out of curiosity ... to the DJs posting here ... how many girls do hang out with that get behind the decks?
i just get this vision of house parties where the boys talk tunes and stroke each other's ego behind the decks while the token girlfriends sit in the corner drinking their bitch pop talking about what shoes they bought this week

Im in the process of getting my g/f's skills up.
At the risk of sounding like a complete drip its actually really cool sitting around with your g/f at home playing some tunes and enjoying something you both love together while having a couple of drinks and chillin out together.....only thing is beatmatching is made tricky when your having drunken sex on your dj table...
but it does look stupid when there is 3 chicks sat down sipping a drink in the back of the booth because they were so worried their boyfriend would go out and root a chick so they get their request.

BITCH POP? hahaha what the?
There aren't enough girl d.j.'s!! I know girls that like a lot of cool music and get along to a lot of gigs, but they just don't have that desire to d.j. or talk tunes all day. Not entirely sure why...:stroke:
I have my girly times, but i get more excited about a new release from one of my favourite djs/artists moreso than a new pair of shoes! :P And i tend to spend more money on music than clothes.
Was stoked to see a female dj as i walked into a club on the weekend...she was playing soulful house
^^^So I take it you DJ bis?

no, not a lesbian
and LMAC....I wouldn't call myself a d.j....i am learning though, very slowly....In the process of getting another turntable and mixer atm...
I'd be interested to know what type of reaction you've been getting with it all, from female friends, male friends etc.

haha well my friend let me borrow his mixer and other turntable for a bit. atm, my turntable is sitting on the living room floor doing nothing :(
reaction wise...most guy djs love to tell me how i should be djing...how to practise, tips etc, which kind of annoys me to be honest, i'd rather sort of figure it out for myself...most of the things they tell me, I've already clued onto anyway
Most girls go " oooooh coool" *blank stare* and that's it. A certain female dj who I look up to a lot was rather pleased to hear I was getting into it, which was really cool

People have been called DJ's with a lot less. E.g. An iPod.
I laughed at first too, but then I thought about it and just because he doesn't have 2 X 1210's and a DJM800 doesn't make him less of a DJ. If he can make it work, then go for it!

my progression of DJ gear was quite varied ... from making mixtapes ... to pushing both input channels on my amp and just dropping tracks... one had an old belt drive turntable .. the other a CD player i'd use the volume on to fade in and out ... then eventually got a mixer ... one shit CD player and one shitty belt drive deck ... eventually got another deck ... upgraded mixer ... then a couple of years ago i got some 1200s
but it was during that time i developed my collection ... and learnt about tracks selection and what i could get away with mixing with what i couldn't

Canberra has given birth to some pretty cool female DJs =)
Bexta (say wat u will of her now, she did have a hay day)
Artemis (now in Melb)
Xdream (now in Syd)
Eska (junglette!)
that's about all i can come up with off hand, but there's several girls in both my preferred genre scene, and others, that have more to do with the music than just drinking bitchpop in the corner lol

It's not surprising it's rather blokey in here...just look at the rations of guys to girls DJs out there...must be like 20+ male (wannbe)djs for every female.

why thank you, although that isn't my dj name. that came from a song from this lo fi indie one man band called the microphones, of all things...
my friend said my dj name should be palindrome since my name is one after all:
Anna

i meant dj palindrome not buriedinsnow silly.
palindromes are one of my favourite types of words and since your name is anna i don't think there is anything more fitting (that is why i said your dj name was all kinds of awesome)!
you could probably drop the dj bit though ;)
i think anything would sound hip-hop'y if you started with "yo yo yo ...." haha
anyway don't mind me
