View Full Version : what music do you like?
Just what to know what kind fo music you ppl are in to? Were do you go and party? For meself I'm into psy trance I go almost to all the bush doofs love them they go off
For Me: music; electronic style- almost anything (barr a few sounds!)....
ALSO love my bands- Radiohead, Tori Amos, Counting Crows, U2 (Bono is God!), REM (the list goes on and on and on!). ALSO love my classical (and if you think this is dorky check out "William Orbits: Pieces for Modern Times" then repeat to me that it's dorky!) and Jazz music is bliss.
Where do i go? I would have to say my habitat is Hard Kandy on Friday's. Teryiarki occasionally on a Thursday night OR Soulaar occasionally @ Lounge, ALSO occasionally Filter @ Lounge... Saturday night's are mainly centered around parties e.g. Wet Musik, Pharmacies, Hardware's yada yada... and Sunday is rest with the small occasion of SONdayze @ Viper.... this all dependant on a certain variable of mood and work.

What kind of music am I into?
heh, lots. Techno, electronica, house - driving and handbag, breaks, ambient, acid, funk, dnb, trance, heaps of classical (love my Mozart) and all time amazing bands like Sonic Youth, Radiohead etc.
lately I've been more into dance music that has a definitive melody rather than say minimal tech.
Where do I go?
Revolver, @mosphere, Logic @ Seven, most of the big techno parties like Hardwares, outdoor bush doofs over the summer season, Respect is Burning (fabulous).
I want to check out Our House is Your House @ Salt and will be at the opening of Garden this weekend too - I'm a bit sick of the skanky dance scene we've had in Melbourne lately, time for something a bit more lush.
Well everyone here seems to be versatile. But what do you think is the most predominant sound in clubs in the city oif Melbourne, if there is one?...
That's a real hard question to answer Marcus- there are soo many clubs with so many varieties of music, but I'd have to say that the HardHouse/NRG sound has definatley infiltrated the surroundings quite predominantly ?? Anyone agree with me on that one?
*personal mental note* What am I doing it's 1:30am on Saturday night, Astral are playing and I'm writing on the forum.... while i'm meant to be getting through a wad of homework geez times are tough ....

I have to agree with you that NRG & Hard House (can anyone tell me the difference?) are the sounds of now, especially around this city of ours. You only have to look at clubs like HardKandy, BassStation and Atmosphere@Cage to see that.
However, like everything in life, the trend will change, and this time next year we will be talking about how XXXXX style of music has taken over the scene.
Personally I prefer my music a little softer. I love my funky house music, but for the best of nights, you can't go past a smooth flowing trance set to bring the crowd to its feet. There is something about those melodic beats and massive crescendos that get the crowd emotionally involved. IMHO it takes more skill to take the crowd "on a journey", starting slow and building the rhythm up, than to just play one hard banging tune after another.
(having said that, Frantic did rock on Friday night...although much time was spent in the side room where the music {and the overall feel} was a little softer {and friendlier})

> that NRG & Hard House (can anyone tell me the difference?) <
yep, hard house is up above 148 + Beats per minute, driving beats with sirens, hoovers etc, sampling old tunes sometimes, basically an offshoot of happy hardcore. Fergie, Nick Sentience, Lisa Lashes (Tripoli Trax, Nukleuz RED, Tidy Trax)
NRG in melbourne refers to 138-145 beats, big big buildups, drum rolls, heavy but not as fast, An offshoot of Trance, but Heavier and darker. Mauro Picotto, etc, (BXR italy, Nukleuz green, some Tripoli Trax)
:) Yes they are very different. very very very different :)
As for skill? well i don't want to have the "Journey" argument.
If i want a journey i'll catch a plane or read a book about catching a plane.
If i want to dance and go off all night, i want lots of hard banging tunes :)
cheers!

I'll listen to anything that appeals to me really, regardless of the style or genre. But dance music is the predominant one in my collection.
However, when I go out clubbing or raving, definitely hard house/NRG. Need it hard and fast so I can go nutso! :)
