Mate that is sad news.... but.... WTF was your gear doing in your car?

I never leave anything of any value in my car and that includes loose change because some people are sooo desperate that they will break into your car to steal it.

What suburb you in?

report the serial numbers to pioneer and if they turn up in repairs etc they will know, also tell ur local DJ shops/second hand dealers to look out for people trying to trade in same gear (it happens) and keep ur eye on ebay

hope you catch the pricks

I'd start by finding who new you had the gig and would have the gear in your car
Sad to say, its one of your mates' mates that will have done it.

Same thing happened with my car stereo.
Never play it loud, one occasion I did with a mate's mate in the car and my mate let fly how much it was worth, one week later it was broken into in my driveway at 2 - 4am and stolen
Had to be inside job, as you either needed allen keys or bolt cutters to get it out - Try cutting 4 2G power and earth leads in a hurry.

Left your gear in the car....:slap:

DJ D one
19-Sep-08, 10:51am
Sorry to hear that.
Once one of my workmate, left 5k worth of gear (1000mk3x2 & DJM800) in road case on his car's back chair, while in a meeting. When we got out of the meeting he showed me his gear, and I told him he was crazy to leave this stuff like this in the car...people will brake a $150 car window for a 20 cents coin, imagine 5ks!!!.

If you have left it in view in the car, then it might be random (And in this case where is your common sense???)...if it was in the boot, then it might be an inside job...also remember that if you have your stuff in the boot and someone crash on your back...then of goes your gear...

Now I might go and record all my serials and put it on paper, I do have pictures but I guess I have to take new ones of the newer gear.

Good luck and no matter how unfortunate this is...I hope it serves of lesson to any of the younger ones outhtere.

I'm not going to tell you what hindsights already telling you.

Advice is to get all the info, serial numbers etc & report to the cops.

Also get in contact with ebay and any second hand traders in the local area with the info.

If you or your family have comp insurance you should be able to claim some of it, especially if you were using them for paid work.

Going with this, it has to be someone who knew.

Hope you find them mate as I've had about a 1000 dollars worth of gear stolen from my car. It sucks, I was so pissed off about it but it's such a useless feeling, becuase you can't do anything about it really.

I started bragging about a new system I put into my car that didn't exist as a kind of in-joke between mates about how stupid it would be to do it so soon after having it stolen, sure enough, a month later and my car was broken into again, same spot, same window and everything.

Try finding out subtly who knew you had the gig and who knew you had the gear. Try getting round to their places and scoping it out.

Worth a try at least.

Yesterday you went to school, then to work, and then to a gig? You say you woke up to find your gear missing, which means you did the gig and got your mum to pick you up, and then you left the gear in the car overnight? Why didn't you take the gear out of the car when you got home?

What a stupid fucking comment
You've never given a mate of a mate a lift or anything like that?

Its not your mates that roll you, its associates of theirs....and half the time it maybe people they don't even know well.
Point is, word travels and its generally someone that knows you have the gear and knows where it will be
Rarely just a random act

I mean same as chop, my amps weighed about 15kgs each and were about 30cm by 50 cm each - not easy to move
The sub and box was about 40 to 50kg
Not something that you would randomly just decide to steal

The only real way to prevent this from happening again is NOT to leave 5k worth of gear sitting in the back of a car...WTF were you thinking dude...?? Are you even insured against something like that??

No sympothy here mate...no one in there right mind leaves shit like that just laying around uninsured....Hope your've learn't a good lesson about looking after your shit and protecting it from happening again...I don't mean to sound harsh...but with things like this, you've only got yourself to blame....

SlicyDicer

Himself and the guys who stole it. They are sort of to blame too, or am I free to go around stealing shit from houses because they didn't insure it, therefore, it's their fault and I'm completely free from blame?

Thank you so much for all your sympathy.

Some one was asking about the chain of events. this there for is the reason why i left it in my car.

First of all thusday night i had to put the gear in my car (stolen thusday night) because on friday i had to go to school then was meetiing my mum at the house were the gig was in a free then getting back to school then going to work then going from work to the gig.

there for the reason i left it in my car.

im cheaking ebay atm

sucks bigtime, but REPORT IT TO THE COPS! (and pioneer)

If they file the serial numbers, when a hock-shop gets the product they have to check the serial number... if it's been reported stolen it'll come up marked as stolen goods.

in the mid90s my uncle had his 6-string (custom) bass stolen - about 6K worth of gear. He thought he'd lost it forever -claimed on insurance etc, but then 2 months later someone came into cash converters and tried to get $500 for it. Being a custom dealio they didn't know what it was worth and tried to check listings and subsequently discovered it was stolen... Called the cops and the dude got arrested and my uncle got his bas back.

So... good things can happen, but do describe it to the cops in the best detail that you can, and with serial numbers.

lucky you have insurance mate, but damn i wouldnt leave dj gear unattended in my car, period.

DJ_Ange
22-Sep-08, 03:43am
Nasty stuff, I can see the only reason for having it in the car was the complete lack of time to be able to pack it on the day ....

I've taken a few risks like that before. When I was starting out I did a few paid house parties and events that required me bringing the equipment. I used my own gear and a few times after the gig I decided to leave it in the car as I was too tired to take it all out. (Car was parked in a secure apartment car park though - not on the street and always only packed so everything fitted into the boot) Luckily nothing happened ... but it could have.

Can I suggest next time instead of using your own gear for gigs you really should be hiring. There's a few reasons for this:
* if stuff is stolen the company is covered for it by their insurance
* if anything gets spilt on the gear again the company is covered for its repair where you are unlikely to have taken out goods insurance
* it's not that expensive to hire decent gear and the venues really should be looking after that for you but based on past experience I would now never play a gig (houseparty or other) that required me bringing the gear unless they covered the rental cost in my dj fee .... in the end it's just not worth using your own gear)

* it's not that expensive to hire decent gear and the venues really should be looking after that for you but based on past experience I would now never play a gig (houseparty or other) that required me bringing the gear unless they covered the rental cost in my dj fee .... in the end it's just not worth using your own gear)

its easy to say its not worth using your own gear, but realistically sometimes you have too. Sound gear is another issue as not everyone has bass bins lying around to use whenever but dj kit, always gets pulled up to take to gigs/house parties etc. We have to use our own gear for our own nights still sometimes (my mixer is looking kinda sad at the moment with a few missing faders) you just have to make sure you can cover costs if stuff gets broken, stolen. etc.

But, definitley hire if you can.

* it's not that expensive to hire decent gear and the venues really should be looking after that for you but based on past experience I would now never play a gig (houseparty or other) that required me bringing the gear unless they covered the rental cost in my dj fee .... in the end it's just not worth using your own gear)

if you read the fine print of a growing number hire places, you are not covered by insurance for thieft.

this is a recent happening and something that all DJ's who hire gear should be aware of.

one of the most recent hire places i took monitors from (no names) i came back and gave the gear back and they tested the speakers... one had a blown cone. they're like WTF.... and I'm like GGF'd i hired this for my sister's engagement party, the (500W) speakers bearly got above 3 volume.... ie less than being able to actually hear a cone was blown.

:|

:|.....

not hiring from those cunts again

My DJ equipment was stolen too. I owned 2 CDJ1000Mk2's and DJM 300 mixer.

When i moved to Brisbane my mum sent my equipment down using ordinary post. And it was stolen by some shit head in the Australian Post. AP couldnt do shit, still gutted today.

I had to buy again so i bought 2 CDJ 1000mk3's and DJM800 i just bought last year.
