ive managed to confuse myself again, if i go and buy a cdj400, plug it into a usb port on my laptop, load up serato, will i get the serato output coming out of the RCA jacks on the CDJ400?

im starting to think this step over to digital is a little too confusing. :rainman:

UMMM????what? Serato runs through its soundcard, so you have to run it through that and then into the mixer/cd player....So no, you have to plug the serato soundcard into the USB, then everything else into the soundcard

I read somewhere that the latest version of serato does not yet support the CDJ400s. It was meant to, but they had some problem implementing it.

^ I am referring to the direct USB connection. You can still always use the timecoded CDs.

i do believe with the cdj400's you can use serato/tracktor without the sound card.
just trying to find out were the output would be, unless i was informed wrongly

You need the Serato control box. You plug USB from CDJ into your laptop and flick the CDJ mode to PC (top left hand side from memory). Your CDJ is now a midi controller for Serato.

However, I have a Macbook Pro and have downloaded Serato 1.8.2 (i think) beta upgrade and can confirm that there is still no native support for CDJ400 when using Macbook Pro. You need 3 usb ports on your laptop for it to work properly. Macbook Pro has 2 only and won't work through a hub.

Err... yeah, isn't that what I said yesterday?

Err whatever....

What I was saying is that if you have the beta version (free download from Serato) you can use the CDJ400 as a midi controller (without programming it) as long as you have 3 usb ports which Macbook Pro does not.

High horse? Where? Got a youtube link?

Geez fellas... keep your pretty little panties on. You ask a question on this forum and you get slammed.

I was struggling to see what was the difference in what mad rooster said and what I said. As far as I was aware, no new version or patches have been released that might have added support.

just got my 400's and want to hook it up to traktor.

I'm fairly new to all this midi stuff and I want to be able to:
Drag files from lappy onto each deck (through traktor)
Keep the master output and control through my mixer (DXM06)
So basically all the laptop connection is for is to drag files onto the deck and see the waveform etc (I realise I have to map traktor, I've already found a mapping file)

Is this doable?

What's the point though? Why don't you save yourself $600 odd dollars buy 1000 blank cds and spend the rest on beatport? Is there any advantage to having both Serato and CDJs or wouldn't it be more beneficial to use Serato with Vinyl ie the best of both worlds?

yes and no.

I use cds with cdj's and after watching my mates hook up serato to my cdj's it kicks but.

You dont have flick through a bunch of cd's, you can set up your crates and view all your tracks at once instead of having to flick through cd wallets.

Dont get me wrong though, I still love cds :zabiela:

Hey rileya,

Ive got the 400s as well.
Also considering doing what you've done. I dled TRaktor 3 and it's pretty neat!

Are you happy with it? What laptop are you using? How are the CDJs as far as midi mapping goes?

:D

Got an Asus laptop mate, it seemed to work fairly well with traktor but I only bothered putting one deck on it, ive kinda put that project on the back burner for now...im still figuring out whats the best way to organise my music because I can not be fucked burning all my tracks to cd

When I had it hooked up as a midi controller it seemed pretty responsive, but as I said I didn't take the time to set it up good and proper so I couldn't tell you if everything works fine.

As for the jog wheel it has nothing on a 1000 or 800 (its about the size of a cd) but for what im using it for (a bedroom only) its adequate and does the job.
