well it depends on what kind of max you want... do you want max power? or just max mixing? or do you want to be able to do a mix power max mixes?

download a demo of both... easy, fast, free.

have a mix..

see which one you like.

Traktor is great because you mix just like you do on decks but ableton is so powerful its not funny! Traktor you can just throw tracks into it and have a mix easy done where as ableton you need to learn the software, warp your tracks and setup yourself a dj template if you want to mix. And btw without any sort of controller live mixing will be a nightmare in both.

i use both at the same time quite often - give that a crack and get another midi controller to compliment your 3d.

if you want to muck around with the sound heaps and really tweak it and aim towards more of a life show then get ableton, if you want to just mix tracks and enjoy some decent onboard effects as well as having the control of vinyl get traktor scratch and upgrade to traktor 3, this way you can have 4 time-code controlled decks playing at once etc.

but yeah to take it to the 'maximum' use both

i'd like to be able to take both to the maximum at the same time, but unfortunately traktor doesn't roll that way.

ps: maximum

pps: wut?

If you want to se someone use traktor scratch good, look up Richie Hawtin

Traktor scratch is sick.

Depends but, if you wanna be a laptop DJ and just do it off the laptop, and a midi controller..... go ableton

if you still wanna DJ, Traktor

Just got my BCR 2000, its a cheapie but a goodie. Spent hours programming the thing and making my ableton template, now everything is so fresh and easy

ableton = xone3D or other production software

traktor = 2 turntables and whatever mixer your heart desires.

using xone 3D to control traktor is like using nuclear fusion to heat up your cup of coffee.

anything actually constructive to add?

I'll assume you believe using a 8 channel midi mixer + 4 channel analogue mixer is a great choice for a (realistically) 2 channel DVS system.... at the convienent price of $4000 AUD.

i never mentioned using additional midi input was not part of the question. I'm currently scoping out what would be best for traktor to control the effects and looping myself.

anything constructive to add? does my constructive-ness need to relay on facts or can i just follow suit :P

as far as your traktor midi mapping goes, you don't by any chance have a trigger finger do you? if you do let me know and i'll upload my TKS file (was gonna start a thread on TKS files but this'll do!) that is mapped out like such (and easily tweaked):

the 'jump' buttons are just place-holders as i use up to 4 decks with traktor, so they're redundant.
'a' and 'b' are the loop lengths
top 4 knobs control fx1
bottom 4 knobs control fx2

i'm sure you could also get an idea of how to best setup the xone3D. definitely not the way i'd go but it sounds like they already have one

so....

good work Elfinho, good work indeed. how unusual someone new starts a thread and then buggers off.
