It's been posted elsewhere on ITM but thought I'd put it here for anyone who hasn't grabbed it yet.

4 hours or so, HMC first and then Danny for the last few hours:

Does he ever play in Sydney? All these Australians I know with interesting taste in music seem to have been influenced by him...love to hear him spin sometime.

HMC i believe does not like flying..
Racket set in 2001ish was only small example of his skills..
Best at House & Tech, but you can really loose yourself to his early morning disco sets .

yeah, HMC doesn't fly basically, he's the Morgan Geist of Australia...

we had a plan to fly down to adelaide, rent an RV and kidnap him to come play in Sydney... maybe it's time to revive that plan...

and this one has this dope acid line combined with Danny's signature sleazy electronic disco style:

In the last 7 years he's played here 3 times from memory. Twice at Racket and once at a one off party out at the Newtown Jets club at Tempe.

He doesn't like flying, so getting him anywhere is a little difficult.

actually HMC played back in 2000 at 'Cyberotica Technotica' on mardi gras weekend at that venue underneath angel place... from memory kazu kimura also played that night.... a really great night from what i can still remember of it!

re: Danny Wang's "Nocturnes"... in the case of 'Black Boots and Sine Waves'... while Danny didnt sample anything for the record he recreated the baseline from:

http://www.discogs.com/release/245931

... a real nice slice of early 80s dubby disco/proto/electrofunk

in regards to Danny Wang.

when he says he doesnt use samples
he doesnt sample any1 else.
...

But does he sample himself? ie. sample a drum loop hes made etc.? or loop a synth line hes made?

or does he play everyhting by hand for the whole traxx?

cos his more recent traxx sound much more loop orientated than the Environ stuff

He started out using samples and loops from other tracks, but I think the point he's trying to make is that now he makes all-original compositions. Which could include samples of his own drum programming and keyboard sounds... but from the sound of his most recent OG work (the collabs with Kaos and the 'Higashiyama No Autumn' track on Jetset) it sounds like he's writing original sequences using sounds from keyboards/soft-synths/modules and his own drum tracks.

This idea that samples make a track less "original" is a shaky one I think particularly in the context of house and disco. How you make a sound is less interesting to me than the sound itself. Danny makes great tracks but he does yammer on a bit :)

^^^ yes.

even lookin at Danny's body of work -

there is such a different feel and emotion being conveyed post balihu.
arguably it could be said that it sounds morre like HIM.

stuff like 'Get Up', 'Like Some Dream...' sounds like it coulda come from moodymann, piranahead etc...

Def agree! :) House and disco is built on samples/influences.
... and Danny always gives good press.
