Interested to know what you old-skool heads think of DFP, over-rated or true to the sound?

some of the stuff Dimitri has done/been involved with has been awesome...

this comp is great for e.g. :

http://www.discogs.com/release/17729

i quite like his edit of Carribean Disco too:

http://www.discogs.com/release/185033

Dims mix on Milliondollar disco is cool too:

http://www.milliondollardisco.com/mixes.html

... i'm jus not so much of a fan of his take on the house sound.

I'm a big fan...

I bought this http://www.discogs.com/release/18340 when it came out while I was living in London and he has been on my radar since. I'm always on the lookout for a "Dims Edit".

I've liked some of his stuff but a lot of it gets quite cringeworthy. Too many tracks with overly sincere diva style vocals.

Just picked up his 'Cocktail Disco' compilation, a little Caribbean-Bondthem-esque, but worth a listen :)

i was a major fan - his debut, the mixmag set, dimitri from tokyo - but i saw him play records at that club on Pitt St and it was rather boring house.

if only he could clone a crowd of 300 of you (which doesn't look too impossible looking @ paradise lost parties)
though im sure some parties he plays at are like that (outside of australia :)) its sad, did u read what radioslave said about .au?

story, i walked into turntable lab nyc 2 years ago and a mixtape was playing hottttt disco music, i didnt know ONE song that was playing
so i asked the guy behind the counter what it was?? and that i didn't know any tracks.. he laughed and said, dimitri from paris circa 93. hah

i walked out of the store with my loose joints reissue feeling kinda stupid ;) hahaha

i personally can't judge the guy, he's been around for a long time, like i won't ever diss nicky siano if he plays m - pop music (which i like) in dj sets, or new madonna/camp club tracks, i think he plays what the crowd wants, esp at a gay gig. etc....... i've heard a few people complain because he didn't play disco classics or some rare unknown obscure shit.. drink more cinzano and get your party on.

Anyone who puts Corazon on their comp is alright by me.

He's done some great edits in his time, but I have to say I saw him DJ a couple of years ago and he was playing straight up dated and maxi bland housey stuff. Very uninspired. He was headlining and he was following on from a house DJ.... I guess he felt he had to stay the course, keep it MOR - he succeeded in doing that brilliantly. Either that or there was a subtle request down the phone line to Paris from the booking agent "No No don't haul all those out here, all they want to hear is your playboy mansion set..."
Jesus, you've done your time man, play what you like. playing it safe is not safe.

Maybe he likes the bland house? Can't have impeccable taste all the time

yeh, i was there (circa 1999/2000) and it was rather boring, vocal house with a little disco.

Any edits of Phenomena Theme floating around? The 70's movie theme strings kinda don't do that record any justice. Still great to listen to though.
