Im interested in buying a mixer for using Tracktor on my Mac.
What are the best mixers in terms of how close to using a set cdj's and mixer they come
and more specifically the mixer cue switch and overall responsiveness of the unit.(jog wheel ect)
cheers

u don't want a mixer then, cos mixers dont have jog wheels (except for the Allen and heaths) ...ur looking for a controller....
if u do want a mixer to use with tractor, evo5 by ecler is the way...
if ur looking for a controller, then there are lots around like the behringer bcd 3000 etc etc..
either way, ur never going to replicate the feeling of mixing on 2 cdj's and a mixer sorry... u have to have the real stuff to be able to replicate the experience...

the midi controller/mixer allan and heath put in the market has jog wheels, not the mixers. none of their mixer range have jog wheels. they also cost $4k and Ive not heard someone use this yet

why? that's a pretty stupid comment to make if the guy is buying traktor scratch to then buy a mixer which has an onboard sound card
....
the simplest way to have a non completely shit setup is to buy the M-audio exponent... check out some reviews. I can't remember off hand if it has an internal soundcard (this is where you do research) but it should have one and come with torq which is a good DJ software as well, why do you specifically want scratch?
BCD will fall apart on you, but if you want shits and giggles, knock yourself out.
maybe do a little more research and come back yeah.

haha
Um.. the " T " mate:lol:
well i decided to do some more research into this as i was interested.
the 1D does infact seem to be an option for traktor.... a limited very expensive option, but one none the less.
I'll get my coat and eat my hat on the way out :P

The 1d isn't a mixer though.... so you were on the right track. It's only a midi controller so it doesn't have a headphone jack or any monitoring capabilities.
soundcard is traktor scratch... see post 2 re: evo 5... you don't need 2 soundcards.
I've never tested to see what the headphone jack on TS does when using midi only nor do i need to find out since i have turntables ^_^
anyway fuck you cunts, I'm off to bed.

a. The "s" at the end of allen and heath was meant for the xone 3d ...does not apply to the rest of the range..i am aware of the 1d and 2d controller as well.. he said mixer hence i pointed to the allen and heaths..i naturally assumed that he will do more research on the topic so i pointed him in the wrong direction.. although i will still maintain tht he will still not be able to fully replicate the full feel of 2 cdj's.. but he will be able to do lots of similar stuff (and perhaps more) ....
b. He never specified if he was using le or scratch with/without the interface..so i guess i was wrong to assume that he was using just the software itself ( as a lot of people do) ..hence the recommendation for the evo 5...

Hey JKirkwood
my recommendation for a good controller to connect with any mixing software
would be the Vestax VCI-100
Its metal, its built well and strong
comes with presets for traktor etc
works with pc or mac
has jog wheels
EQ & loop controls etc
ah fuck it just read about it HERE (http://www.storedj.com.au/products/product.php?id=1383)
i almost bought one of these for a controller but i bought a korg zero4 mixer instead
enjoy.

all the advice is good
just to clear things up,
i am just looking for the best controller for tracktor
ie the bcd 3000, vci-100
i realy only want to hear from people who have used/ own a unit.
there's always alot of hear say about behringer.
sorry dee jay mikey (cool dj name maaaaan) and bracko about the C
you guys sound like cool guys with real lives.

I have a bcd3000 and use it with traktor. Its a lot of fun but i wouldn't really consider it a serious piece of equipment. I was advised not to get the vestax controller, and ontop of that it will cost a lot more to get up and running. You'll need a sound card and software to use it with if you purchase the vestax.
I was also informed that the vci has a number of bugs when it came to running traktor.
I've never used the vci-100 so i can't confirm what i was told, but IMHO the behringer is by far the best bang for your buck, which is why i got it.

mate find yourself a local dj gear store who have these things setup so you can try yourself.
like you said you hear alot of 'hear say' about behringer, ppl who already own the item
are most of the time gonna be biased towards already.
on that note about behringer products, Daft Punk use behringer midi controllers :daftpunk:
kinda gives ya mixed impressions about the brand if your local DJ friends say theyre shit
me, i own a behringer amp and speakers meh im not daft punk but they do me fine at home
and also my mates had a behringer mixer for 3 years now. (i fucken hate the thing though lol)
one would think that after a while you might not even be using the midi controller surface
rather a higher end mixer with midi capability and/or other midi controllers or serato/traktor/final scratch vynil or cds..
you might not be able to or even want to always carry your midi controller & laptop with ya (can be expensive shit to get stolen)
but i dont know what your planning to achieve so just go check these products out yourself
you have a few suggestions there and browsing through storedj and djwarehouse's websites are a great way to get yourself aware of what products are available to you
Make the choice yourself, you will feel happier for it and too become part of the biased massif
(ah yeah and of course youtube has got demo videos on a whole heap of different DJ gear)
you guys sound like cool guys with real lives.
this is why I'm a sarcastic tool to n00bs these days.

i have (well still) use a BCD3000.
if you have the money to spend more...then DO.
it works, its fun, but there are some real niggling things beginning to give me the shits, such as a random 'scratch' button that a) doesnt work and b) crashes the BCD
the fact that the unit doesn't light up the kill switches when they are on, i have got cought a few times, with high kills being on and not realising for a few songs (yes, that probably says something about my hearing as well).
Also, i have previously stood by its on board sound card, but when connected to a big speaker system the gains on it seem to totally be out of whack, and its quite difficult to set a nice output vol set. (either that, or its something to do with the gains in traktor?)
So in conclusion if you want the 'best' dont go near if, if (like me) you only have 250 to spend, then you wont put a bad dollar down with it
i think now i would go with the vestax, and dont know why Lloyd would say to steer clear of them?
