View Full Version : Friction......Black Cat White Cat

DjAARON

Sounds a little strange right?

Friction is the name of a new friday night at Black Cat White Cat (on Gouger St above the Mars Bar).

The old heritage listed dance studio above the mars bar has been bought and done up into a farkin excelent looking club. I was up there one night this week, and was amazed at what I saw. High ceilings, large area, nice decor, a couple of pool tables, really nice sound system and good lighting

DJs - Remedy, Aaron, Lynton, Cheeky B, Amadeus and Chris D. We'll be playing a bit of everything, house, progressive, trance, and hard house.

So if you're looking for something new to do come down and create some Friction.

Free entry before 12. $8 after 12

All Vodka based drinks are 2 for the price of 1 all night.

It's only in the early stage too, I think it's going to grow into a very popular venue very quickly. Just wait till you see it.

< apparently im playing according to there ad's and flyers ..

You were supposed to play the opening night, didn't show up, and were contacted for confirmation that you would play the second week. This was done so that BCWC could print fliers with the DJs names on it. You said you'd definitely play, so your name went on the flier. Once again you didn't show up.

That's two weeks in a row!

They decided that it wasn't worth chasing you. Hence no more phone calls.

Or shoudl I just get there from 9pm and wait till it's my turn ?

theres a fraction to much friction yeah

Beekayz
29-Jun-02, 01:06pm
lol @ Amilne :D

Went by last night and I really like the venue.

Definitely needs a promoter though who knows what they're doing and can bring the potential to reality as at the moment the musical format is all over the place.

Sounds like an easy solution to the "fraction too much friction" as Amilne put it. When they put on a promotor who knows what they're doing, and if that promotor would like Odyssey to play, I'm sure that there will be no problems.

It all sound like miscommunication, which can happen when a new club is being set up by people not experienced in this field, rather than anyone intentionally trying to do the wrong thing. :)

Lotus

Is the promoter of this nite also the manager of Black Cat White Cat?

... this venue normally serves as an European-Style Cafana with live international music hence why the foray into a club nite may be a little rocky at first. With Aaron's involvement though i'm sure things will get off the ground.

oh and hi LOCSmiley - u feeling a little lost today??? ;)

Stimpy
29-Jun-02, 09:00pm
Well I checked it out last night, and I really like the place. Its quite classy the chill out area has some comfy lounges and the dance floor is killer.

The staff are also very friendly, however watch out for the far side and the little sign above the door that states NOT ADMITTANDCE. Unlucky for me it is that small I didnt even c it.

DJ Aaron played some killer trax, and I think a good night was enjoyed by all.

8-)

Lotus

Me no monkey, LOCSmiley - am dragon ;) A Virgo Dragon is an interesting combination and perhaps why I was given the title of "nasty as $#*& women's officer" at a recent AGM u attended :D

C U at BTM?

DjAARON
30-Jun-02, 02:36pm
Oddy..... Maybe you should have phoned them to find out. Communication is a 2 way street. Im sure you are a busy person, and don't have time to sit around all night waiting to play, but as they say...... the answer is only a phone call away.

LOC - I play a bit of everything if I get the chance ( not all in the same set ) My main style is trance, but I also love playing house and progressive.

Lotus - Thanks for the vote of confidence. Give us a few weeks and if all goes well we will have the place pumping!

Beekayz - Musical format?? What musical format?;) That's what we're going to sort out over the next couple of weeks.

Evening...er Morning all

Nice to meet you Oddy.

Sounds like this event could be a good replacement to the now defunct progressive night at RR. Now that I know about it I will endevour to see you all there next Friday.

DjAARON
01-Jul-02, 10:53am
Howdee Dorsai. That's what we are hoping. There is a lack of good entertainment on Friday nights, and Black Cat White cat has the capacity and set up to provide a great night for heaps of punters. At a guess I think it would hold 600 plus, and that's with seating for about 100. Without the seats I think it would hold 900 or so.

DjAARON

The venue was a dance studio before the current owners got it. I think the sleaze ball was held there one year.

Dorsai - you can also check out Fabric once a month at Skylab for your progressive fix. Next time is the Birthday so will be big!

But yeah, twas a shame that RR booted all it's promoters and DJs, but blessing in diguise, I think anyway, because even though Fabric's only once a month, the venue's a lot nicer and more friendly than RR was.

