View Full Version : it's the fashion police again
http://www.inthemix.com.au/p/np/viewnews.php?newsid=986547679,21391,
puhlease! :)
whilst melbourne is undoubtedly the fashion capital of australia, i took offence (it's an arrestable offence) at embellishment.
the whole punk rocker style is in now in australia, however it was taken very briefly, and now the initial offenders have shyed away from. Fendi was one big offender of this style.
Another six months and hopefully there will be no more bedazzler action anywhere. Wayne Cooper, please listen! :)
At the end of the day, disregard, wear what you like, be comfortable and have fun! Just no more diamantes on torn tshirts!

Is this a dance music website or a fashion victim rehab centre??
Who cares?

...oh would u relax glfront. if there are news pieces on fashion and how it ties with dance music culture on this website, it is open to discussion on these forums.

Pull your head in Drexciyan,
I totally agree with glfront - @!#$ this lame fashion conversation - this is supposed to be about the music - is this site to become another outlet for dance music culture that sells out and accepts any kind of crap as its content in the interest of securing more advertising/visitors etc?? The minute that something like this becomes commercially viable, it is doomed.
Start talking about something that relates to music, or talk about it elsewhere.

pull my head in hey? hahahahhaa oh you totally missed the point that i made, and if you knew me personally you would know what most of my conversations revolve around....MUSIC.....so why dont YOU pull your head in rivetting and step the fuk off.
Like i said before that you obviously didnt take note of, was that the inthemix provides everyone with interesting pieces of news articles whether it be directly or indirectly related to dance music culture. Thus leaving the topics that are covered in those news articles open to discussion in these forums.
Forums have topics and if you don't think you are interested in that topic well don't fuken read it.
comercially viable this, underground that, blah blah fuxn blah.....you can't change the inevitable.
out.
I'm not one to care for fashion, I admit that, sure I like to look respectable and/or attractive when I go out, but I just read that fashion article and found it's content to be one of the most conceited, shallow and vacuous things I've ever read. I'm obviously missing something because I don't get it: if you care so strongly about how you look, what you wear and how expensive it is, I don't understand why you are part of a "clubbing scene", you should possibly stay on the catwalk where the people there would actually care...
Sure clothes/fashion and clubs do mix, but the extent of that article seems so superfluous, and I don't see what it has to do with dance music and the dance music scene.

