editing songs ? what do you mean editing ?
are you talking about wanting to produce your own tracks for mixing or creating remixes ?
cus thats a different ballpark all together than virtual dj.
what is it you want to do exactly ?

Is that all you have to do with that program, select two tunes and hit sync?

mate u need to get some other software
like logic, acid or protools
depends on how much you want to do with creating your remix, an idea of what you want to make is gonna help your progress move alot quicker
are you changing genre ? then there might be tempo changes to consider.
are you recording live instruments into it or adding new vocals ?
some of these things you might not even think of until your halfway done.
if ur gonna be bootleggin these then record ya vinyls into the software, cut up the different sections you like into clips, try keep in mind how many beats/bars your cutting out so that its in time
maybe find yourself a simple drum machine program to create a new beat
save all these as wav files and piece it together with the software
you can download demo/trial versions of them to see how you like it
if u find doing that isnt a problem then there are plenty of tutorials on more advanced use of the software.
Using complete DAW's to create your own sounds from different synths, create your own melodies, basslines etc..
let us know how you go.

I actually think acid is quite easy to use... it was the first program I'd ever used and thought it was quite cool. The beatmapper is a great tool for making mashups which you would be accustomed to with your sync button.
If you're board with what you're doing, maybe you should also try getting different software that will require you to match beats yourself...

err, do you mean edit/remix, or just mixing?
audiophiles post might be suitable for remix software - but as best i know you can do real beatmatch based mixing in virtual DJ, all you have to do is NOT hit that sync button or look at the BPM counter - just have a mix output and headphone cue output also (thus you'll probably need a better audio interface that is suitable for this..)

Are you Mac or PC based?
Remixing and producing requires a level of musical and notation knowledge (a song's key, tempo and typical 4/4 song structure etc.)
I've been doing Midi based producing and remixing for a couple of years, and currently use my Macbook with Cubase SX4 and Audacity to apply re-pitching and time-stretching, and use Garageband for the high-quality synths and effects, linking them via ReWire and Soundflower.
If you are on a budget I recommend using Garageband if you're are on a mac, it has enough features to create reasonable quality remixes and very easy to use.

If you want to do edits just learn acid and play around with that. A remix is a lot more work then i think you are willing to dedicate my friend, but edits are fun and easy and puts fresh individiual flavour into a song. So learn acid. its easy. It's just a plain old sequencer, and all production platforms have sequencers, so if you want to do this you will have to learn at some stage.
Mixxxxxxxing it up
