Ok, so i've been downloading from beatport mostly, and the odd one or 2 from itunes.
been Dj'ing for a couple of months, house parties, etc..

To move to clubs, so i have to register or get a licence? or can i just go straight into the club scene knowing that i'm safe because i've paid for my downloads? whats the go with playing professionally your downloaded songs?

you would be suprised at the number of professional DJ's playing tracks they have ripped from soulseek etc. you will be fine.

however you might need to get an ABN so you can invoice the club for your sets, if they are willing to pay cash in hand, go for it!

you need to send in an application to APRA for you tattoo barcode ... APRA agents scan this when they check on you playing out in clubs

Um, it was my understanding that the clubs buy one big arse licence and the DJ's dont have to pay anything to APRA. But technically your supposed to fill out a playsheet.

Edit: Actually isn't it PPCA that looks after that shite???

Edit x 2:
PPCA FAQS:
I run a nightclub - isn't the DJ already covered?
If the nightclub is properly licensed, then any DJ working solely in that club or any other properly licensed club does not need to take out a separate licence in their own right. If, however, the DJ is either a mobile DJ operator or plays in unlicensed premises, then a separate DJ licence is required.

So as long as the venue is licenced the DJ doesn't need to have an music licence.

so if we set up an ilgeal party in a warehouse we should take out one of these licences :)
