View Full Version : Cdj 800
I've searched but no results.
Apart from no hot cues, is there any other major difference between the 800's and the 1000's?
I just had a play with one in JB, and It was nice, the platter felt nice too, thinking of getting one.
Also what is a good price, ie what can I negotiate down to at JB?
Cheers

Got a price from JB yesterday, worked out to be about $1140 each.
Ok so I should say around $1150 for one?
Also, for a home deck, are they OK? I play out a bit, and use 1000's obvioulsy when out, but I want a CD player at home too. Worth it, or should I just get a 1000?

Hey Saad,
There was a PDF doc around a few months ago that had all the specifications of the different pioneers CD players so you could see what differ from models and mks, I thought I had saved it, but now I cannot get a hold of it.
Also if my memory is correct I think I have heard that somehow you could change the jog wheel settings so if you push it just a fraction it could nudge fast or you could make it go slower for the same push...well something like that which you could not do with the 800...to be confirmed by 1000's owners though.

The 1000 MK3s allow u to adjust platter tension, and have separate knobs for start up and brake times, but theyre not really an issue to me.

Don't settle for $1150 for a cdj800. I got the sales person from JB to get it down to $1050 ($2100 for two) pretty easily. In the end though, I got my cdj800s at $1000 each. :)
ok, but Im only buying one.... Ill push for $1000. Which JB was this at btw? And whats the best way to get them to go down to $1000

JB city store, but I live in Melbourne. They didn't have any in stock so they had to order them from the dandenong store. At first he gave me 2 djm800s instead of 2 cdj800s. I tried to walk out with them after paying only $2000 for $5000 worth of equipment but I didn't make it out the door . You probably won't get it for $1000 since your only buying one, but you could still try.

I just asked him what he could do them for and whats the best price I can get them at. I kept making him go to his manager because every time he gave me a price I didn't accept it. Theres no trick really.
Cheers.
Ill try for $1000 but woul be happy for up to $1100

800's also don't have the memory card for saving umpteen thousands of cue points and loops.
I don't like the adjustable platter thing on the 1000's, I think a standard is a much better idea...saves taking over from someone else who's been fucking around with it and causing havoc on your adjustments until you get it dialed to a spot you like.

Yeah JB is awesome, i scored 1000's for $1450 plus $90 for 5 year extended warranty. got them after i sold my 800's which i bought in sept last year for $1000, ended up making a profit on them
CDJ800 doesn't have a seperate adjustment for start/stop times, loop in adjust or reverse switch...
cowabungadude, was that 1000mk3's you got for $1450? Was that recently?
yeah separate adjust like the knobs, thats the break stuff in viny. It doesnt have a reverse swtich, but has a reverse button.
Loop in adjust? So you cant fine tune loops youve made?

You can fine tune the exit point, not the entry point. Exit point is the hard one to get right anyways...

ahh.. i didn't know it had a reverse button :)

ouch i got ripped of thirty dollars each deck haha
Saad, i take it you didn't end up getting traktor?
IMO traktor>CD players.
I was honestly considering traktor, but then I was like, I'm never gonna take it to a club or anything, so whats the point? At least with an 800, most clubs have 1000's which are similar enough.
But then I'm like do I really need a CD player? Because, I know my way around a 1000, and the reason I want a CD player is so I can practice mixing with the tracks I get off beatport...
I'm just really confused, I really don't know what to do!

I know my way around a CDJ well enough now that I don't need one at home to practice on in terms of mixing/skills, and since I don't have a laptop, Traktor/Serato etc isn't a viable option really. Have considered getting VDJ software purely so I can piss around at home and mix digital tracks to hear what they go together like, even if it isn't so "hands on" - cheaper than buying 2 CDJs or Serato and so long as you're not using it to "cheat" your mixes, it does the trick for listening/playback.
If you have a soundcard with two line outs, you can run one each into two channels of your mixer and then control the sound with your mixers EQs, adjust the pitch on the PC and you're still manually mixing the tracks. Specific buttons can be assigned for the cues/play for each channel...and then if you're at home too chopped to actually mix, then you can use the Auto Synch button and still mix smoothly!
