Was wondering if anybody has checked out this new night at Salt. I went down for a few hours on Saturday and really enjoyed it. Salt is a great venue to hold a house night and with Sir Eric Powell playing, you can't go wrong.

Hey Everyone,

I thought I would do a search to see whether anyone had bothered to comment on Our House Is Your House at Salt Saturdays. I was really glad to see so many positive reactions from all of you out there. And thanks to everyone who enjoyed the cd. It took a lot of hard work and love to put that together at very short notice).I too think that the dj line-up is awesome (and getting better each week as we sort out our teething problems. Derek K is one of the hottest young djs doin' it right now. I checked out his set after i played on Saturday and he had the main room going nuts! I was particularly impressed that he snuk Blue Monday by New Order into his set and everyone loved it.

I was blown away at how good he is for 18 years and on 3 decks).

SO we are aware of the stuff we need to change to keep the night growing in a positive direction, (@!#$ even good friends of mine with invites got knocked back on opening night because they simply couldn't fit any more in there - it still made me unhappy). Many of the other teething problems are slowly being addressed.

I want to stress to all of you that everyone at the club is asolutely committed to presenting the kind of house night that derives its inspiration from the traditional house values of Family, Acceptance and Musical Diversity by and for the people who love it. The "60" or so promoters have now been whittled down to a handful of dedicated house freaks who want to get you down to what we all hope will be THE place on Saturdays. We are doing something different. We are celebrating that difference and as mentioned earlier, each week you'll see something new, hopefully wonderful and unexpected (decor, live performances, MUCH better door people, comfy booths to lounge in near the dancefloor in the main room, a WICKED website that I'll be redesigning and even a cosy nook hidden from the rest of the club for total privacy (to get down and dirty in whatever way you fancy)and it will be totally accessible to those who can find it!

Oh and the internationals we have lined up are going to make you realise that so many of the other so-called "legends" that you may have seen from overseas have been a total waste of time and a rip-off(if you hadn't already figured it out :-b).

Mateo and Matos from New York will be out on the 14th of April and belive me when i say they will rock your world. I saw a review of one of their sets in SF recently. They tore the place up for 6 hours non-stop. A fan wrote the review and he was being totally genuine over how amazing his night had been. Needless to say the whole house community will be coverging at Salt that night. Then there's Morales(I can take him or leave him), but then we have MARSHALL JEFFERSON (Oh My Lord!!) who i tried to see in new York last year to find the joint SOLD OUT, then oh man, in JUNE we present the DEEP VISION World Tour with Kings Of Tomorrow's SANDY RIVERA (who I did see, and was SICK) and he'll be joined LIVE by vocalist Lt Brown (who sang Come Into My Room ....by the way that is the music that was later used as the backing for Tracey In My Room by EBTG vs Soul Vision - Sandy's other production moniker), or Yvette Jones (new Deep Vision signing) to do a live PA as well!

Yes the crowd has been young and a source of some concern. They tend to leave around 5am and so far it has been difficult to get them to stay (mainly for the fact that so many new ears to house meant we were playing to alot of people who haven't been exposed to it for very long. I believe people's ears need to become attuned to house over some time to really get the deeper musicality, the loving intent behind the producers who create this music, and therefore realise its true power to nurture and expand the soul of its listeners)

BUT last Saturday night the 30th. WOW.

There's so much I want to say about just how awesome the night was. The side room especially was totally pumping (thankfully it was decided that I should play the 2-4 slot and it made a huge difference). So many old-school heads were there, and the new ones I met (Nick, Brad, Nina, Cathy, and all the others my then-addled brain tried to take in) were so into the music, and danced like devils on the floor. It was SO great to see people REALLY getting down and dancing freeform, being in the moment. From the time I started til the time I got off the decks I was beaming at how good the room felt. Honestly, I haven't felt that real "underground" vibe in a packed room with so many inspiring, weird-ass (in the best possible way), great-looking, up-for-it people in one room together for ages. And the ones that emerged from the dark corners to groove on down when I started dropping all my deep @!#$.........it was you especially that made my night. It gave me my faith back in melbourne, after feeling so long that i was just playing wallpaper music for people who either didn't care or couldn't be bothered to use their ears. It's something that has saddedned me for a long time, and it was heartwarming to see that change. THANKS!!!!

I wouldn't write all this stuff just because I work there. I'm writing this because I believe in what we're doing to such an extent that I want everyone to know that there is alot of planning going on behind the scenes to make the club work for YOU. We are on our way now, I can feel it, and nothing would make all of us who are trying to create the night happier than to see our dream come true. We have the beginnings of something special. It's a place that hopefully gives Melbourne an environment where house music lovers can get together and celebrate the music, build some frienships and after awhile hopefully feel like they've found a second home with some new family.

I could say so much more but I'd really love to hear your feedback instead.

One Love to all the Deepah Ones,

Have you had your House today?

P.S. If you would like to hear the Salt mixed cd I compiled for the opening night, you can check it out at one of my favourite listening sites www.khaimar.com in the Lounge Dj Booth

Hi Liz!

thanks for the post it's fantastic to hear that you're so passionate about the night and of course your house music (people she is the queen of house music in Melbourne!) I must have just missed you the other night, next time I'll make sure I head back into the side room before leaving.

Hopefully I'll see you there soon

Yes Liz, Good Luck with it all, it is your true passion that seems most inspiring and with passion like that the night can only start off on a good foot and get better. Congratulations and hopefully I'll be able to check it out sometime soon!

Take Care

in response to the enthusiastic praise of our house is shithouse at salt....

let me just say that the overzealous bouncers, snobbish surrounds and lousy music make it a night to forget. i am hearing story after story of people being refused entry to this nightclub simply for what the image they present, others being beaten within an inch of their life by bouncers and long queues despite a near empty club. i have two friends who promote for this event, and the behind the scenes stories i hear are not pleasant. cmon salt, are you trying to be like studio 54 was in the 80s? gimme a break...
