I was lucky enough to have a little play in a nice little bar in sydney that has a all stanton set up.....and basically had the worst hour of djing i've ever had.

They had 2 x C314 cd players, M304 mixer and 2 x T120 turnies.

The cd player pitch control was overly touch and speed up & down way too much which made hold a mix impossible.

And the mixer was a POS, couldnt mix in the headphones as they seemed to be a lag between the cue and actual output.

I know a good workman shouldnt blame his tool. But well i aint a great workman....and jsut needed to vent.

i got stanton c.303's at home and i have never had problems. Might just be that deck and the delay problem doesnt sound right, must be a faulty mixer cos i have the shitter m.202 and thats had booze and other crap on it and been abused and it works perfectly.

cue was ahead in time vs the system?

it's got nothing to do with the mixer and everything to do with the installation.

i think it's good to play on shit setups every so often, i find it a mark of how good a DJ you are being able to adapt to a new and different environment.

learn to cue completely in headphones... i only cue in headphones and its saved me a few times. played at a house party where the monitors were a logitech surround sound system, which were a half second slower than the cue on the headphones. i just turned em around so they werent as loud and kept my headphones on the whole time :D the other guys who cue using monitors were having shit time.

but yeah thats only solve half the problem you experienced, seeing the pitch was fucked on the cdjs :|

there's a little button that you can hit on em that changes the pitch amount...can't remember what you call it. They also have the pitch bend buttons which are a godsend. I don't touch the jog wheel if I ever use stantons.

have used.... pioneer, denon, numark, vestax and stanton CD players... oh, and tascam.

are all the versions of CD player i have had to "endure" either at friends, house parties, functions or in bars/venues

they're all pretty much the same... play "safe" tracks to start off with, learn, adapt, have fun.

Where is the rubbish, you do a better job with your own tool bottom line.

I'd be the first to say the more gear you experience the better.

But I am pretty sure you would give a much safer performance than if you were using your own gear...

It is this simple guys.

There is nothing hard about a CD player, or a Turntable for that matter...

If you cant do the above, stay in your bedrooms for a while and get your shit down then come out to play . You will not get second chances, even more so in bigger towns and venues.

^^amen to that, i own stantons and have to play on the 1000 MK3's and i adapt so you can to.

My scary experience was when i did my school social with no booth monitor, most epic headphone mixing ever.

I won 314s and have no trouble mixing on them. i found 1000's easy to use as well.

stantons sampling/looping stuff is sooo much better than the pionners. It should have been easier..

yeah set them to the lowest pitch increment, i think about 6%, and deff found it much better using the pitch bend buttons than the platter.

im just way too used to mixing on decent gear, using 1000's is just way too easy. i guess it could be liken to being a racing driver practicing in wrx (being a very easy to drive 'fast' car) all the time, then entering into a race in a Lada Niva.

i'll be playing iot much safer this week using more intro/outro tracks...
