from, will they all order them in by request?

I got mine from the Kedron store (Lutwitch) on the Northside, I think the guys name was James who I delt with..... so if you wanna go in there try him. It took a while for them to come in - like 3 weeks or so. But I was happy to wait that long when at the time lightsounds weren't even willing to drop to 1300 each. I was happy to wait for $1050.
And best of all (or worst of all) I got mine on a store credit card (through HSBC) so I didn't have to save up - but now im still paying them off {:-(
