you flash your high beams to the beat of the music,

gamblore
04-Oct-07, 09:10am
You emulate a scratch using your steering wheel.

You tap your brakes in time to the music so the person behind you knows what tempo the music is your listening to.

You tweak the bass knob on your car stereo to cut the bass then smash it back on to add excitement to a track.

When you spend your whole morning setting up your turntables/sound card/etc to record a mix instead of actually eating food. Man I'm hungry...MUST. FINNISH. MIX!

This x 100000, i will hold off food/girls/bodily functions while im having a good mix, goes for producing too :D

^^^ God I bet producing is even worse, totally falling into another world and being stuck there for hours tweaking shit up!

you realise that you anaylise music too much and judge other djs too harshly, then you realise you don't love clubbing as much as you used too, then you learn to unlearn, and once again here the music without judgement, and love it for what it is.

I soooooooooooooo get what you mean there! Or when you go out clubbing, you just wish it was you playing coz you'd be doing such a better job than the dude playing at the time!

That's the reason i got serious about mixing. I was just fed up with shit dj's.

Coupla years later not much has changed though.

Where do you guys go out??? I mean yea i have seen plenty of shit djs in mainstream clubs...

But my favourite clubs have residents that are usually fault free with well constructed sets.

p.s. Usually go to Family on fridays (brisbane), all the residents are good at what they do :D

turn the car off to cut the music off in time.

GUILTY ! ! !

you know your a dj when you're out at a club and you pick the next song the dj is dropping way before anyone else, then yell it out loud to watch all the chicks go OHH YOUR SOO AMAZING HOW DID YOU KNOW!

A few have been mentioned already, but...

...when you turn your air con dial off in the car like your switching off the bass.

...when you can pick what songs coming next in a club 2 minutes before it comes in, and you tell everyone, and then ask for high fives after youve guessed it correctly.

...pretending anything is the cue/play button (ie. i use the volume keys on the keyboards at work)

...when you realise you don't just go 'out' anymore, it's always to see someone play.

...when your out and have conversations with a mate similar to "such and such song would go in so great after this bar" etc.

...when you go out to a club and have no issue sitting down for 3 hours with another mate just to listen to the tunes.

...when you have an incredibly sore back =(

When you're on your computer listening to new tunes you've just downloaded and your house mate walks past and sees you bouncing around as if you're mixing, only to be sitting on a computer chair in front of a keyboard instead of a mixer.

- when you realise that slowly, the only people who you hang around all mix
-when pre-drinks at someone's house involves bringing a crate of beer, and a crate of tunes
- when your driving your car, and you start mixing the track live by fucking with the EQ's

Haha yes, very good. Heard Yolanda Be Cool - Afro Nuts (DCUP Remix) on the weekend and referred to it to my mate as that song on Cassians Mix before Classixx - I'll Get You and after Damn Arms - Destination (Cassian Remix).

When out of time beats really piss you off, for example yesterday
australia day, was in the park with mates and from one end some crew was cranking acdc, and then at the other end people were playing the hottest 100

all added up to one massive clusterfuck in my brain

you know you're a DJ when...

Wombats come up and request track 6 or was it 7 of Ministry, give them a blank look and they proceed to try and sing it for the next 10 minutes, "you know it, come on YOU KNOW IT!" (in between singing) till somebody recognizes the squawking and realizes that its a track from last year and 3 CDs ago!!!!!

When a hiphop dj/group you really like drops a top 40 electro house tune and you loose all respect for them and leave.
