Seen a couple of people post about these... anyone used one??
This or a DJM800 will most likely be my next mixer...

Angus, there is a music shop called "Music Lab" in Bowen Hills just near the Royal Brisbane hospital. I went in there and this rad dude gave me a demo of one and they are fucking AWESOME! He had it hooked up just showing me how to use it as a DJ mixer, then had it hooked up to ableton and they are FUCKING amazing..... they also have them for a really really good price - my bro has bought alot of recording shit from there and they are pretty good to you if your nice to them.

Go in and have a chat to them - they store is awesome, full of mad synths and shite. And according to their website they have 3 Zero4's for $1799

I'd say go check that out before making your decision on an 800 / Zero4.

Check out the video on the bottom of that page - about half way through is the zero4 - shows how the eq's can be used as isolators, or filters or just normal eq's and running dual effects and stuff I'm in love with this mixer.

Here's another... I like the idea of the sampler as well (lacking in the 800...)

never used one, would love to though. looks like it could possibly be my next mixer, have to weigh up the pro's + cons with a xone 464 or what-not. It sure is rammed full of goodness. The interface looks a bit busy but as has been said it's a beast! wonder how much the zero8 costs - anyone have any ideas? i'm not too sure if 4 channels is enough for my needs. I'm sure i'd make do though :P
i really like the effects on every channel too, i'm always annoyed my current mixer doesn't have this. since it's traktor scratch certified it would mean i could get rid of a couple of midi interfaces which is always good :D and all the traktor effects and such would be a dream with all those lovely lovely midi knobs everywhere.
wonder how the cross fader goes :o

hrmmm.... wonder how the quality and faders are...

Is this the kind of mixer you would want to play out on but? I haven't used one before but looking at the photos and so on, it looks like an absolute bitch to mix with (small pots, eq's are bunched together etc)
If your an avid Live user then I guess its worth every penny but ;)

i disagree about it being an absolute bitch to mix with. i think it's setup pretty much perfectly for what i'd want it to do too anyway :D i guess if you wanted to play out on it you'd pretty much have to take it along which sucks, doubt any clubs will chuck 'em in (though i'm sure i'm wrong)

I am so keen for this mixer, i am saving for it at the moment.
Zero 4 + Kp3 = :stroke:
Check out this review Plan-b. One of the better ones i have been able to find on the Zero 4.

Clubs might not have them in - but I woudlnt be suprised if they start to appear on a few big names riders. I've played with one and seen it put to good use (didnt get to mix on it though - just fiddled) and its set out really well i dont know what people mean when they say "it'd be a bitch to mix on" about any mixer... ive used a fair few mixers from the little behringer / pioneer DJM300 rip off thing through to DJM600 / 800's DNX-1500's and alot inbetween and I wouldnt ever say any of them are a bitch to mix on. I think your a bitch if you think they are a bitch to mix on, just cause the eq's are small nobs and close together doesnt make mixing any harder or your performance any worse, and if it does then you just suck.... I heard someone in another thread say that Xone 92's are a bitch to mix on because of their eq's'

depends really... small knobs are over dramatised if the rest of the unit's quality... it'd be cool to really put alot of that technology to good use in DJ sets... but on the other hand, is it a bit over kill (I mean when the hell am I ever gonna need to plug a guitar into it??)

It's a very small trade off for the quality of the thing though..
it'll come down to the sound and build quality though I think :)

when you decide DJing is overated and start making your tracks :P
this is then a half way decent studio mixer that will feekin' smash it live.
become a pioneer hater angus, you know you want to.
actually you do make a good point... Pioneer's warranty support in the past has been less than satisfactory... (which is why I used to hate pioneer) :P

Well I've never used one - but they are such a popular mixer and are in so many clubs I dont see how they could be a 'bitch' to mix on. I am however aware of their sound quality.
I had a fiddle around on one of these the other day. the knobs didn't seem to small or bunched together for me.. layout was nice and ergonomic.
faders were nice and smooth.
this lot doesn't seem to happy with it...

I don't think it will be harder to mix with in a well lit home environment, however I can see issues compared to more 'club' orientated mixers (such as 600/800) which have larger pots and as stated in the other thread, easier to mix with when the 'conditions' get rough (dark club etc) due to the relatively straight forward layout (less is more sometimes)
However, if you are a keen Live user then there would be nothing better then this on the market (or perhaps a Xone3d? :))

Wicked mixer:thumb:
This has a lot more then the DJM 800 but i cant see it being a mixer that will be in a Club Venue yet. For a first time user it takes a bit to get use to but after a while its makes all other mixers seem a few steps behind in the market.
We have been selling a lot of them at DJ warehouse, and all purchases have been to people that want more out of a mixer.

^ Yeah - well im not a live user at all at the moment but might be one day and a Xone3d is definatly out of the quetion price wise. I think the family is probably the only 3d in bris cause they are just too expensive (prepares for the brisbane Xone3d collective to prove me wrong  ) .
I agree compared to a DJM or something with nice big rotary nobs it may look confusing (especially with two banks) but these are pretty well lit mixers for a dark environment and I think you'd get the hang of it pretty quick. At the same time, i do doubt many (if any) clubs will install these as the house mixer.

Family hasn't got a 3D :) Only a V6 and a few 92s.... Met and Empire's got them as well... and so do a few promoters

I have so seen a 3D in the booth at the family a couple of times! Could have just been special events (think PVD was using one) and others. Could just be bought in for events though I guess.
I've have had mine for not quite a week.
I needed:
a) a mixer
b) a soundcard for my mac and
c) a midi controller
So got all in one in the Zero4.
The basic operation of it is nice and smooth (eg sliders) and it is well laid out. Its well lit with LEDs so u can do your thang in a dark environment, no dramas.
I am really a beginner so i am only scratching the surface of its capabilities at the mo so that doesn't make me the best person to comment.
A coupla down sides:
- I could not make it talk to my PC at all via firewire (i'm using Vista :( ) but it plays very happily with my macbook.
- The budled version of Live6 LE does not support Mp3 - an absolutely ridiculous limitation IMO.
Its not cheap but i figure spending a bit more now means I won't be needing to upgrade ANY time soon.
+ it looks soooo HORN!!!

I just had a good look at these new mixers from Korg. I like them alot, I may consider buying one in the future for renting.
And by the way, you Sydney siders are lucky to have a store like DJ Warehouse, very nice shop indeed. I see alot of road trips with coinage coming in the future.
Those with 3D's you would find travel with them.
PVD does use a 3D but i would say its his and so does Deadmau5, 2020 Soundsystem and many others.
The Korg series of Zero mixers really are the next level of affordable feature packed PRO quality mixers.
I want a Zero 8 as it suits what i do a bit more than the 4 but if i was after a DJ mixer that would satisfy several functions, i.e midi integration and feature set. I would buy one of these over the 800.
The 800 is a great mixer, though pioneer still have a ways to go with certain things.
Korg are a pro audio company, they know their shit.

i'm not going to allow myself to read this thread anymore for fear of purchase. i'd get an 8 for sure but i am after more of a mobile live setup and i think it wouldn't be my favourite lugging an 8 around with me :)
Whoever mentioned musiclab before - Yep - best price ive seen so for, and they have it set up with ableton (unreal). Matt (i think is his name) can show you its full capabilities... Its a great mixer, really well thought out for production and mixing. This is the one to end all those "if i get this, then i'll need that too" dilemas

^Agreed - all of the guys in that store know their shit and are really helpful. Best music shop in bris IMO
Bump.
Quick question for those with Korg Zero4's, what EQ setting do you use to mix with? I flick between Zero EQ and Spiky atm, but unsettled on either.
