ok what are you guys buying next? i dont mean dream purchases but serious ones.

me? i just got a M-Audio, Audiophile 2496 (yet to have it sent down to me though)

next purchases are going to be :

Midi knob control surface (doepfer control dial). so i can really get some hands on action going with the soft synths and sequencer.

Mixer (Maybe a mackie 1402). So i can use all for outputs of my wavestation and the outputs of my new soundcard. I'm keen on the mackie because after research i've found that in the cheaper end of the spectrum no mixer can ever come close. It's a lot of cash so i'm hoping to find one 2nd hand. but even buying one new, i can get a good deal. and if i get over this quickly i can always sell it off and not take too big a loss.

Synth. Just saw some new microKorg (http://namm.harmony-central.com/SNAMM02/Content/Korg/PR/microKorg.html) been previewed at Summer NAMM. MS2000synth engine, 37 not keyboard, option to route audio signals through it, lots of useful looking waveforms and settings. all for $500usd MSRP. Damn it looks like a steal! out in october!

so what are u seriously looking at buying next ? or are you lucky enough to be happy with what you have? :p

Can't afford too much..........I don't work full-time BUT,

I am gunna buy a new mixer for my live stuff and decided on a (very cheap) Behringer MXB1002. Only $359.00 AUD.

I know I know probably shit...but hey I think it will do the job for what I want to do. Besides it's about 1/4 the size of the monster I got now (I want to be able to fit all my equip in a backpack).

Cool.

i will sell you my RM1X for $950

as for the korg unit... you know the MS2000 is only around a grand in some places anyway?

just thought id mention

i dont plan on any music purchases for a while, besides a few ZIP diskettes

oh by the way i got my 1402 VLZ PRO for 900 brand new off of Ebay australia

it was unopened in its box, sealed.

so keep your eyes out for good deals. and yes, people may argue there are cheaper mixers too get but the mackie is very reliable so you get what you pay for. even at 1000 thats a fair price considering the XDR pre-amps arent too bad and all the routing options it has

if you buy one and want to know some ideas for hooking everything up feel free to contact me, as its a very very flexible mixer for its size. the mute buttons are also the ALT 3/4 output routers.... a nice little idea to save space

thats how i record into my pc..... through the ALT 3/4

sometimes use the Inserts for SPU units or directrecording @ pfl

mungo - good choice.

Go the yammy.

I'm looking a small mixing desk - I dont require anything special or full on - simple but efficient (like the rest of my gear) will do.

Haven't looked around a hellova lot yet as cash isnt quite where head wants it to be. :meh:

yeah i have seen ms2000's dirt cheap. but not recently. seems the price has gone back up thru the roof again. the importer in singapore normally buys a heap of stuff when it first comes out and mega discounts it. up until a couple of months ago they had ms2000's for $600. i didnt have money for it then and im kicking myself for missing it. so a microkorg in the $400 range isnt unpossible.

im swcouring ebay for a mackie in australia. would rather not buy new. but may have no choice. if i do ill go striaght to the importer in singapore :) when i get a mixer ill defn ask for some help with routing etc.

god i love having family in singapore

mmm after the JV1080..... a hardware sequencer for live sets... c'mon folks
which one's are recommended.
Will mostly be transferring tunes/loops from our spunky Atari running CubaseV3.o.

any tips for reliable live sequencing. (hardware based... don't want to run it off software... too stressful & hard to relax & play)

mmm jv 1080 whats that like? ive just been offered one new from the manufacturer for 1200. worth the dough? havent really played with one. going to go check it out tomorrow and have a proper exlpore of its sounds.

also sequencers dri will say mpc2000xl. but some of my friends swear by their rs7000's. ive heard the sequencing section shits on the mpc's. and if im not mistaken the rm1x shares or has a similar sequencer built in.

worth having....
Roland don't list it with their new products anymore so to find one in new condition is a good thing i think... and a good price too I'd say(friend of mine paid $1200 2nd hand a coupla years ago)

The expansion cards make it truly awesome so try to wangle some of these at a good price (orchestra cards!!:p ) The 1080 has 4 expansion slots for interchangeable cards...

NICE purchase. My friend just got one of these. It was a prick to get setup. He has P4 1.4Ghz, Win2K with onboard audio. It took a little bit more than disabling the onboard sound through the hardware profile to get it going. Hope it doesnt happen to you. If it does, let me know and I'll ask him what he did........