There's a whole lotta factors that go in the mix to make up inthemix.com.au (damn that one was clever! ;-) and music is obviously and undoubtedly the first and foremost. However, it's certainly not the only element.
If you don't like the fashion articles, don't read them. But there will be more, and it will get harder and harder to draw the link between the dance floor and the catwalk, so we'll probably stop trying to draw that link soon, it will just be out and out fashion. (*aaarrgggg, run for the hills all you trainspotters who think that fashion has no place inthemix*)
When I run for the hills, I wear my gucci loafers and my casual wear by Ermenigeldo Zegna....
Sorry Bro, but if this site was named inthesweatshop or inthepretentiousselfindulgenttosserswardrobe, I could dig it, but you guys have built this whole thing around the music and I really believe that's where it should stay.
Mike
It's all related, if you say otherwise it's cause you're naive.
It's all about the music, yeah, we've all heard it before.
Oh I'm sorry, it was NAIVE of me to think that it's not all related. Obviously my interest in the music is contrived, and I must be kidding myself when I think that fashion is not important to people who live for the music.
Clearly I must also be naive to assume that my opinion holds any value, it cannot I suppose, because it does not concur with your own.
Forgive me, O wise one - I will work harder to understand what this is really all about. Please guide me in my understanding of pop culture and forgive me for my interest in the music alone.
You're a nice and talented guy Mike, so I'll forgive you for that post!
I am just a little weary of purists, mainly because I used to be one, but also because they tend to see things from a warped perspective. Barking at an article relating to fashion and music is ridiculous. Music is a form of fashion, and the arts, both aural and visual alter the way we think and feel. People go to clubs and parties, they go to hear music, they get dressed in a way that they feel comfortable with, they dance, they take drugs, it's all part of the experience and therefore all relevant. People buy records, records have artwork on them, etc, etc.
Yes, music is the common denominator, yes it overwhelms all the other elements, but to say that music is *the* only thing is naive. Fashion is not totally divorced from music, I'm sure a certain hooded Ecko top would agree with me ;)
Oh... just realised something...
Mike, do you have your browser on flat or threaded view? I was originally replying to Rivetting, so none of it was directed at you... I thought the tone of your comments were odd...!
I think regardless of what music scene your into there will always be a related fashion to that scene, like it or not, talk about it or not, personaly i think fashion in the dance scene should reflect the attitude of dance culture and to me that is dress how the @!#$ you want, dance how the @!#$ you want and just have a good time and let evryone around you do the same! the second dance culture starts becoming a judgemental load of crap, is the second we have forgotten what it is all about, in my humble opinion any way.
take care all
keep dancing!!!! ;)
Tyson,
First of all, thanks for your well reasoned reply to my *shoot off at the mouth* response - you are right, I was under the impression that your remarks were directed at my post, rather than to rivetting, so please excuse me for the misunderstanding and for my sarcastic response - it is true that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.
I appreciate the way you explained your argument, I love it when people can genuinely show that they have thought it through when they comment upon things, and I believe that the end product of such a discussion should be that everyone has learned something - so cheers.
Nonetheless, while I do NOT consider myself a purist - if everyone was a purist, nothing would progress, and no-one would learn and develop their thinking - I still believe that music is what it's all about - I am not saying that fashion is not interesting to people, nor am I saying that fashion is not related to dance music, I was just expressing my opinion that inthemix was built around dance music - and always aspired to be THE source of dance music news, and I believe this should be its focus. I hoped that ITM could one day be an awesome outlet for the dance music community to aid the progression and education of that community - and that it would always be about music and music alone, because nothing else seems to be - ie street press, remix etc - I want to read about some white label that has everyone going spastic, not about what's the hottest looks for girls on the dancefloor. That's all.
Thanks again for clarifying your argument.

not very nice, even if you did think tyson was talking to you.

Which explains why I apologised!!
Why must you contribute your negative energy to a debate that you were not a part of?
The general rule for apologies should be that when someone has acknowledged that they are wrong, ie, APOLOGISED, accept that they are strong enough in character to have publicly stated their wrongness, and leave it be.
Your comment is neither valid nor appreciated.
*my two cents*
I think fashion is an inevitable part of the club/rave scene that we're in and whether we acknowledge the importance of it or not its always going to be there unless we all decide to go naked to doofs all of a sudden (which would be interesting to see but anyway- more to the point) I think there is polarity.....between those who give a @!#$ about what others think, wear gucci and go to Salt and those who dont give a @!#$, wear the clothes they make and go to raves. Its as plain as chalk and cheese and so we're debating about two seperate cultures.....I think farken let them wear their gucci and worry for all they fucking want....

Different cultures hey?
I can think of 2 certain Sydney based techno djs who take pride in what they wear. Whether it be Helmut Lang, Comme De Garcons or Gucci. If they like it, what's your issue.
Infact, there's one dj who's been seen from time to time cutting it up over 3 decks in Armani. Why? Cos he has a day job too. I don't think you'd see him wearing his finest to an outdoor doof, but all the same - if you want to look good, just do it. I know he doesn't give a rats arse about what others think, because people do take the the piss, and he just simply doesn't care.
What about Jeff Mills, commonly adorned in Ralph Lauren, Pringle and Armani.
You can look good in Armani, you can look good in Tsubi, you can look good in Levis. It's all about doing it right.
At the end of the day, what would you prefer your boys to be wearing - General Pants or Gucci. You tell me?
Also, I reckon yourself and a few others, if you stopped gobbling and putting the money in the bank, I wonder if you would reconsider your ability to purchase.
