Well, I'm interested in getting into mixing sets / songs, and since im new to it all, I'm starting out at the bottom, just messing around with MP3's and programs, trying to learn some of the basics before I try my hand at some more advanced stuff. Anyway, I'm currentley using Acid Pro 6.0, and I'm just wondering, to all you more experienced mixers / DJ's out there, is this a reasonable program to start with? I'm still learning it right now, so I'm still getting used to the features and what not, but basically just wanted to know if I can get some decent experience using it to try and mix with? If not, are there other programs out there you could recommend for a beginner such as myself?

Any help / recommendations would be good :thumb:

if you are just into mixing stuff i'd suggest checking out traktor 3 or ableton.

traktor has a much more classic dj-esque layout and it's entire purpose in life is to do virtual disc jockey type stuff.

ableton is a much more powerful program that allows you to do all the dj stuff you want to do and a whole bunch more

you can download the demos for both these pieces of software to see which one you prefer etc.

i much prefer traktor 3 for doing dj stuff.

adding a midi-controller to the party will have a massive positive effect too, allowing you to control pretty much every software parameter.

also you should probably act like a sponge and soak up as much info as possible, and also it's a good idea to search to see if anyone else has asked a similar question (which they have many times over) because there are a lot of grumpy old bastards here that love nothing more than showing how awesome they are by belittling you, but in saying that there are some awesome people here so anyway don't mind me and please enjoy your stay

What archietech said.
If your talking about "DJ" mixing then acid is not what you will be after. You'll be better of sticking with virtual dj etc etc programs or preferably traktor or ableton.
But for remixing and creating mixes (not live) then acid with Soundforge is great. But ableton is better. Plus with ableton you'll have room to go further.

Thanks guys, appreciate the quick and helpful responses :thumb: I'll have a look into Ableton and Traktor 3, they sound like more what I'm after. I do have Virtual DJ though, I just find it difficult to mix with since I dont have the time to break it down and see what works and what doesnt (or maybe I can, I'm just too much of a n00b, lol).

Thanks again.

EDIT: Yeah I forgot to add, I'm not live mixing :thumb:

ableton demo here ---> clicky (http://www.ableton.com/pages/downloads/demo)

traktor demo here ---> clicky (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Audio/Audio-Mixers-Synthesizers/Traktor-DJ-Studio.shtml)

if you're not doing any of this stuff live mate you should really read up on midi-controllers. i'm not even going to try and put into words how strongly i feel about their power! harness it!
