Fake & Fiction paid upgrade or no

Apparently real... what current users would be charged would be likely to vary-based on whether they have Traktor Scratch Alone or Traktor Scratch and Traktor 3.4 as from what it appears to be is that NI have finally made the crossover into a single package that is better tailored to Scratch users YAY!!! but we will have to wait and see:rock:

Photoshoped or real?

Probs real. actually I hope real!!!

This is the product they should have released in the first place

This is what they could have proabably realeased up front, but what they released was already the most advanced on the market this should really just seal that even further, as Serato users will probaly no longer see it solely as competion to what they already have and realise that NI have taken this quite a few steps further by allowing the use of so many more channels!

Are you pissed off with Native Instruments (it's obviously going to be a paid upgrade)

Maybe a little, BUT my guess is that they've taken the time to streamline Traktor Scratch and the Traktor 3.4 software into one variant which will hopefully make a much more logical solution than having to get them separately and then set them both up. For the users who currently have both software packages I would guess that it may well be a free software upgrade.

New Interface

Different Graphic User interface only it seems... Same Audio interface mind you (Audio 8 is unchanged) only likely hardware change is it will probably come with an additional pair of their impressive multicore cables to allow up to 4 deck control

21 FX (designed with Allen & Heath??? Does Allen and Heath even make software????
I think this is the current number of different effects that is supplied with Traktor 3.4 but you only get a cut down version in Traktor Scratch ATM. Allen & Heath and Ecler have both Collaborated with NI to create software versions of their hardware effects namely the awesome filters (shouldnt be considered as effects mind you) and LFOs... Traktor and Traktor Scratch already have these built in

I wish Serato would bring out the competition cause this might make me move over

For serato to come up to par with the Traktor system youd need to kiss goodbye to the current audio interface and replace it with a new one for a start... hello big cost as it lacks the channels to do what Traktor can (2, 3 or 4 Decks controlled but the equivalent number of Turntables or CDJs)... Not to mention it would finally need MIDI compatibility and internal effects/filters...BUT LETS NOT START THE WHOLE TRAKTOR SERATO DEBATE AGAIN

I'd love to see a TT with MIDI capability and two way comms with the the software.

Would be cool to be able to scratch over a track and then drop it straight back in time with the playing track......minus the skill of course ;D

Whilst I dont own Scratch, I own Traktor 3.4 (i think thats the latest version the upgrade centre downloaded recently) and I also own a Ecler Evo5
Bought the mixer with the concept of getting scratch, til i realised there was no "minimal" option - i was certain the software could be had for 150 - 300 bucks without the hardware

Hi
You can definatelyu purchase a "Lite" version to use with the EVO5. DJW of store DJ do not have it listed but it is on the NI website. It is listed here at about half the price of the full package which includes the Audio 8. This is for users with a "Tracktor Certified" mixer. I would assume that they would do the same thing with the new "Pro" version. I guess not many places here sell it due to the low number of "Certified" mixers available.

Dear Traktor user,

On behalf of the Traktor team, I am happy to introduce the
next generation of our DJ technology to you today - called
TRAKTOR PRO. The "Pro" stands for "professional", and in
fact the new Traktor makes some important steps forward
that I would like to explain to you.

After many years of development history, starting with the
release of the very first Traktor version in 2001, we have
come a long way in the technological evolution of DJ gear.
Specifically, DJ software has developed from a "geek tool"
to a standard platform for DJs of all styles and
experience levels. Something that we were especially proud
of is that around one fourth of all DJs in the current "DJ
Mag Top 100" are now using Traktor Scratch and/or Traktor
3 as their main DJ tool.

The new Traktor generation that we are announcing today
was designed to take this paradigm shift into account, and
to push DJ technology forward even further. On November
1st, Traktor 3 and Traktor Scratch will be succeeded by
Traktor Pro and Traktor Scratch Pro, with both product
versions now based on the same new Traktor Pro software.

Traktor Pro was designed with a strong focus on a
professional DJ approach - for playing out live in a
performance environment. The new version brings many
additions, refinements and changes to the software you
know. Our central aim was to improve Traktor in a way that
supports and inspires you on the actual creative act of
DJing in the best possible way, and that reduces all the
associated maintenance and preparation effort as much as
possible.

For Traktor Pro, we have strongly optimized the user
interface and given it a much clearer look and a very
logical, intuitive layout. We have also "supercharged" the
effect capabilities of Traktor, an area that we know is
very important for many users. Other major areas of
improvement include looping and cueing, beatgridding, sync
features, browser and database handling, and MIDI control
- please check our website for detailed info.

Redesigning the interface for the new Traktor generation
also allowed us to integrate the timecode functionality in
a more efficient way. You will find that the related
functions in Traktor Scratch Pro are integrated
seamlessly, from the improved timecode scopes within the
decks to the convenient handling of the timecode signal
calibration.

