Hey Guys,

Finally getting stuck into my DJM800 yet I know there has to be more effects that can be used.

I like to be creative in my mixes and want to get as much as I can out of besides the obvious of what I already know with the delay, echo, flanger etc.

Does anyone have any recommendations on where I can obtain hints and tips on how to use the different kind of effects?

Is there maybe something on youtube that has a demo and shows everything...kinda like a tutorial? :?

Cheers

Hey Cheeky,

youtube does have some pretty good clips. If you know someone who has a djm800 or Dj's out in a club using the 800, you could get them around to show you some hands-on tricks, that is if they are willing to do so.

I like using the echo with it assigned to the crossfader...this lets you cut bits of a song in but the echo still stays on once you've cut the track out. Good in breakdown and either using the up faders or crossfader to little snippets like a kick, or hat of a different track with it echoing out.

That was really badly explained but experiment and see!

I find I only use delay/rev delay/echo, and sometimes roll for more glitchy tracks. I've had the mixer for a while now and it takes a while to use the effects with a bit style!

I love delay!!! play with it at 1/1 1/2 2/1 and 3/4 if it has it.

I never used reverb much when I had a 600, but I feel it would really come in handy now, just reverb out of a song, kinda like a fancy fade out, then you can start a reprise or something.

Also, if you use echo, but run it right down to the smallest segment possible, it has this really cool noise. Then if you slowly dial the segment bigger it give you an evern cooler effect. Try this with the flange too.

There are heaps more but those are the ones I miss at the moment.

I want to master on doing build up's using the cdj1000 in loop mode.
All I need to do is grasp it and hold the track at the right time to then create a build up.

Do any of you guys do this often or have any hints and tips? :)

make sure uts on cdj mode
know your track
create the loop in A cue or hit cue in and cue out while holding the platter still, covering your buildup (if its a vocal) then hit cue out again when you want to end the build up or the drop kicks in and start spinning the platter anti clockwise then you could hit loop exit or
set the drop in cue B and hit Cue B

Good comments. I have one but haven't really played around too much. Now you all have inspired to go and turn music into noise for a while! ha ha

ok - there is a cool work around for getting things to hit when you want them to. Preset some hot cues on a CD where you want it to kick in, you can then go & create a big fuck of atmospheric build up using your effects & when you're ready to drop cut the effects & hit the hot cue at the same time & boom!

I've also created some of my own samples of white noise I use to filter (& delay) on a 3rd CDJ which can add another element to a mix

the roll effect is pretty cool but it sometimes over used by loads of DJs

1) Buy a KP3
2) Plug it into the send-return section of your DJM800
3) Flick the effects knob of your DJM800 to "Send/Return"
4) Read your KP3 manual
5) Put the colour effects section of your DJM800 to "filter"
6) Combine as necessary!
