View Full Version : Full Cut EQ's.... are they such a big deal?
Recenlty around various places i have been people talking about the DJM-800 not having full cut EQ's... but is it such a big deal?
I mean like if you have one song playing and turn the eq's down on the other track then you shouldn't really be able to hear anything because it would be muffled by the other track playing??
what are your thoughts on this?

its not really a big deal for me, as i have never used any mixers which has full cut EQs...i can mix things no problems at all

and most of the times i like riding two track togethers...no problems at all
worse comes to worse use the sweep effect...works sometimes as well depends on the track
i like having full cut eq's it gives you more control over your mix and 4 band eq's rule also due to having more control and sounds a lot better!

If you don't know any better I am sure you wouldn't care...but if you go the other way around it might be a big deal, really depends of your style...personnally is probably why I would go for a 92 as opposed to a 800...

I don't personally like full cut EQ's as I practically never mix from A to B with anyt level fully cut, or even cut all the way on a -24dB type mixer. And if I do want to completely cut the bass, I use the filters (xone 62... -24 or 26dB I think).
Xone92 with the full cut, a dial turning less than 180 degs to go from nothing to full tit is a very very sharp curve.

for me yes full cut eqs are a big deal - well not a big deal but I prefer them
much more control over hte mix, and when things are on a big system you really can notice the difference between say a -20db bass eq and a full cut bass eq

Fully...but I honestly prefer the sound of a mix from A to B which still retains some bass from the incoming track. Even at -20dB, there's still something there...mixing in a new track with Zero bass, then a 32 change bass line roll over etc just doesn't do it for me.
Still remember watching Pappa crank on the Xone 92 mixing from A to B with mostly full bass from each track...knows his tracks and the sound system so well he knew it'd work.

Yeah but at least if you have full cut eqs it gives you the option of cutting the frequency. More options means greater control over the mix and greater creativity. Each track and mix works in a different way so having the ability to fully cut when needed is awesome.

I was thinking about that as well but then again it would be a problem only if the beat was drifting or something... but in anycase if it would you'll hear it on the other frequencies...I don't know...are all the DJMs have the same type of eq (Not full cut)!!!
I just was wondering, I am not sure were I got this from, but is it true that on the 92 you could actually using an FX machine such as the KP or EFX, apply the effect only on one of the 4 eq's if you wanted to do so???

Not quite.. it's more that the returned signal can be eq'd because it has its own channel path on the Xones - so you can bring only the bass or the treble (or whatever) of the returned signal back into the overall sound output
This is distinct from the EFX or KP utilising its own onboard band-cut or isolator functions, which you can do when using those units hooked-up to any mixer

i use the eqs when just one track is playing as well, so you do notice it

That's right, I should have thought about that one, what an idiot, since I have kill switches that I use with all the time on a single track...I guess it would be hard to do these tricks with the 800...
