A message from the FRESH Crew.....
What is fresh?
FRESH is a night aimed at giving Melbourne's electronic/dance producers the opportunity to play out there OWN sounds whether it is live or off CD in a relaxed environment. FRESH presents one of the best environments for local talent to grow and help provide the vehicle and support that artists/producers need to get their music out there. FRESH is also for industry and punters alike who want to hear something different, and party at the same time.
Artist profiles and video interview and gig footage also available upon request.
::FRESH 31/03/01 Review::
Saturday 31/03/01
9 producers (7 of them live) took to Club UK for yet another round of Melbourne Underground Electronic action. The most number of live acts so far at FRESH and the array of gear was amazing. Another amazing feature were the live projections from VJ's OM and Edibleplastyc which were projected over the acts playing upstairs which will be a feature of FRESH from now on.
9 very solid sets were kicked off upstairs at 9.30pm with Burning Giraffe's (live) fat ambient sounds twisting it a little as they progressed setting the scene for newcomer to FRESH Doghowz,to take over the baton. Doghowz style varies from breaks to house, with some cool melodic stuff especially some of his house tunes. Next up another newcomer to FRESH and first ever gig for BB12 (live) with a set of faultless trance tunes. BB12 has made great inroads on MP3.com.au being a permanent Top 10 chart resident - good to see him out live for the first time. Llama King (live) followed next and spent 45 minutes pounding the senses with his bass heavy TECH flavoured signature with some mighty kick drums. Jhonus (live) followed on with another very cool set of progressive tunes with hints of house, trance and Techno worked to a T.
Meanwhile in the BASSment the action started at midnight with another FRESH newcomer Doof Nation (live). A wicked set of well tweaked prog house that got the room jumping setting it up nicely for Serotone (live) to bang out his brand of Slammin'Tech . Once again Serotone proved himself to be a "contender" as he played track after track of inspiring sounds. Psynapse took over and continued to pump the room with dark twisting psy-tech leaving it for FRESH favourites Northcore and BLAC to play the night out with lashings of dark acid tech.
Weekly Feature Artists
Over the past four weeks we have introduced a FRESH artist by way of a Feature. This week we will focus on two talented artists within the FRESH Collective. Llama King (Neil Goulding) and Serotone (Adrian Pistritto) will be performing LIVE this Friday night at @tmosphere in Melbourne. If you would like to get in contact with the any of the FRESH artists for an exclusive interview for your site then contact fresh@toyboxstudios.com.au or simply reply to this email.
2001 - The Year Of The Llama
Originally born in the UK, Llama King (Neil Goulding) has always had a passion for electronic music and bought his first synthesizer in the early 80's (a Sequential Circuits Pro-One which he still has).
Influences then included Kraftwerk, Jean Michelle Jarre, Tangerine Dream, Gary Numan and OMD. Early Acid House started the bug to produce dance music although it wasn't until 1996 that production started seriously with a Mac11CX and a Roland D20.
A commitment was made back then to produce dance music as a live act and over the last 3 years or so has seen a couple of name changes (Pro G, Spiral Effect) as he developed his own style finally settling on Llama King (LK). In that time LK has had about 25 gigs including FRESH, FLOAT (UK), EUPHORIA, MEET THE ALIEN, and SWINBURNE UNI amongst others. Llama King has also performed Live-to-Air on Melbourne's KISS 90FM 3 times, STREET FM and PULSE FM and has also been featured on KISS FM's Aussie Kiss Show. Interest from a UK label (Jammin' Records) plus use of his tracks for a Telstra Big Pond ad spurred Llama King to a full time commitment to production in late 1999
Llama King has developed a freeform approach to live production based around manipulation of pre- sequenced patterns on a Roland MC-505 groovebox triggering loops and sounds on a Yamaha A4000 sampler plus a filter bank and effects so each track can be played uniquely different each gig depending on mood and feel, but always with a twist. The current live set is heavily TECH influenced with hints of Hard Trance and Acid. Llama King also produces studio tracks which take on a more structured form and can be anything from Ambient to Bangin Techno.
Look out for "Eye of the Llama" Llama King coming soon. in the mean time.....

Feature Artist::Serotone
ADRIAN MARK PISTRITTO was born in Melbourne 31st of March, 1981. Since his early childhood he was interested in anything electronic, and music was certainly no exception. Whilst having an interest in some mainstream music, Adrian also followed the work of artists such as Jean Michael Jarre, whose awesome live shows and radical music were full of the very thing Adrian loved; electronics. At the young age of 9, Adrian began learning the piano, studying both modern and classical 'pianoforte' with ANZCA.
One day Adrian was introduced to a simple little computer program called 'MODEDIT', one of many programs known as trackers that turn a simple PC into a powerful sample based music workstation. It was through using this program that Adrian began experimenting with electronic music, creating his own sounds, crude as they were back then however still a start. Starting with these basic tunes and tools, Adrian gradually moved onto bigger and better things, finally sticking with impulse tracker.
Adrian began DJ'ing in 96, after meeting Robert Anthony, a young fellow with similar interests in music, and together they explored the various styles of electronica around at the time. In 1997 they joined forces in production for a short time and did some work under the alias of Nexus, which got airplay on Kiss 90 FM in Melbourne.
During the year of 98, Adrian pulled back a little from music, as he was in the process of studying his final year of VCE. The year's dedication towards schooling paid off, with a final rank of 88.65, however as a result the piano tuition was put on hold. With high school behind him, Adrian made his first serious step towards dance music production, with the purchase of some real gear at the end of 1998.
Throughout 1999, Adrian's taste for music developed into his own form of hard trance, and he worked his set into a mixture of emotional breaks, slamming beats and peaking buildups. Under the name of DayWalker, Adrian first played to a crowd at the Coburg Festa in late 1999, which proved to be a good experience for him, as not many of his friends had heard him play until then. His next major gig was at freestyle, a free outdoor rave party in early 2000 at the Malvern Skate Park. During this time Adrian had also begun experimenting with the minimal side of music, and also decided to change his alias to
Serotone.
Since then Adrian has played live at many events, some being Frantic Freeland 1, 2 and 3, Forbidenn 2, FACT, CodeRed(Dome Nightclub), Braincloud 1, Glow, Rave Odyssey NYE2000, Utopia 2(Palace Nightclub) with Oliver Lieb, Hardware Universe 2001(Kryal Castle), Planet Hardware Two Tribes Recovery 2001 (Chevron), and will also be playing at the upcoming Thomas Schumacher party on Easter Thursday. You can catch Adrian at his weekly resident spot at @mosphere (Cage Nightclub), one of Melbourne's most prominent underground clubs on a Friday night. He also has a fair amount of studio material up on www.mp3.com/serotone.
