Im looking to incorporate ableton a bit more effectively into my DJ sets. At the moment I'm using SSL on 2 decks and running Live 7 into the 3rd mixer channel which is being controlled by a behringer BCD i had around the place, which is a bit limiting TBH.
I've been seriously looking into the trigger finger or Akai MPD24 for a bit better control overall and the ability to use the multiple pad presets to utilise the midi functionality in both Live and SSL at the same time. Am i going to encounter a bunch of brainimploding issues by trying to do this?
Any ableton only DJs out there use the trigger finger or MPD24 as a standalone controller?

I have used a MPD16 with Ableton, but it was along with a Bitstream or BCR.
I have found them to be pretty good, Definitley great for triggering samples.
If it is just triggering that you want to do, you can always make better use of your keypad, or I have also seen people using external usb number pads to trigger things.

Korg Padkontrol
Its awesome, 16 pads you can assign for start/stop scenes etc.
It also has a finger roll

The MPD 24 or the 30somethingorother are wicked and should acheive what you want.
However the issue maybe using the controller in both apps at once... :stroke:

Yeah i thought that could be an issue, hmmmm....
Hows the durability on the MPD24 Neo? Have you got it set up for DJing with Live?
I use the Korg PadKontrol & Zero4 Combo for ableton... works well!

The 24 is really good. I had a loan of one for a while and found to be nearly perfect for how i wanted to work with a good combination of sturdy faders, knobs and pads. I didn't really have a complicated setup happening so i didnt have much of a need to much around with editors and the like.
The 32 is even more handy with lots of neat stuff for production as well.
The layout of the 24 is probably a bit more suited to using it to DJ with.

After a bit more research i think I've come to realise the most effective controller for me is probably going to be the BCR2000 and a cheap usb number pad/modded keyboard for clip triggering. Cheers for the responses guys

I haven't had a problem yet using the 24 with both serato and ableton at the smae time thanks to the banks.

So you have one preset level set up for ableton and one for serato? Are you able to give me a quick rundown of how you have the MPD set up for ableton Karrupted? :D

ok just quickly - will run more in depth when i get home:
i've only had the mpd24 for a bout a week so i've only quickly set it up.
i've been using the pads row 1 & 2 to trigger clips.
pads row 3 & 4 to do loops and cues in serato.
everything else in ableton i have been using my zero 4 for.
