View Full Version : Best/fav fighting game eva???
There have been many fighting games come and go... most originated in the arcade, some were huge, some were not, but what do you think is the best series of Fighting Games ever? And Why?
Me, I choose the Virtua Fighter series, being a big Sega fan, these games revolutionised 3D fighting games. Was it the first ever 3D fighting game?... And the sequal was such a leap in graphical improvements its not funny. I never enjoyed Street Fighter, found it too hard, same with King Of Fighters... what do u think?
other : Mortal Kombat!
how did you leave that out?
Feck! I knew I forgot some, there's probably more I forgot. Edited the poll.... I rate MK as second favourite... so tastily violent... babalities and animalities were funny too. And they looked like real people!

the problem with mortal kombat was it's gameplay absolutely sucked ass. i never rated it very high because of that even tho i played it a fair bit (on the mega drive mostly).
for me it's street fighter & tekken. tekken 3 rocked
i always take gameplay over graphics.

mortal kombat. :)
oooh look! blood! spine! burnt to a cinder person!
these things are exciting when you're a kiddie.
Anyone that knows their fighting games, as in really,REALLY knows their fighting games know King Of Fighters cant be beat.
If you get the chance to watch two really talented players play, youll relise why this very true, but hardly-heard sentiment of mine is quite founded.
1. the juggles are the craziest youll ever see, much better than tekken tag or tekken 4
2.Its combo style, abilty to run, dodge, jump at various heights, do varying levels of supers and soforth make it much more intricate than Street Fighter, If Ryo took on kyo with their current powers, Kyo would run all up and down his ass.
There more reasons, but i couldnt be bothered.
Never really had the chance to see King of Fighters in action... or at least see good players play it (so hard that game!) so I wouldn't know, but am keen to see how good it is.
If there are any arcades in sydney that stock it, then head that way.
Ususally the best players that can show off the potential of this game are asian (not being stereotypical, just the way it is, KOF is way more popular in the east than here).
Anyway, its way worth the effort.
Oh, and if youre in Brisbane at some point, I'll give you a demo at it.

I think Virtua Fighter is by far the "best" series in terms of balance and depth, but DOA is easily the most fun to play with a friend.
Tekken is just a dial-a-combo, jerky juggle-fest.
streets of rage II on the Sega Megadrive

ok i now think i should get everyone thinking along the same lines as the question...
"Fighting game" in the question refers to street fighter 2 style beat the crap out of each other type game. ie two opponents in an arena.
Double Dragon, Final Fight & all the others are PLATFORM games in which you are required to beat the crap out of people / things.
If you wanna include all those types too then i change my vote to Double Dragon. used to finish it on one credit (20c!) ;)

Oh, you can't beat Street Fighter, can you??? I mean it was the ultimate beat 'em up with so many variations. Classic stuff, never could go another fighting game after Street Fighter.