The workflow improvements in Traktor Pro are based on many
months of conceptual research and usability tests, and of
course on the huge amount of constructive feedback that we
have received from the user community. Some changes might
require you to adapt and even relearn certain ways of
handling loops, cue points and effect controls.
Ultimately, we are confident that you will find the new
way of doing things in Traktor Pro very inspiring and
convenient.

To make Traktor Pro as efficient and reliable as possible,
we have also removed some aspects of the previous Traktor
version that are less relevant within the focus on a
performance application.

In favor of a more compact application, there is no longer
an integrated music store in the Traktor software.
Instead, Beatport will start to include Traktor metadata
with all their new releases in 2009. Beatport also now
offers a special download application that comes with the
same convenient download features that we first
established in Traktor.

There is also no "Native Mix recording" in Traktor Pro
because we gave priority to other aspects of the new
version. You can of course still record your set as an
audio file straight to hard disk. We plan to add mix data
recording functionality to Traktor Pro at some point in
the future.

We will release Traktor Pro and Traktor Scratch Pro on
November 1st. Of course, the development does not stop at
this point. We have many further improvements planned, and
you can expect them to be introduced via free feature
updates in the future.

You can find all details of the new Traktor generation,
including tutorial videos and info on the update pricing,
on
-> http://www.listentopro.com

Thanks for using Traktor!

Friedemann Becker Senior Product Designer / DJ Division

P.S. We always appreciate hearing your feedback on
Traktor! Because this email goes to thousands of Traktor
users, we cannot individually respond to every single
reply that we receive. However, all messages will be read
carefully.

nice mate.
talking in terms of money, say the conversion rate is 0.66 (which would be piss poor as it is now). it would be 699 x 1.5 = 1048.50
that makes it $300 more expensive then serato. but u get a better sound card + 4 decks and other bits and pieces including flac support.
in my opinion well worth the extra doshh

To make y'all a bit jealous, I scored Traktor Scratch not all that long ago as a clearance item through DJ Warehouse for AUS$499 and got Traktor 3.3 boxed from NI direct in their 50% sale thing when the dollar was worth bout 98c US= I paid $127 AUS for that part...

leaving me very cheaply open to the Free upgrade.... OH YEAH!!!

looks nice - I'll probably do the upgrade.. Been waiting for a good cover-art function for a while now. I like how you get a small glimpse of the cover art in your crate, and i assume that the pic in the bottom left corner will update as you scroll through your crate..

I hope they give us a little more flexibility in customsing the gui. It looks a little busy, and perhaps a little too cluttered for my macbook screen. Would be great if we can select what information is displayed..

Live² - Serato and Ableton announce creative partnership.

Auckland, New Zealand, ( October 17, 2008 )

DJs, remixers and producers on the forefront of technology, watch out.

Serato and Ableton are happy to announce a partnership, which will pave the way for the future of Digital DJing. With shared artist rosters from hip-hop (DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Nu-Mark, A-Trak) to electronica (Paul Van Dyk, DJ Sasha), both Ableton Live and Serato Scratch Live are renowned as the premier performance platforms in clubs around the globe.

While Serato’s Scratch Live excels in vinyl emulation, music library control and lightning quick hands-on scratching, Ableton Live provides the tools for production, on-the-fly remixing and beat creation.

“Ableton and Serato take different approaches to modern musical performance,” says Ableton CEO Gerhard Behles, “But both companies live by the philosophy that software should be straightforward, easy to use, and most importantly, reliable and stable onstage and in the studio. Ableton has never had an answer for the DJ who wants vinyl control, and rather than try to emulate what Serato do so well, we simply make sure that our products work well together.”

Serato Audio Research CEO Steve West agrees. “After years of talking together, we’re thrilled to be working with Ableton. It’s exciting to think about what we can offer to DJs and producers: the ability to go beyond just spinning records and add a personal stamp to the music they play.”

Just where this Serato and Ableton collaboration will take us has yet to be seen but one thing is clear: the worlds of DJing, remixing and production for artists worldwide have changes ahead.

According to a rep from Native Instruments [URL="http://www.native-instruments.com/forum_us/showthread.php?t=72186"](Source here) (http://www.ableton.com)

with Traktor Pro you can seamlessly slave Ableton Live even in timecode mode, thanks to the new automatic master clock feature and the extended MIDI clock functions.

The same thing also works the other way around, with Traktor Pro in slave and Ableton in master mode.

Hi all, long time serato user that just purchased a zero 4 (for ableton use) would like to give traktor scratch a shot yet don't want to shell out $349 us for the "certified mixer upgrade" is there any demo versions available for this? I believe in paying for software if you use it yet I am not up for shelling out the cash without trialling it as I have heard there is problems between the zero4 and ts.

