View Full Version : Record Player
I am looking at buying just a single deck, as i want to start collecting some records. Not going over the top but you know, some decent tunes that i want to keep.
Don't really want to fork out a shit load of coin for a DJ deck, when i am not DJing on it.
Not really sure where i should be looking if i just wanted to buy a plane record player?
Or should i buy a cheap DJ deck or something? I dunno

eBay ?
direct drive (not belt drive) is preferable
the stylus you put on the turntable is going to be equally as important as the deck itself when it comes to just playing records
I was considering the
Vestax Handy Trax
Don't know if you can replace the stylus on it but, seems stupid if you can't

Anyone used or own one?

Are you gonna be carrying it around?
You could always buy second hand STANTON brands, like STR8-50,60,80 etc...

a mate of mine has a handy trax.
DO NOT buy one of them... what do you need a portable player for? Oh yeah , nothing!
and you can't change the cartridge - you can replace the stylus with their replacement stylii, but not with a better cart, so there's little point.
Once again, a S/H 1200 is only around $300-$350 or so nowadays... or you can get something
Vestax PDX-2000s for a little less (maybe $250?)
if you want cheap stuff there's the stanton st-30, 50, 60 etc... there's also citronic and omnitronic (probably along similar lines to the cheaper stantons in terms of quality)
You can buy a non DJ deck, but i don't think you'll be doing yourself any favours
^^ lol, straight to the point.... :-) i like it
cheers dude, will be looking into this further :-D

Hmmm maybe i should sell my Str8-80...
If you are just buying to let it play, non DJ turntables, JB Hi-Fi got them.
