View Full Version : Roland Synths - Alpha Juno 1 vs JV80

Did a quick search and pulled up nothing.

Which was the better of these two synths?

I'm looking at purchasing either, but know absolutely nothing about synths. I have a few soft synths like Albino and Blue + a roland SH-32 which I haven't really got to play with yet. I'm looking to buy one as an old crappy synth on its own - but also to control my SH-32 (I figured better to get another hard synth to control it than paying a similar amount for a USB/Midi controller)

Help is always appreciated.

As far as classics go, the Alpha Juno 1 is it, compared to the bland ROMpler status of the JV 80.

Having said that, if hoover rave horns aren't your thing, the JV80 might be where it's at.

Personally, if I was thinking hardware synths, I'd be going hands-on knobs and sliders, and the AJ1 is hardly that, and the JV80 doesn't fair to much better.

Hmmm.... decisions decisions.

WTF indeed

I also just realised that I posted this in here - it was meant to go in 'The Music Studio'.

I'm basically in the position where I need a controller for my SH-32... and I was looking at an M-audio Axiom or Novation Remote SL but I can pick up these synths for cheap and I'm more of a have it in front of me and touch it than use softsynths..... having said that I can't afford a Juno 6 or SH-101 at this stage.

And the Alpha Juno 1 and JV80 are at the moment cheaper than the M-audio or Novation + I get the bonus that they do make sounds themselves (albeit shitty ones) and they can make my SH-32 dance.

Ideally I would like something with nobs and sliders aka Juno 6 SH-101 or jp 8000 but price is a factor.

So does anyone own a Alpha Juno 1 or JV80 that can tell me more?:zabiela:

The Alpha Juno is a rave beast, but different to Juno 6/60/106 synths.

It's digitally programmed with a jog wheel and sounds quite different to the older Junos. Built-in midi too.

Classic patches like 'mentasm' and 'machines' if you're a Joey Beltram fan ;) The one-key chorus feature is cool too.