The things mentioned by people that were wrong with Friday nights at BCWC in this thread are about to be fixed, so stay tuned to ITM to hear about some BIIIG changes to the friday night format. Also look out for new flyers that should be out in the next week or so.

A promotion team has been enlisted to sort the night out, and things are already getting underway.

I don't want to say too much because things like the format of the night etc etc were only agreed on last night, and there are more meetings to be had before things are finalised.

Pity about RR, but trust me, the progressive scene in Adelaide is better off without it.

Greetings to all the other crew hanging around here. Good luck with the night, Aaron. Good to see some diversity in the crews promoting shows in this city.

DjAARON
02-Jul-02, 04:03pm
LOC - Am I bug man? Are you talkin about my avatar on the other forum? What sort of house? Commercial..... maybe. The line up will consist of mainly 'name' DJs, but the line up isn't 100% confirmed yet. We aren't going to be trying to 'educate the public' with boundary pushing music or anything like that. We just want everyone there to have fun.

DjAARON

That fire lighting was a joint effort Lotus! I cant take all the credit for it. But yes, everthing is under control.

I have revised my previous estimate on how many people would fit in the club aslo..... It is now 450 people with the seating there, and 600 without. The place always looks a little smaller the second time you go there. It's still f***n big though.

Pfft!!! :p ;) :p

Let's put it in the diary. Germany 2006. Well now that both teams automatically qualify, lets get behind the Socceroos and hope Soccer Australia make the most of this World Cup and find a way to stay solvent!

drwahwah
02-Jul-02, 06:44pm
Goatboy The winners no longer automatically qualify for the next fianls so the Socceroos could end up playing Brazil to qualify if Brazil plays as bad as it did in the qualifying matches.

The problem with Australia qaulifying is that they would probably play no better than Saudi Arabia did this time. At least Australia should make it to the final of the Rugby world cup next year even if the All Blacks decimate them in the final.

goatboy
02-Jul-02, 06:48pm
Ain't that a bitch! Oh well, could end up being a good thing with the squad having to stay competitive for 4 years instead of relying on automatic entry. Germany 2006 could end up being very exciting with many footballing powers havig something to prove next time around (Argentina, France, Italy, Spain, etc.) and a chance to see if the success of the smaller nations really was just a fluke.

i meant big man

i don;t just play deep house - that would go down real well at empire....not

i also play funky stuff - but suppose it isn;t always that commercial.

names, schnames.. get the young blood coming through...thats my opinion;D

DjAARON
03-Jul-02, 11:03am
Goatboy - Yeah it's licensed for around 450 people, but that's because of the fire escape. You have to go down stairs to get out, and the size of the license is limited by the size of the fire escape. The club would fit 600 people without a problem though.

LOC - It's fine to say "names, schnames....get the young blood coming through" but young blood do not pull crowds, and when you're trying to fill a 450 person venue on a friday every week it's not really a practical thing to say.
That's not to say that you'll never get to play, but first things first..... I need to get the night working. Then after it has settled and hopefully built a steady crowd we will have some guest DJs and stuff. You know what they say..... business before pleasure.

Getting the balcony sorted out is another thing that we are aiming for. I think it has been used before, but it would only be used in summer. I think the owners want to do something like the Heritage / Jimmy Rowe's has with the pull down plastic to enclose it for use in winter.:D

DjAARON
03-Jul-02, 03:39pm
pINc - We haven't decided anything yet, nor have we spoken to any of the current DJs, so I don't think it would be very nice for me to discuss their jobs with you before we discuss it with them.

DrWahWah - I should really start a separate topic, because the start of this one was when I had only seen the club very quickly, and had no say in the format of the night. That has changed, and so will the format.
If you are refering to the start of the thread when I said that the music format was house trance and maybe hard house (can't remember exactly what I wrote), then no, F***K NO, hard house would not work at BCWC on a weekly friday night. I don't want to give away too much just yet, but rest assured that there will be nothing hard about it. I'll keep you posted.

What I should have said was that the 'magic number' is 450ish, but I think what determines that number is the amount/size of fire exits, not the actual floor space. I don't think it would be over crowded at it's licenced capacity, unlike some other venues.

It's based... on floor space, toilets and fire exits...

Yeah, but at BCWC the only thing stopping it from having a larger license is the fire escape. There are more than enough toilets, and more than enough floor space, but the back fire exit is down a set of stairs which would need to be made larger for the licensed capacity to be made larger.
