For dj’s and budding producers,
As the title says, what do you think are the best methods of getting your sound heard and getting gigs in Sydney’s house music scene? Where do you send your demos? What sites do you promote your music threw?
If you searched, you would have found a thread on self promotion. try that first.

i must say myspace is a great tool if your a beginner. 3 months ago i was lucky to get 1 city/cross gig - now things are a little more busy which is nice.
every gig u do, potentially leads to more gigs so make them a good one, you dont know who is listening
id also put it to meeting the right people, giving demos and hanging at parties u enjoy. promoters wont give u time of day if u just drop CD off and leave (i know from experience & its fair enough), most i have come across wanna see u at there parties, know your at least a decent human being. i have enjoyed a friendly expereince getting to know promoters/DJs but i know some people will warn u it can be cut throat/bitchy

Obviously real life, but my question extends a bit further than this.
Find a club you like to play at..
Take Drugs..
Make friends..
Host epic kick-ons at yours, shout stuff..
Not all of us take drugs.
shit i hate to do that.

This is more what I’m getting at, how do you know who these people are? And get in touch with them? And what ones are willing to give you a go?

Exactly but where are some good places to start, to find people willing to give you a first gig so in turn you can get your sound heard and meet more people who can potentially get you more gigs?
Re read marcus's post, it tells you exactly what you need to do.
Surely there is a party you have been to that is up your alley??
If you haven't found a party that plays anything like your style or anything, then generally its up to you to build the scene unfortunately.
Beware of some nights around that rely on you bringing a lot of people through the door to ensure a gig.

u wont know who the promoters are, they dont have signs round their necks. myspace is good way to find more info on their nights, club websites, ask the DJs spinning politely, inthemix is also a great tool.
i dont do drugs either, it dont mean shit
places to start are the places u enjoy going to, places where they play music u like
look other people cant do the work for u, if u want it bad enough u will chase it (without being too much of a pest to the promoters), its a learning experience but you're better for it. its not easy but anything worthwhile usually isnt. u have all the answers u need, go spread your wings and fly my boy
a little hope for u...
ive wanted to play with SHE ever since i went to one of their parties to see my fav DJ/producers Chuck Love, 16 months later, this sun, i got my first gig with them, so its possible

a dj friend of mine spends atleast one weekend a month going from club to club to club saying hi to influential people, it takes him all weekend too.. They know him and a few book him but he always tries to stay fresh in their minds so if a opportunity does come up.. They'll think of him...
My best gig ever was a fill in gig for Ajax... and that was just cause someone thought of me as a fill in when Ajax was ill... Still not sure why they thought of me but I am sure that if I hadn't stuck my face in front of theirs, that gig would never have happened...
