Adelaide doesn't really have any live acts (apart from DJs) and I was wondering where people should send album demos etc to be able to get known and hopefully get gigs.

The style is Hard Trance and NRG although we occaisionally delve into other style if so inspired.

Any ideas??

Ok, a real answer now...

Get your shit sorted into a good mix - let friends listen to it, get feedback on what tracks would sound better on a cd - the cd doesnt need to be too long (for a demo) like 40 minutes is fine - most people in the industry are only going to listen to the first three tracks (if you're lucky) so put your best ones first...

Then make a shitload of copies (like a good 150) and hand them around to people - promoters, DJs, various record labels etc etc etc along with a short bio and contact details...

the idea is to get your tunes out to the punters - if they're liking what you're doing its easier to drop on on the DJs or the promoters...

send a few out to record labels, etc...

also if you're interested, send one to me and i will ensure it gets a full review and critique right here on inthemix

PM me or email phunkdust@inthemix.com.au

(that goes for anyone else too, send in your demo cds and we'll review them on ITM - free exposure!)

heya

one of my bandmates from superfluid is also in the live act Nil Vs Miss Tracy which is signed to Central Station Records and Tek in the uk (run by John Truelove)

apart from selling out every run of 12" theyve ever made theyve been in the top 10 hard haouse charts with every release

swing us a demo and i'll make sure you get some feedback

i hope listing all that crap above didnt sound pretentious, its just that people dont realise how well regarded australian hard house/hard trance acts are in the UK at the moment.

one of Nil Vs Miss Tracy's recent releases went straight into Nick Sentiences crate along with Judge Jules and countless others

all this from a humble and funny brisbane local

good luck and push on because geography should never limit music

Yeah dudes......maybe put a cd in the mail to me too. I would love to hear it and if I like it I will play it to every damn promoter i meet as well as my friends and associates who work in the industry.

It takes TIME, but you have to be persistent and hopeful. Your intent has a lot to do with it too.

Maybe try MP3.com.au too. Can be good for judging feedback/exposure etc, but don't put too much importance on the rankings they are not the true indicator (so many people rig there own rankings). Also don't put full-versions up there or the really good stuff you have coz it invariably gets ripped off. Just give people a taste.

(now I think of it if you are serious maybe MP3.com.au isn't the best way). speaking from experience.

But.....GOOD LUCK !!:)

I think you'd be suprised!, there are a heap of producers/live performers in Adelaide, although more so in the techno, experimental electronica, psy-trance, and drum'n'bass scenes.

If you're really confident in your music, and ready to play live, then the best way is to make up tapes or CD's (CD's are more common these days) of your music, and of a live set. Then make lots of copies and hand them to the DJ's/Promotors at/of the clubs/parties that play the same type of music you're into. For Hard Dance/Trance/NRG/Hard House in Adelaide, that would probably mean making contact with someone from www.system6.doof.org

You should also join the Adrave list, and ask for advice and contacts on there as well www.adrave.doof.org

That's the way I started, just handing tapes to DJ's/Promotors when I was out clubbing, back in the early 90's.
