In another thread in this forum someone referred to the 'one second finger' in relation to asking a dj what track they just played. In respect of this scenario and many others, when someone tries to talk to you whilst mixing what is your preferred etiquette?
I'm a one second fingerer.

ignore until you have mixed in track, then abuse, then listen with look of disdain.

I feel a little bad when you pull the ol' 'I'll only be a second' and there waiting patiently and it is more like two minutes and they walk away feeling ignored. But then on the other hand fuck'em if they can't work out that you’re actually in the middle of something.

If they have enough interest on the music to actually have something of worth to day to you, they should damn well know when you're on the mix or not and time their approach accordingly, it's not fucking hard.
1 second fingerer here...at least until it's nicely in the mix and holding...if they can't wait that long, too bad!
^^ i guess so, but if they're not DJs or know nothing about mixing, but just like the music, chances are they won't know when you're on the mix. i had a dude like this once, and kindly said to him -- "1 sec" .. when i finished the mix he gave me his email and asked if i can email him the names of some of the tunes i'd just played cos he loved it. we need more cool people like this!

If there asking about tracks its kinda good but I had a guy come up mid mix and proceeded to ask me about cdj's (which I wasn't even using) and ask for my opinion on the cdj's 400 :rainman:

Yeah, I do this. Tell them to wait, and two minutes later they are still standing there! But as they are standing I talk to them, even if I'm not looking at them, reassuring them I wont be long. Then I apologise when I finish of course. Or I tell them to wait till I'm finished and I can chat to them more.
ask if they're organising my riders?

I tell them that im mixing and to wait or come back later and i think thats the best way. If your not really into the mix then i think thats fair. If im already deep in the mix and somebody clearly wants to talk to me i just put my headphones on and look really busy and anti social and they get the message

i like to ask stupid questions, and just generally haggle when i know there doing something. I like seeing the DJ's reaction, yes i am a wanker that likes to annoy people.

i'd hate it if my brother walked in on me bedroom banging ... but i don't see what the decks have to do with it
