View Full Version : Where was your first photo used commerically?
I'm pretty happy as of this week I had a few of my photos used in a menu of a local pizza shop.
This is the first time any of my photos have been printed in a commerical type of basis.
I'm wondering when your first photo was printed commerically and where was it used.
Doesnt make you feel nice....
Cheers

Nice work, mate. :thumb:
Aside from a photo I took for a club flyer design about 8 years ago, my photos feature throughout each section of this Sydney-based web design business: http://www.translogik.com/
Thrill factor, for sure. :)

I've had one published in a photography book in America.
I had some of my printmaking work feature in some journals some years back.
I've also taken some shots for work.

I replaced my friend one week at Sounds taking the photos a few years back (2003 maybe?), and ended up doing all the photos for a page in Ministry's magazine that was dedicated to the punters of Sounds on Sunday. That was cool.
I've also contributed to the photos in the Herald earlier this year.
a snowboard camp brouchure in 05 i think. cool thread

There was a photo of me in Cosmopolitan Magazine in 2001.
But, to my knowledge, no photos I've actually taken have ever been used for anything exciting, ever.

Not quite commercially, but I was asked ages ago for use of one of my pics. When the Bill Henson hooha was on I did a walk past the Roslyn Oxley9 galleries. Macquarie Uni's Law Society have used it in their first edition of The Brief (http://www.muls.org/default.asp?page=Education/The+Brief/) for 2009 ;D

I had one from them also earlier this year, haven't gone back to check it out, was from botanic gardens, sydney.
theres nothing like getting your photo used commercially, especially the first one!
my first one was for that complex they were building on corner of toorak rd and tooronga rd.
it was used on the homepage for 3 months and they paid me $900 :D i was so wrapped!
here is a screenshot

I've also had a few go to Schmap (glebe festival..). Other than that, I haven't intentionally done anything for commercial purposes.
The Brisbane Times used my first one, the gig was for Monty's Chocolates in Paddington (awesome chocolate shop), pretty easy gig just shooting chocolates, and because we "contaminated" the sample stock we had to eat them all :P paid mainly in chocolates as well mmmmm...
However on a serious note, I really underestimated the demand for food photography... good area to stick with in my books.

ummm these guys (http://www.dhmd.de/neu/) contacted me to use this picture (http://www.flickr.com/photos/rockinoutruthy/3877032503/in/set-72157622079833869/) in their upcoming exhibition on "beauty"... probably one of my worst and uninspired shots but hey, its an exhibition in Germania!

Shot one wedding (does this count) as an assisstant to a very well regarded photog but not my cup of tea.
Took shots of a luxury apartment. Not that exciting.
Taken catwalk photos that were used for invitations to the opening of a boutqiue designers shop :) And then shop shots that were sent to daily telegraph. Bit more exciting.
Hopefully move into editorial but have a long way to go.
Despite having taken hundreds of AWESOME shots of naked young children over the years, not one gallery has allowed to display my work. Which is most dissapointing....
In all seriousness, does ITM count? Cos i'm doing my first "proper" shoot at Shrug tonight so pics will go up over the w/end at some point.

Yes Dubz. Def counts. It is kind of commercial in the sense that it is club promo and itm promo. (Best of luck by the way! :) )

I took a photo of the carpark in Berlin that was Hitler's bunker and it's being used by the History Channel in a new documentary about his life.
Just happened to fluke a shot with no tourists in the frame and the show's producer found it on my g/f's blog.. sheer luck!

I've just stuck my photo of a Jersey Cow into a poster I'm doing for a client. Does that count? :P
I'll head back to Phillip Island to take some more during summer so hopefully will get some better shots then.
I'm not a 'photographer', so it's still a milestone for me to be able to include my shots in my work.

First one ever used beyond me showing friends was back in Cali on a local surf forecasting site, it got me waaaaaaaaaaaay stoked.
http://web.me.com/wstruye/photography/Surfing.html#6
Then the first one I ever properly got paid for was a local streetpress mag (also in Cali). There was a massive swell that came in and they liked the shot that I got from it apparently. I got 25$ for it and then never cashed the check cause I was so proud of myself lol.
