thought this might interest some people.. it seems there is now MAME for Xbox, bringing the oldskool games back to your TV. ill be giving it a whirl soon, but intial reports say it works quite nicely. a modchip is required of course.

Since when is a PC with a TV card ever going to be cheaper than an XBox?

re-read my last post fusion. i said get a card with tv out FOR your PC. i assume most people that post on here have PCs at home. a video card with tv out is a LOT cheaper than an xbox. & mame for the PC is FREE.

umm, i didnt intend this to become a MAME XBox VS MAME PC, however Nismo31 you assume too much.
i have an xbox w/chip. i dont have a pc with TV card. nor would i ever hook my PC up to my TV. hence its not cheaper (or practical). quite simple, really. its all about perspective.
and mame-X is free too, by the way.

how hard is it to pick up the case & keyboard etc & move it out next to your tv? is it really worth it to play on a TV screen anyway?
calibur - i know a couple of ppl with a PC, xbox & PS2.

cool, whatever. i get the feeling your just prolonging this discussion because your bored.. or maybe just argumentative by nature? im pretty sure youd leap at the opportunity if it existed for your Playstation.

Seriously? I only have laptops, but it'd be a right royal pain in the arse to do all that to have a quick bash on an old arcade game.

Of course it is. I have a 15" screen on my laptop and a 34" screen on my TV. You don't play on 17" monitors at the arcades do you?
What has been presented here is a cheap easy option to play old arcade games with the Xbox controller on a large screen. I fail to see why you think this isn't an attractive proposition.

Nismo has a good point.
You'll probably need a PC somewhere along the line to even download the MAME roms. (Unless they plan on bundling them and selling them....although this is a very nasty legal area...) If you're reading this website, chances are you already have a PC. If you even know what MAME is, chances are you're technically adept enough to hook your PC up to your TV.
Step one, plug tv-out into vcr.
Step two, change to AV channel on VCR.
Step three, change PC to tv-out mode.
If you own an Xbox then I'm sure you spooged at the title in this thread. For those of us not interested in forking out a couple of hundred for the Xbox, playing on your PC (or TV) is just as easy, if not easier.

wow Mike, how very intuitive of you :tripping:
hence the number of times ive said this thread was directed at Xbox owners, not jaded PC lovers like yourself. maybe ill make a new thread so you and Nismo wont feel so left out next time.. you can write to each other how cooool MAME for PC is and how great it is buying a TV card and the joys of moving your PC to your loungeroom everytime you want to play it on the TV.
geeeeeeezus.

My video card has tv-out. Most quality ones do.
I've already had a PC in the loungeroom for watching DiVX...
And my point is that for someone with a PC, and without an Xbox, cheap opportunities exist to play MAME on your TV if you want it on a big screen.
You crazy kids get fired up over everything.

and my point is people without an Xbox are completely irrelevant to this thread.
how about that, eh?

 haha i doubt it. why on earth would i want to go through the hassle of getting roms onto my playstation so i can play mame?? especially when i have a PC that's a ****load more powerful than a playstation.

you only have laptops? how easy is that to hook up to a TV? most laptops have TV & monitor outputs these days. i hope that somewhere in your vast technical genius you realise that laptops are designed for portability.
you keep biting & i'll keep casting em out.
