I'm having issues at home with one of my channels. I have a DJM500 and connected to it are two 1210's and two CDJ1000's. The problem is I'm getting much lower levels out of one of my turntables than the other - i.e. I have the gain at about 40% on one and 90% on the other to get equal sound levels. The other turntable and the CDJ's work fine.

At first I thought it could be a problem with my needles as they were a good three years old, so I bought new ones (and new headshells etc) but that's done nothing to resolve the problem. I've tried plugging the turntable into a different channel but the problem doesn't seem to get much better, making me wonder if the problem is with the turntable output itself of I have a problem with the mixer.

Before I take them both in to be serviced, does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be, and if it's something I could fix myself (i.e. dust getting anywhere that could be dampening the output) or whether it's just best to take the offending turntable and the mixer in for a service?

possibly an earthing problem in the turntable.. maybe even a tonearm

If it happens when the tt is connected to other channels then it's not the mixer

If you swap the channels that the turntables are plugged into and the fault follows them, then it could be an issue in the cabling from headshell to socket. They are 4 very thin wires and they are thus somewhat fragile.

I'd take the offending deck in and get it serviced.
