View Full Version : Replacing buttons on hardware (CDN90 especially)

Greetin's...
My Numark CDN90 dual CD needs some TLC:

1) couple of the Reloop buttons often fire twice or not at all so need replacing... Are these easy to replace myself or should I be going to a professional repairer? If it's easy, where can I get replacement parts?

2) Sometimes it won't cue to the first track (actually to the first 3 or mins, regardless of track lengths) on one side... is this a sign the laser is dying? I've tried the recalibration several times. Another symptom of this (I think) is if a CD plays over - ie all the way through then starts at track 1 again) it randomly loops sections of the first few minutes. This can cause "interesting" effects - if it's on the beat it's cool but I've had a few train wrecks too!

3) One tray "snatches" ie doesn't always stay open for the requisite time, opens then closes immediately - can trap a CD halfway - yikes. Reinstalling the firmware didn't fix so I think it's a hardware issue. Knowing this I can work around it though, so not the priority.

I'm asking because I'm reluctant to spend too much on it - would prefer to put cash into an upgrade if it's going to be too costly...

Any tips much appreciated...

Yeah looks like it's time for a service. Just try to locate the numark distributor and ask where you can have it serviced. I cannot say what the price is going to be, but be sure to mention all the problems you have and request a quote.

Yeah they was time when everything could be fixed, but nowadays its throw and by a new one...

Cheers D1 - yeh done that - spoke to a very helpful guy at the workshop but am thinking that a) sending it away could take heaps of time and b) I could save a lot on labour if I can get the parts. I'm a 'puter tech so can handle a bit of dissembly etc... wondered if anyone had done this to their gear and how it turned out - did you wish you'd paid for a pro to look at it after all? Was it hard to source parts or are they generally off-the-shelf components?
Thanks again D1...

I have Denon, I needed some simple parts, fired the distributor and got same day response, got the parts, they were part for ouside the unit and not inside.
Usually distributor will have some parts and if not order them from the manufacturer, if they are parts that user can safely change even some shops will have them, but in your case don't think you will find them at your corner shop.

Sure I can solder a wire, replace a cross fader etc...but some stuff are better to be done by pros, one you can probably get some kind of warranty on they work, two they will know exactly what to do (Hopefully).

When you start to open a unit (With limited experience), you have to be ready to go to a point of no return, means that in the process you can F**** something out (That was fully working), then try to fix it, and mess something else again, and then end up with the hammer...he did happen to me a few times fortunately not expensive items, but lesson learnt I won't try the $5000 plasma.

Yes it might take a while, it might be costly, but the positive thing is, you are giving your unit a new life, and you don't end up with an hammered unit and brand new parts you could not even resell, plus you might get the work under some kind of warranty.

I am guessing you are second owner of the unit, and previous must have been mobile dj, in this case you will surely need lasers replaced and some services for things I would not even have a clue about...

Unfortunatelly sometimes it is cheaper to let go, and get some new stuff, it is the way it is like that now.

Good luck
