Just bought myself an iKey after several ITmers on here suggesting it when I asked for a good recording advice for my mixes.

I have read the instructions about 14 times yet am continually having the same problems. By far the most frustrating thing about it is that you cannot tell if it is actually recording or not. There is no LCD screen so you just have to cross your fingers and start mixing.

The first few times I followed the instructions and no mix was recorded. The next time the mix recorded fine, but then after 40 minutes the error light came on and the recording stopped. My last two mixes, I thought I have been recording properly (the lights flashed 'on' to signal the start of the recording and I can adjust the sound level so the 'distortion' light is no longer on, but then the error light stays on the whole time and there is no mixon the USB when I eventually take it out.

The USB is empty (not full) and the batteries are brand new.

When it did record the sound quality was perfect, but I would like to know why people spoke so highly of it because it is a VERY badly designed device.

Merry Christmas BTW!

G'day Mate!

Hmm ... it's pretty bad to hear you've had all these problems... i actually only just got it working today, but that was due to the american DC adapter being faulty and needing to get a new one.
i've recorded a couple times just today and there doesn't seem to be any problems at all ... i find that it is a little bit touchy at times though. I wouldn't recomend batteries as i've had the same problem while testing it out ( the error light comes on and it freezes) , go to Dick Smith and by a power cord that's got an adustable volt meter ( you can make it 5v, 9v etc.) and it'll come with about 5 heads to fit all sockets, and i haven't had any troubles since.

Pretty much just plug the shit in, and when you press record all the lights will flash a couple times ( or at least once ). possiblitiy is that it's getting corrupted as well on to your usb device during trasnfer ... make sure after the recording you hold down the REC button untill all the lights flash a couple times, then you can eject the usb thing. erm ... i think that answered everything ... i apologise for seeming to lead you on a bum steer mate but so far it's pretty manageable for me ... Bad Luck perhaps ...
Gamblore, you said you had one, what's the scoop you had any issues??

Sorry bout the mouthfull ... hope it works when you try that shit out.
If you live in the Sydney area (and close to me =P ) i'd be happy to come look at it.

Cheers man, hope you had a good chrissy,

Marc

i have no empathy for people who buy consumer electronics that start with an "i"

Would you believe, apple didnt' make it and it has no affiliation with apple ... strange huh?

there's lots of things that start with an "i" that aren't made by Apple ... that's not strange ... it's unimaginative marketing to cash in on a recognised brand
