Is it just me or do quartz locks really annoy the crappola out of you? Oft be the time that I have mixed a nigh perfect mix, yet to be foiled by the pitch controller being set to 33 1/3 rpm over a good +-2% range of the little slider. Is there an easy and safe way of disabling this "feature" found on most technics and other similar decks? Any suggested workarounds? My turntables are Numark TT-1910s if that means anything to ya'll.
Thanks,
Dan

You just have to get used to it. All the 'industry standard' Technics decks out there in club land have it, so you really just need to learn to mix your tunes together keeping away from the green light/pitch lock out area, it's not too hard to just shift the pitch/speed up/down on one or both turntables when you find yourself in the green light/pitch lock out area, and yeah the speed/pitch does really strange things around that area. The new Technics mk III don't have the pitch lock out if you are interested.
Ladies and Gents (and ITMers,) the one, the only, Dan Marshall... take a bow, you sick c***.
/me points @ Dan. You should hear this kid mix.
ladies gents, itm, the one, the other, the not the same dan marshall as I'm thinking of. take a bow. I don't even know who you are...

If you be Dan from Cairns, you have three options.
1. Get used to it.
2. Get an exploded diagram of the internals of your dex and perform some major surgery. (not advised)
3. Upgrade to the Technics MK3D or Vestax PDX2000.
and practice practice practice.:) :D ;D :p :P

i dont think its a quartz lock you are referring to.
thats would be the new feature on the mk3.
you talking about the 'evil locking mechanism' associated with the green light on the 1200 mk1, 2??
i think so
I have been informed by someone in the know that there is no actual lock, just a little ball bearing under the pitch slider.
go digging

*** There is a way to remove the quartz lock ***
A little bit of tweaking to the circuit and the range can be changed to just about whatever you want. Just need to find people with some electronic engineering knowledge ie, me.

You just need to remove that annoying ball-bearing I thought - I remember seeing a detailed instruction guide on the interweb a while back.
yeah, it's not that hard when your dad is in charge of a mechanical workshop :D
remove the pitch and take out a small bush that is notched and either solder it so it's round or buy a new one for a few $$

The new Technics mk III don't have the pitch lock out if you are interested.I think you meant to say the SL1200M3D, not the SL1200MK3 which is a totally different turntable.
The SL1200MK3 was the only BLACK SL1200 to be released and was a Japanese market 100V only model. Released around 1990 it essentially is just a black SL1200MK2 with slightly different RCA cord which were gold plated. I have ever only seen one pair which I repaired in 2000 for a customer who had been using them whilst living in Japan and brought them over and plugged them straight into 240v ( BANG! ). These models only had a production run of 18mths and were discontinued.
The SL1200M3D is not new either, being released in 1999 it was the first 1200 to have a quartz locked pitch through the entire pitch range. These were also discontinued less than two years after their introduction.
The only models currently getting churned out in production are:
SL1200/1210MK5
SL1200/1210MK5G(Jap)/SL1200/1210M5G(Export)
SL1200GLD (30th Anniversary Limited Edition)
I don't undertstand the need for disengaging the quartz lock on an SL1200MK2? I think a pitch out of tolerance is more of a piss off.
guys problem solved in 2 min with a screwdriver and a pin!
just take the platter off, unscrew the black cover, the disconnect the pitch fader plug, use a pin and reverse the brown and yellow wire.
that will get rid of the lock but you will still have the "click" in the center of the fader. if that thing pisses you off (which does for me) ya haveto take the whole bass of the deck off and de solder the fader from the board and take the fader apart and remove the little ball bearing. takes me about 30 min.
done and dusted
