HeadFUNK '10' @ The Tivoli Theatre
Saturday 2nd June 2001

HeadFUNK started from humble beginnings, on a Sunday afternoon some four years ago within a small inner city restaurant called Left Bank (now 2), with at the time an unknown DJ, called Roger Sanchez. HeadFUNK has gone onto become Brisbane’s most respected club event, selling out well in advance.

Over the years, HeadFUNK has been about pushing the boundaries of the dance music, providing the people of Brisbane with an essential mix of deep funk laden grooves. The growth of HeadFUNK has meant the move to larger venues, whilst never straying from its philosophy of providing the finest in deep, dark, funk driven rhythms. HeadFUNK’s desire to push the dance music confines is only equalled by its desire that the venue chosen for this event be nothing short of the best in style and atmosphere.

For our tenth HeadFUNK celebrations we deliver our most evolved party thus far, from the direction of the music and production. The night will be jammed with the best line-up HeadFUNK has delivered. From dance music pioneer and genre definer Dave Clarke in his first Brisbane appearance to the rich beat lavished sounds of Manchester’s (UK) DJ King and percussionist Beatroot. HeadFUNK ‘10’ also leads the drive of presenting Australia’s newest stars of international dance music Simon Digby (mel) plus Simon Caldwell and Kid Kenobi (syd).

HeadFUNK - Four years and '10' events - Celebrating an innovation

Dave Clarke – World Service

Since Dave Clarke's unmatched debut album "Archive 1" back in 1996 - containing perhaps dance music's greatest electronic anthem in 'Red 2' - he has gone on to be one of the world's most sought-after producers and almost certainly one of the genre’s biggest DJ's.

Dave's DJ residencies are hand picked affairs at some of the world's best clubs, playing at the UK's Bugged Out, Pure, Atomic Jam and Headstart, Barcelona's Nitsa and Belgium's Fuse. 2001 looks likely to be his biggest DJing year yet with headlining bookings at Creamfields and Homelands festivals, plus a host of international festivals. When he's not DJing in the world's most groundbreaking clubs he's in his studio producing his radio show "Technology" that is currently being syndicated worldwide.

After temporarily putting on hold his recording career, Dave has again flexed his studio muscle via remixes for Moby, Underworld, Leftfield, Laurent Garnier and Midfield General. With Dave’s production career back in full swing, HeadFUNK is very fortunate to witness the tour release of his “World Service” CD, a onetake technoelectro mixdown.

Simon Digby (mel) – Wetmusik
Simon Digby is seen to be a pioneer when it comes to club culture in Melbourne. Turned onto electronic music when aged 15, his reputation for playing both deep funky house and harder groove techno sounds has seen Simon play at almost every major event on the world class Melbourne calendar. He regularly plays with likes of Derrick Carter, Armanda Van Helden, CJ Boland and Thomas Schumacher with whom he played with in Germany on his last tour of Europe.
With his partner Will E Tell the label Wetmusik was born, which has seen a number successful records released already. His latest release under his own name, titled “Bottom Line” has already sold out its first release pressing worldwide and is being repressed to keep up with demand for this tek-house dance floor stormer.

Kida Kenobi (syd)
Kid Kenobi aka Jesse Desenberg grew up surrounded by music, with his father playing in numerous Afro-Caribbean bands. In high school Kid Kenobi discovered his love affair for beats with his obsession for artists like ‘A Tribe Called Quest,’ ‘Native Tongue’ and Ultramagnetic MC’s etc.
His passion for anything with a deep, rich bassline drew him to take up Djing in 95. With his extensive record collection Kid Kenobi quickly became known for his diverse DJ set dropping anything from Soul II Soul to hip hop, rave classics to trip hop, and early acid breaks to drum n bass. This eclecticism and love of anything with a broken beat has seen Kid Kenobi tour Australia, New Zealand and Asia extensively over the last two years.

Simon Caldwell (syd)
Since playing records on a small independent radio station in 91, Simon Caldwell has gone on to become one of Sydney’s and Australia’s most respected house DJ’s. Simon reputation for moving a dance floor with his soulful house and techno set, sees him constantly playing along side the likes Derrick Carter, Jeff Mills, Frankie Knuckles, Gilles Peterson, Ian Pooley, Daft Punk, Stacey Pullen, Carl Craig, Rolando, and Claude Young when on tour in Australia.
In the last two years Simon’s Djing talents have seen him invited to play in Germany and Spain to great reviews.