  :hooray:

Installed Traktor Scratch Pro on my macbook this morning - been playing around with it..

First thing I did was see if my keyboard shortcuts had been migrated - they hadn't, and I can't seem to use my customised file from the old traktor scratch..

Started customising the entire gui - I was concerned that the gui for scratch pro was a little too busy for my macbook screen, and I do prefer minimal stuff on my screen when I'm using it live - Happy to stay the entire gui is entirely customisable. Infact almost every feature of the screen is almost customisable, way more so than the original traktor.

The cover art feature was a much anticipated feature for me - and i'm glad they have worked out an excellent system with it. The crate size is customisable, so I can feature a small image or a large image for each item in my crates..

Effects are nuts!! Love how you can assign 3 effects to each deck..

Can't think of much more to say at the moment, but I am extremely happy with the upgrade. So many features that make total sense. Still haven't messed around with the midi mapping, and a bunch of other features yet..
Will continue messing around with it today..

One thing I should suggest - Give yourself plenty of time to set up everything and customise it before you take it out into the clubs.. There are just so many new features and ways to customise it that you really need to become confident with it before going public..

total win for me!

sucks to be serato!

Thinking seriously about making the move to Traktor in the future.

Just one question, if you mix in key, can you sort your tunes by key? How hard is it to find the next tune you want to play in the right key?

Basically in my cd wallet, my cd's are organised by key so it's simple, how can you do it in Traktor?

Also how real do the timecoded cd's and records feel? I imagine quite good.

I had the same question as I have all my records sorted by key. As far as I can tell you can customise the metadata displayed (if using MP3s) and have a column for key. You can definately do this in Torq and I am about 80% ceratin you can in Traktor. I went to Spank for a play and it is a very cool device. The timecoded vinyl felt great.

Using Mixed in Key it writes in the id3 tag data for the tracks key... there is then a column in your library for key... click on it to sort by key and youre done...

I love it!

Just installed TSP over my install of TS1... am I right in thinking I have to analyse all my tracks over again? and what about all the editing of track name data that I went through, it doesn't seem to have been carried over - like TSP assumes it has never seen any of my tracks before?????!??!?

did you bother backing up your nml and tks files? because if not you probably wiped them all and you'll have to do it again :meh:

Using Mixed in Key it writes in the id3 tag data for the tracks key... there is then a column in your library for key... click on it to sort by key and youre done...

I love it!

What, in the traktor library? Mine doesn't have it... Or are we talking pro here? Or mixed in key itself?

any verdicts on whether or not its worth upgrading to pro from TS1?

is the $150 or whatever it is justified?

Definitely upgrade. This is not a small update, it really is the pinnacle of DVS. Everything just works, its slick and very intuitive. Plus it looks damn sexy 8)

Theres an option in Mixed in Key to "Write Key Tag Data" select it and it will add the key data into Traktor Librarys, Numark Virtual Vinyl also I know from experience-i also hear Torq offers this too.

Traktor 3 and Traktor Scratch supported it cos I used it before the upgrade... Just like in iTunes u have options on the cloumns that your browser displays "Key" is one of them. You select which ones are displayed by right clicking (CRTL click) on the the library columns in Traktor... then select the categories you want to filter by!
The manual will spell it out even more clearly... if my description hasnt been the flashest

Two questions...

Does Tracktor support 3 decks?
Also, if I'm recording a mix, do I need a separate computer for the recording or will a modern Lappy handle both the Traktoring and Recording?

It supports 4 decks.

I believe it used to have native recording internally but no longer does. Apparently you can record your sets as a straight audio file to your desktop though?? Or if you have something like Ableton, just route your audio into that and use its recording...

Yeah it records in wav. You just click a button to start and stop.

Downloaded Traktor Pro

Seems a nice and simple interface, but pretty different to 3.4, definitely going to have to spend quite a bit of time to adapt and remap my midi controllers.

Overall, its looks good!

love it, played with it on sunday afternoon and it went great... only thing was that i forgot to delete all of the keyboard shortcuts, thought i'd clicked into the search box, hit the 's' key and managed to stop the current track playing and jump it straight back to the cue point... a bit of drumming on the 's' button and beatjumping 128 beats into the song and i was back in business.

new beatjump functionality = drool.

i'm sad that i can't do my fake beatjuggle with left/right trackpad buttons on my laptop anymore though.

ok - i am prepared to be flamed, i haven't read the manual fully yet, but the new effects????
Whats with the single parameter for each effect? I don't get it.

Sure i will look into it when i have time, just thought I would buy the upgrade mid week whislt I remembered....this weekend i will give it a beating and work thru it all

single parameter is if the fx bank is in chained mode. if you want to control all parameters, you can put it in advanced mode.

i use one bank chained and one advanced and now that each deck has it's own individual hp/lp filter knob it's fine.. i used to sit a xone:92 filter on each deck before.

