Word of advice. Don't plan your set coz if 1/2 way thru it and folk are not feeling it then u could find urself in a little pickle of a jam. Read the crowd, see how they react to certain grooves (which is a skill in itself) and go from there.
Apart from that tho ur set list looks quite large and could work if the crowd is up for the prog bombs u have listed

thanks for the advice fergus.
yeahh well thats my problem. i'm into prog/minimal/techno.
but the rest of sydney is into f*cking electro. and it gives me the shits. so ok where abouts would these tracks go down well with the crowd?

i wouldn't say the rest of sydney. plenty of places are into the same you are, they just don't get plastered to telegraph poles.

For some reason, sets that I plan never go as well, as sets that I make up on the fly. Dunno why, but I refuse to plan sets anymore. Just pack a bit of variety in your crate and keep playing stuff that is similar to what the crowd responds to.

true. im thinking they would go down well at civic underground. any hints on other places?
it'd be god to hear music like this when i go out to.

^^^ I conformed to like tech-trance whilst having the ulterior motive of pushing techno. :thumb:

if you're after gigs, just get out to your favourite nights as much as possible (the smaller ones, not the massive parties) and start networking.

i assume you're posting the setlist as a guise to see what clubs would be interested in a promo with those tracks on it?

answer, none if they can't put a face to a CD and a doorlist to a set.

but really i was just seeing if there was a desire from the masses for this type of music out there in sydney.
got at least a year ahead of me before i can start to gig :P

And while everyone else debates the insurmountable differnces between minimal techno and electro, spare a thought for those of us who feel left out because NO ONE (save a very few fringe culture dwellers) plays a significant quantity of EBM, industrial rock, powernoise and futurepop.

Could work I guess.

Your set is in an interesting order though, tech, prob, tech, electro, minimal and prog?

Not advising that anything is wrong with it but If I where you I would just plan your first track or two tops and your last track or two and mix it on the fly.

I started playing in clubs a few months ago and used to plan my sets for the first couple of weeks and I was always struggling and nervous.

On the fly is awesome!!!

There's quite a few parties that play, or at least appreciate, that kinda music...

Laundry
Sweet Chilli
Subservice (I'd say give me a demo for it but I don't run it anymore so that won't help, but I believe it's still going)
Deep As Fuck
Lost Baggage
Diversity

Might be just me but I tend to rate a set on what it sounds like rather than what it looks like

Plus if you play it in a demo mix, you listen to it and you know which tunes work together well, so then you do those automatically when you play out.

Huh? Since when?

yeps, i don't really care if people know all the tunes (and indeed if you are playing 'underground' styles - the listeners won't too much either - a good tune is a good tune) - flow is what matters, above all

I left after April man. Just decided I wanted to do my own thing for a while, and was starting to feel like I was pushing shit up hill with it cos of the over-zealous start with big name guests which lead to us trying to keep up something we couldn't. Starting up a new night soon though :)
