View Full Version : cdj's
im after a cdj. just one for now. i've had 1200's for years and im sick of paying 20 bucks each for records.
i just want something really simple. are cdj 200's any good? i'll probably go second hand, any recommendations and price i should be paying?

I've heard 400s are the way to go, I'm only starting to consider buying some myself though so don't take my word.
support vinyl!
and for similar money you could get traktor scratch or similar

anything pioneer is the way to go mate :thumb:
If you can use pioneer 100s etc you have no dramas on 1000s

Around $750, depending how good you are at bargaining and what stock levels are like where you are buying it from.
for 750 u could probably get some cmx 3000,s (second hand) and have 2 decks

Here's my experience of what you're considering.
I went down this path, of adding a single CDJ-200 to my vinyl 1200s setup a couple of years ago.
I wanted to cut down on buying vinyl, 10 years and 3500+ records is enough I think. I was running out of space for them all. Mainly I wanted to save $ and have new music quicker/easier. Most of my DJ friends have Traktor Scratch too.
It was great with the vinyl decks and single CDJ for a while. The CDJ was fun and easy to use. I quite enjoy mixing with CDs. I mix with CDs when playing out now.
The problems started when I began buying more and more mp3s and less vinyl, which will happen. You soon realise that for the same $ as a 12" with 1-4 tracks (some you won't like) you can buy 10-15+ mp3s that are all excellent/hand picked, and you can play them within minutes of buying.
Having so much new music on CD, and only a single source to mix it from though is really limiting, and it's frustrating having to alternate with older vinyl records to mix. If you keep buying new vinyl then it's ok, but that's not really helping you to save $.
If you really want to keep the flow of your mixing going, and save $ in the long run, and have a decent PC/laptop near your decks. I recommend save more $ and get Traktor Scratch, Serato or something similar. Or go for 2 x CDJs sooner than later.
I got Traktor Scratch a few months ago, and I'm absolutely loving it.
My vinyl record collection now collects dust, and I'm seeking out, finding, buying and mixing up so many new and different sounds because of going digital. It's been really positive and inspirational for me.
I used to love the vinyl but there are so many more advantages to playing digital files now.
Something that I've noticed, when seeking out artwork (mostly from Juno) for all the mp3s I buy (iTunes cover-flow), is how many of these 12" records are out of stock so quickly. I guess lower demand, and smaller pressing runs.

^^ was going to say the same thing myself: serato or traktor are both fucking sweet programs that let you play your mp3s the way you know how to do it anyway (i.e., on vinyl).
cheers techi! i dont have a laptop so i'll probably get the 2 cdj's. i will still be buying records cos a lot of stuff i'm into only comes out on record but if what i want is on mp3 then i'll just download.
ive bought so many records that sounded good when i bought them that i ended up hating. it wont sting as much if i'm only paying 3 or 4 bucks per mp3.

For the price of 2 Cdjs you could get a decent laptop these days, I'd probably go that route if I was in your position.

Another cdjs thread, you really need to go try the suckers out to know exactly what you want, everything is different. You need to know what a jog wheel is, vinyl mode is etc. And you wanna know all the other stuff that is kitted on what your buying, and to tell you the truth you aint gunna find it all on here, unless you ask lots and lots of questions which almost always ends up in a big shamozal of people saying this and people saying that and you end up getting really no idea at all, but hey you might find part of the what your are looking for. Still i would go into a shop and try out what you want, even a few other Cdjs to get a idea of each product and whats best for you price wise and jam packed feature wise!! :zabiela:   :) P P
dude, just buy a cdj200. $400 is around the average price second hand, you'd be lucky to get that or under but don't be shocked to pay $400-$500

Whats the best price you'd get second hand Mk3s for? I had a look at the 800s but they seem to have less features than the 400s? So I'm thinking I might just bite the bullet...

it's been said 100s of times, test both of em for yourself....those extra features rarely get used anyhow
