View Full Version : What did you think of Two Tribes?
So come on....what did you think of Two Tribes??
Personally I had a great day. The venue worked - much to many people's surprise, the crowd was not full of the "wrong type of party people" and it didn't rain - woohoo!
Fatal mistake though was going with a group of around 25 which proved to be a logistical nightmare to see the acts we wanted.
Fave bit were:
-Timo Maas (what the @!#$!)
-NuBreed and o my lordy when Phil K joined the boys for some dnb styled action the crowd went nuts
-the VIP underbelly route into the Renaissance room (once we found it it was a blessing to get into the main arena and not have to queue luckily)
-the inclusion of the Hard Breaks area proving that Melbourne does have a breaks following. This area was perfectly hosted outdoors and I don't think I saw more smiles than on this dancefloor
Not so good bits:
-I guess there's only so much court space available for dancing so unfortunately the queues were huge to get down onto the dance floor in the Rod Laver arena for the Renaissance room.
-Lack of interest for the Grand Slam House court which forced it to close and Ian Pooley to play his set in the Hard Breaks area (and considering he followed NuBreed and Phil K's dnb he didn't do too shabily at all)

i had a great time at Two Tribes....in fact I'd go so far as to say it was the best party I've been to!
regarding the lineup to get to the Renaissance floor, it was pretty full on during Timo's set, but it moved rather well during Dave's set. I thought it was actually a good idea to limit numbers to this area as there is nothing worse than a dance floor you can't dance on!! I was at the back of the arena during Timo's set and we danced in the aisles, between seats, on the walkways, wherever we could and everyone was happy!
Two tribez- was brilliant! Had one of the best Days. THe day concept really went down well with me considering I had uni at 10am Monday morning! and the venue worked really well (yes yes i was one of the sceptics who thought it wouldn't!) But all in all two tribez was one of the best produced parties i've been to in ages- the vibe was excellent.
Highlights:
* Sitting at the top of the stairs in the REnaissance Room watching Christopher Lawrence- and drooling over the lasers and the amazing visual concept of the room (oh and C.L's set!) that was the best set up i've seen except for the over conjested dance floor!
* Watching Nexus, Jeremy K (OMG it's Jeremy K!), Scott Alert and AJax throw some funky arse banging tunes around the place!
* Phil K fukn amazing! that breaks section held the grooves all day!
* Seeing CJ Bolland perform one amazing set with the enthusiasm that every DJ needs! and watching him mime the words with such conviction to "Follow Me".
* Hearing Digby open (while Will-e-Tell was stuck in traffic!) with "arse, titties, arse, titties,!"
* Gaetek!!!!!!! stomping to some of his awesome tribal banging tech.
* Yeh Yeh Timo Maas...
* AND YES YES OMG YES- Fergie.... He is God! Harder and Faster.. OMG YES YES...
OK i think you get my message.... "insert orange question mark here?" I had a ball- so thanks to all the DJ's listed above for making the party what is was (and i guess all the DJ's i didn't catch!) and to all the people who partied with me all day and made it even more fun.... *breathes* awesome. awesome.
How does the new venue compare to the ("best venue in Melbourne?") Victoria Docks?
Marcus... The Tennis Centre is 100 zillion times better than the docks... There is such a large capacity to do so much with this venue- as was proven on the day of Two Tribez- as far as I was concerned the docks was a somewhat dirty- overused- dull venue ... yes it had it's memories for everyone, myself included but the change in venue was well overdue and the tennis centre was brilliant. The different areas that can be used and the addition of some nice grass chilled area is always a positive thing. I was one of the sceptics that thought this "entertainment" venue wouldn't work- but much to my surprise it blew me away. I hope that the venue gets used a lot more for parties such as two tribez... Also the change from a night party to a day party (I'm presuming due to noise restrictions surrounding the Tennis Centre!) is quite refreshing... I was able to party for 12 hours to some of the best DJ's in the world (INCLuding OUR awesome MELBOURNE DJ's- yeh you guys own!) and still go home and sleep and get up for uni on Monday! (yeh yeh- don't these bastards believe in Public Holidays!?!) So yeh that is my perspective on the event! Brilliant....
How right are you!!
by the end of welcome 2001 I i hated the docks it was getting looking dull and dirty ,this maybe due to the set up at 2001 was a bit crap (im my humble opinion) and the fact that by 9am i was buggered and coming down (oops can i say that ;) ) either way the feeling that the docs was getting past its used by date was very present. And what a relief the tennis center was. It (the tennis center) was big lots of great areas and a fuc**** great sound system. Restricted acces to the dance floor inside was a bit of a downer during Timo, but we still danced away in the isles and rows, was glad to get down during Seams set , he whent OFF!!. The outside breaks area made for a mega cruisey atmosphere which was fantastic!. was kinda wierd seeing police walking around. and the only food they sold was this greassy @!#$, all i wanted was an apple!! (the fruit that is, oops can i say that too ;)) One real great thing that was probably unnoticed was the fact that they had water refill stations where you can refill your water for free!!! no it wasnt ice cold butt better than nothing. All in all I loved two tibes, the arena was great, few teething poblems but still great, the djs where AWESOME and the Atmosphere that was created by Melbournes dance community was very very positive, and thats what raves should be about, having a damn good time and letting/helping everyone around you do the same.
Take care & stay happy all :)
(the docks whats the docks? :))
