View Full Version : New DJ Question Part 4 - n00b respect (or how to harden the fuk up)
Funkedub
30-Jun-08, 12:52pm
It's lunchtime ... so it's time to start a thread
There seems to be a bit of "be nice to the n00bs" requets of late.
Fair enough ...
However, it must be pointed out that respect is earned and not a given.
If you're going to waltz into this forum asking questions about the most basic of DJing skills/techniques/gear without doing some fundamental research in the first place then you'll more than likely find that the level of respect you think you deserve is not forthcoming.
On top of this you have to realise that DJs are a bunch of wankers (self included). Some n00bs have the wanker element already sorted ... others will have to work on it.
In some scenes DJing can be all about PLUR ... in others it's about challenging the next guy who steps up as much as yourself.
These last two points above means that you have to harden the fuk up to some degree. If you can't deal with a little online pasting about your n00b question then how are you going to deal with it when you start playing gigs and people really start to criticise the tunes and your talents? Your mates might tell that you rock the Kasbah, but they're just being sycophants ... kinda like when DJs tells promoters how fukken awesome their gigs are.
I figure many of you assume i don't give a fuk about helping n00bs. This would be a misconception. I happily help those who are keen and have already shown some degree of research and commitment to the culture and show a genuine interest in the music and the role of a "DJ" ... bring me some beers and you can come over and i'll tell you why your mixing sucks :)
You take it all too seriously and that's the saddest part of all. It's just playing records and it is meant to be fun.

Awesome. Feel better?
it's so much fun shitting on n00bs and telling them how shit they are, and that they need to harden the fuck up, get a clue, and fuck off (oh p.s. try search next time, faggot!) *angerangeanger*.
but you have to remember.. we were all n00bs once!

whilst we were all n00bs once ... we didn't all ask inane questions without making at least some effort at researching the matter at hand (esp. considering the wealth of info available online)
i think the bigger problem though is n00bs not being able to take the piss or deal with having the piss taken :ahoy:

What i don't agree with is the number of sheep here...
Before saying anything, i don't particularly keep an eye on who says what around here, but of all the people in this thread who have said something resulting in "Funke's threads are gay/fail etc." have you NEVER bashed a noob for asking a stupid question and referred them to the search function?
Or is it a case of, in a noob thread, someone bashes them for asking stupid shit, then we join in. Then Funk bashes the noobs in his own thread, someone bashes him for it, then again, we join in?

^^^
most of the comments are reactionary retorts rather than posts that even attempt to address the issue.
It's far easier to post glib dismissals of the thread and its' theme and tow the line of "Funkedub's a fukking annoying moron who needs to get over it". Just another reflection on the lack of imagination, creativity and piss taking in DJ culture.

Like it has been said before, it is getting old.
Everyone can give a little and get a little but it's as though you have insecurity problems. You can say or imply something so many times as you have but eventually it will turn into overkill, like hither. Lack of imagination, not quite, sick of hearing the same topic burned to death.. I think so.
And just out of curiosity rthreeone. How does that jizz on the back of your throat taste?
Like it has been said before, it is getting old.
so are people that don't search.
you cunts have it a lot easier than before when there was only one forum.... jaded producers and sound techs are a lot more harsh than anyone who posts here.
in the end i don't really care, if people are too lazy to search, with all the n00bs here 'helping' other n00bs they're getting shit/wrong advice anyway, so it's their own fault.

I like how someone with 15 years DJ experience, knows the ins and outs of the industry, has used every piece of equipment under the sun, but only has 10 posts is looked down upon as a n00b and knowing fuck all.
Yet, someone with 5k + posts who knows fuck all about fuck all, thinks thay are the king and expect some sort of respect because they have amassed some huge amount of posts.

C'mon mate, take yer hand off it for a moment. You weren't piss-taking.
I respect a fair bit of what you have to say on here but you do seem to spend an inordinate amount of time posting new threads about various issues (relevant or not) related to the act of DJing. Yes, DJing is lots of fun but it ain't rocket science so there is only so much to say about it IMO.
You give the impression that you only have one interest in your life and that's all you can talk about. God knows what it would be like being a chick going on a dinner date with you. :P

mate if you get your head out of your arse you'll notice i made an unopinionated observation on some of the mindless cunts here, like yourself.
if insulting me about deepthroating some cunt that i have yet to even support in their point of view makes you feel less guilty about the bukkake session you endured with your "mates" on the weekend, the limelights yours buddy.

as for n00bs helping n00bs.. well the 'old school professional masters of the trade' don't want to help, so how is it going to work otherwise? oh i forgot, the almighty search function. we are stuck in a loop here. quick, someone push the exit button!

... less guilty about the bukkake session you endured ...
Bukkake (Japanese: ブッカケ) is a group sex practice that features a male or female subject being ejaculated on by multiple men. Theories as to the historical origins of bukkake vary, but one is that bukkake was started by Japanese adult video companies during the 1970s and 1980s.
Well shit a brick. Thats what i learnt today.

Funkedub, i usually love what you have to say but i disagree with this entirely. This is a dance music forum, and some people are just n00bs at seeking out information and this being a dance music forum is an obvious choice to ask some fundamental questions, we shouldnt just tell people to go somewhere else and come back when they reach a level we are happy with, thats just dumb. Something to think about and believe me, i hate when i voice my opinion and dickheads just shoot down the opposing argument so i hope you understand what everyone is trying to say from my post.

hmm... see, i'm not whinging like the people whinging about their perception on me whinging ... i understand the need to ask questions too.
My point was that if you're going to ask a question without even attempting to grasp the most basic fundamentals don't moan and whine when you get replies that offend your sensibilities.
I just voiced my opinion that some people need to harden the fuk up ... and stand by that.
