Has anyone else out there been suckered in by UBI-Soft's RPG Pool of Radiance?

It has to be the worst RBG out there, and is a good example of why proper legislation on quality should be implemented. It looks like it was never tested before it was released, as you had to download a patch just to install it!!

I am sorry, but I think it is unacceptable to release a product to market in its state. Unfortunatly, being in Australia, games here still cost $80-90 6 months after they are released, but I bought PoR anyway, as I loved the old TRS / SSI games I played on my XT, and Baldur's Gate more recently. So, buying PoR was natural.

Unfortunatly, the game lookg good, is well packaged, and seems to be very playable. Except it is as buggy as hell. Did they do any quality control testing at all? I more than meet minimum specs, yet the game is unplayable!! Am I the only one that is dissapointed that UBI released such a program to the market, then expect us to download 4meg patches on 28.8k modems, when the server is constantly full (I tried for 24 hours untill i got them!!) 8 months after it has been released, the same buggy CD's are still being sold as "Retail Copys" even when they have acknowledged the problems?

There is a distinct difference between Beta software, and Retail software.
I know it is a hard market, and UBI has to get the games out quickly, but I would rather wait, and have a relativly problem free game, than the piece of S*#t I pulled out of the box.

Just my 2 cents.

yeah i rented it out ages ago cause i heard how shit it was and i wanted to see for myself. and it was definately shit. absymal interface, shockingly slow gameplay, and like you said - buggy as all hell. not only that, apparently there was some deal where uninstalling it could fuck your win98 installation.. haha.

i agree with ya competely.. gamemakers are getting so damn slack these days. the internet makes it so easy for them to simply 'patch it up' if theres any probs with it down the road. in all fairness, publishers usually pressure developers them to release it at a certain date/time of year (to maximise sales) and so they're forced to push it out the door earlier and consequently with less testing/QA. but when you get games like Tribes2 having two patches released for it before it had even hit store shelves, you have to wonder..

anyways.. if you're a Baldurs fan you gotta get Neverwinter Nights man, this game kicks ASS. :D

Someone recomended Planescape: Torment so will have to check it as well, but will look at Neverwinter Nights. Have heard about it but not much.

ive searched high and low for Planescape cause ive heard nothing but stellar things about it.

another one to have a squiz at is Icewind Dale, which is by the Baldur's team, but seems to be sligtly more action oriented. still has a great and immersive story though.

BioWare/Black Isle Studios are definately the ones to look out for at the moment when it comes to RPGs. They made Baldurs 1&2/Icewind/Planescape/Neverwinter. they can do no wrong in my eyes :)

check out a Neverwinter Nights preview here (http://gamespot.com/gamespot/stories/previews/0,10869,2862189,00.html) dude.