Dante

and fuck my novation nocturn is useful now... left side controls fx1, right side controls fx2, so much fun fucking up sounds royally with the chained fx bank... just spent 15 minutes mixing tracks while bouncing a loop of rejected - cliche through a filter, flanger pulse and lofi.. damn it makes some fantastic squelchy percussive sounds to build tension.

this is great.

it used to be around $600-700, before they jacked it up on the pre-text of lower AUS dollar. regardless of old or new stock.

If you're a full time student buy the EDU version. Anyone who stocks Traktor should be able to order it from NI. That is of course assuming they still do the EDU version...

certainly am.. Downloaded it within a day of its release - gets a good rinsing around town 4 nights a week..

first thing I did was to assign all my shortcuts, and created 3 different pages that I togle between when I'm playing (1 for straight up mixing, with a simplified deck setup / one page with all effects and extras / 1 page just for browsing my collection).

getting heavy into the effects.. looking at getting one of these:

I was reading about this last night with Nic Fanciulli in the Dec edition of iDJ (you guys are gunna have to wait a few months) and it looks like this is gunna be the new flagship Digital setup. Its alot more dj orientated rather than previously being more producer based. You can bank the effects, and there are now 20 effects to use. The inside the box syncing looks cool and it now slaves to the master track automatically. Im thinking this may be worth a look finally.

So I had my first Traktor pro software failure this weekend..

Been using it professionally since it first was released, and haven't really had any problems.. untill this one..

Had the whole program shut down on me - Using a macbook, and it came up with the infamous "software has quit unexpectantly" error..

Luckily it was still fairly early in the night, and there wasn't too many people in the venue yet.. Had about 30 seconds of silence while I re-opened the program again and got it going..

Apart from that - The only other issue I have come across is that occassionally when I start Traktor Pro, none of my keyboard shortcuts will work at all, and I have to re-open the program again - Anyone else had this happen?

Still love it though - Beats the pants off serato!

^NO backup REAL vinyl or a CD to play in the meanwhile? :-O
This is what scares me a little about the idea of going to digital. :meh:

i dunno if you can do it with TS but i know a couple of the serato guy's rip the timecode and re-burn onto a cd-r with a couple of tracks following the timecode just in case it fucks out and it works well.

obviously this helps cd dj's only but then again if ya playing vinyl you should be taking several records with you anyway.

I always carry a CD booklet with me - For exactly these kinds of situations..

But I thought, It would be just as quick for me to re-boot the program again, as it would to grab (and cue up) a CD from my bag..

It was still early, and no one there seemed too fussed about the sudden silence.. If the crash had occured later in the night then it could have been much more problematic..

Still not sure what caused the program crash in the first place - But it didn't happen again.. The whole ordeal was about as inconvenient as someone knocking the tone arm off the record, or kicking out the power cord - You kind of deal with it as quickly as you can and move on..

I was much more concerned with why it happened, rather than the effect on the people in the venue.. After all, I ran traktor Scratch on the same laptop for most of the year with absolutely no crashes or problems at all..
I guess it was a not so subtle reminder that Traktor Pro is still in a testing stage. It's not completely problem free yet. No big deal - You have to expect that with version 1 of new software. Looking forward to the first update..

traktor scratch is the hot ass blonde bimbo girlfriend with mad jugs. she's hot as shit and looks good on paper, but she's always late and while she does rim you, sometimes she just stops blowing you halfway thru. which is annoying.

serato is the plain housewife. your dinner is always on time and she fucks like a thoroughbread on demand. not to mention she ALWAYS SWALLOWS.

thats DVS in a nutshell.

frenzie - get a novation nocturn, it's SMASHING for fx control. just perfect.

Picked one up today from DJ Warehouse..
at this stage i'm going to stay almost perfect - but not without its fair share of hassles..

Took me a little while to learn how to set up the midi map. The instructions don't really explain this very well at all - Headed over to the native instruments forum and had a look around. Seems that there are a number of mac users that are having hassles with their nocturns..

I'm using a macbook, but finally did manage to get it all up and running, although at this stage I have only created a page for my effects - At a later stage I will create another page on the nocturn to be used as a mixer..

speed dial looks kinda useless - I'm trying to minimalise my use of the mouse on my laptop, and do everything with a controller or hotkeys..

Read a number of nocturn users complaining that after a period of time (1 hour or so) it starts to mess up the midi map - This is definately not something I can afford to have happen in a professional environment. Anyone experienced tis at all? I'm yet to have used mine for any sustantial period of time..

Also can't seem to sync the button lights with the screen buttons. ie.. have a light turn on when a button is pressed. The button lights just seem to be constantly on - kind of a problem, as I was hoping to just be able to glance at the nocturn to see if an effect was in use, rather than looking at the monitor..

Will play around with it more tomorrow..