Works rather nicly with his Korg Triton Rack and MIDI keyboard hooked up to it. Check it out @ http://www.korg.com/gear/info.asp?A_PROD_NO=TRITONRACK

The RM1x's on ebay in the states usually go for under $700AUD but I found one that is only 6months old and hardly been used so I payed $770AUD

Sean
30-Jul-02, 07:37pm
yeah gear prices are relative to the country. in the states there is a much wider market for gear, and hundreds of major cities. so the wholesale price is fairly competitive and there are major chains (samash and guitar center) that have major buying power. so one company is buying kit for hundreds of stores. australia, whilst we have a lot of producers, is still a pretty small and isolated place. we may have half a dozen cities and no nation wide chains that i know of. so we lose out on buying power and remoteness. plus usually the product goes thru an importer. these factors all add to the cost. thats why gear is so much more in australia. its all relative. so 700aud for an rm1x in the USA may be average, but you'd be lucky to find one for that little over here.

buying from ebay in the USA is asking for trouble

not only will you pay through the nose for postage costs but for something like an rm1x id not like for it to go bouncing around trucks and planes

jeez i even get edgy touring my gear in flightcases

another thing to watch out for is the power issue... some brands or types of gear may need converters (as simple as new power pack or adaptor) but some WILL need transformers ...

stupid american voltage

oh and my next purchasing round will be the little neglected stuff.... like new cable to make some new leads, a SCSI cable, some blank cd spindles, electricians tape, ZIP diskettes and ...um.... clothing

but in the next few months a Roland SPD20 drum pad will be added to my live rig

mungo
04-Aug-02, 11:11am
The postage is massive out of the states but even with $200AUD of postage it's still cheaper than the prices here. With the voltage differences it's a RM1x it runs on the standard yamaha PA-C5 power adaptor so I just buy and australian PA-C5 and they don't even send the US one (also saves on postage). Plus if it gets damaged it fully insured for replacement (if it snaps a knob it gets replaced). So I have no worries.

One gripe about ebay, I was selling a whole bunch of stuff and it all went really well except for this one really annoying person. I quoted him at $30 postage/insurance/packing for the item he had won. He moaned about it for a week, blah blah blah that postage should only be $10 blah blah blah. So anyway I got a quote from australia post from their local depot ($27.50). He moaned about this for a few more days so I got another quote this time $16.75 (not including packing). So he finally accecpts only postage costs (not packing as in the agreement from ebay). I was rather annoyed with him and not wishing to be mean and leave a negitive comment about him left a "neutral". So he sees this and send me this email (after posting negitive feedback about me)

G'day John,
I just read your feedback - thanks. I was just about to forward the money (sorry it took a couple of days) but now I suppose I don't need to. If you were unhappy, you really should have contacted me first. Oh well - you get that.
Don't bother sending me a reply, it is neither welcome nor necessary.

Rick

What a dick! So now I ahve the choice of sueing him for breach of contract or just selling to the next bidder but I keep the negitive feedback he left about me.

Xelpmok
04-Aug-02, 02:16pm
it would be a waste of money to sue him, if youre using the australian legal system. (unless its a really expensive item)

it sux.

just put the item back up on ebay and count your losses.

driload
04-Aug-02, 06:15pm
thats VERY normal mungo, dont get cut up over it

your best option is to RELIST the item and ALSO fill out a Non-Paying Bidder form through ebay which means they refund your previous list prices and also send some neasty emails to him

apart from that, ebay is ebay and is the home of more fraudulent activity then youde believe me if i told you

again, i say theres no need to buy gear from usa. look around enough and you will be amazed. in the band im in im both the youngest and less... shall we say... financialy advanced... heh heh

therefore over the years to put my studio together i decided to get only the best stuff but at prices i could afford, so i learnt the best ways to get my gear cheaper.

ebay is useful 10% of the time, price-comparing and inter-store haggling is awesome as well as keeping tabs with your friendly network of music acquaintances.........

(Re: the yellow e-kit)

^^^ £1500 = AUD$5k?

http://www.andertons.co.uk/acatalog/info_DRUMIT5.html

Looks mint, very much along the lines of Clavia ddrum4 SE kit, complete with its black mesh skins. Perhaps its the long awaited ddrum successor, being both from Sweden and all that.

But I don't have even AUD$3k for Roland's all-mesh TD9 kit right now, so Legacy is where it's at for now.

I can appreciate that DrumIt 5 is quite possibly the best thing around though, with user multi-samples. Brilliant! Yamaha also allow user-samples on their high end kit too, but for a few more $k.

Indeed, i believe clavia sold the design to 2box to carry the flame. this is everything i want in a kit though - coming from the TD12k, it doesn't take long to get frustrated with the inbuilt sounds and triggering samples via MIDI always had latency issues - so this is the business!

far sexier than anything from yamaha too

Kaoss Pad...

I remember wanting one for ages to and doing what you did, the self pep talk, 'prices will come down' sif, gone up for imports with shitty finacial woes the world is facing....they were sweet when they came out but minus the samples I've sorta seen it as the lazy mans tweak knob/s

I'll seriously get another mpc2500, maybe a 4000 if i could be assed, can't believe elektrons were available in 2002 and we still talk about them today......sign of a decent bit of hardware, that would also be up there for me,

But, a local act has one, and I hate buying gear you know other dudes in your city have,.,.,,

its like fashion, you know the whole, ''I bought that fresh t-shirt first'' when you see another dude walking down the street in the same one as you  on the other hand its sorta cool that so many peeps play out on laptops these days!!!!

expecting a recession will cause a recession u goose. the government splurrged all this money giving it away to people, and what do they do? they save it, fucking the economy further.

plus a recession is 2 consecutive periods of no/negative growth. we are yet to see one. the government and central bank are doing everything right to ward off a recession.
